Chapter 161: Devil Gatekeeper

Leo continued through the devil’s realm and collected twelve more Demon Knights, which excited him. ’They were easy to defeat, but according to Abaddon, the remaining six enemies would be stronger,’ he thought.

Not long after his last battle, he stepped into a colossal chamber that stretched for miles, its sheer scale enough to pique his interest. However, it was the three powerful auras lingering in the distance that truly seized his attention.

Before Leo could react, something hurtled toward him with deadly speed. A low chuckle escaped his lips just as a Demon Knight materialized before him, its massive shield raised in an instant.

The impact sent a thunderous clang echoing through the chamber. The force drove the knight back several steps. Yet, despite the sheer power behind the attack, the shield held firm.

Following that, Leo spotted three of the remaining Devils he was collecting like Pokemon, which made his smile widen in excitement. Moments later, the enemies charged forward, causing him to send Abaddon, Dagon, and Brutus to fight them.

The three knights surged forward, clashing with their counterparts in a whirlwind of steel and magic. At first, they struggled against the overwhelming skill of their foes, but then the tide shifted.

Leo’s mana surged through their bodies, flowing from the realm where they rested and waited for their orders, enhancing their strength, speed, and reflexes. His knights moved with newfound power, their strikes becoming sharper, their defenses unbreakable.

Within moments, their enemies faltered, immobilized by the overwhelming force pressing down on them. He strode forward, a cocky smile tugging at his lips as he loomed over the defeated warriors.

His gaze flickered across the fallen warriors before settling on one in particular, a woman with striking blood-red hair and piercing blue eyes. But what truly caught his attention was her skin, an unusual shade of blue.

Leo shook his head and gave the trio the same offer, which they rejected. This made him laugh as he summoned the fourteen knights he had captured so far before speaking to the injured devils.

’’Look, I’ve captured most of you and they are happy in my service,’’ he said while motioning for Abaddon.

The Black Knight stepped forward, dropping to one knee with unwavering conviction. His voice rang out, filled with both pride and reverence. ’’We are stronger now than ever before. Our new lord is a powerful being who will stand at the very top.’’

When the three devils heard the knight’s declaration, they hesitated, their expressions wavering between doubt and intrigue. But the undeniable power radiating from Leo and his forces left little room for argument. After a tense pause, they finally gave in, nodding in agreement.

Leo’s grin widened as they pledged themselves to him, their forms fading into the Knight Realm to join the others. With his ranks growing ever stronger, he wasted no time and pressed forward.

After that, Leo carved his way through every devil army in his path, leaving nothing but destruction in his wake. Each battle fueled his growth, his strength surging with every fallen foe.

The rush of power coursing through him was undeniable. As he traveled, a thought crossed his mind. ’Time to see just how much stronger I’ve become.’

’Interesting,’ he mused with a smirk. ’Let’s spend my Charm Points on the status to boost my power.’

Following that, Leo spent the points and felt his body change within seconds as his muscles bulged and his mana went crazy. He gritted his teeth as the pain racked his body, causing him to drop to his knees.

When the Demon Knights saw this, they rushed out of the shadows and surrounded him as more monsters tried to attack him. Leo whimpered as the burning feeling calmed down before checking his new status.

Leo shook his head, a smirk tugging at his lips as he took in the battlefield while thinking. ’Looks like that was an enormous boost. Let’s see how the powerful devils hold up against my new power.’

After that, he watched the knights clash with a relentless swarm of monsters, steel meeting fang and claw in a brutal struggle. But he was far from concerned. This was the perfect opportunity to unleash his power.

With a flick of his wrist, thousands of blazing fireballs materialized around him, their blue flames roaring hungrily as the spells grew stronger. ’Let’s see if the horde can handle this,’ Leo mused with a smile.

Then, with a mere thought, he sent them hurtling toward the enemy. The sky ignited as the fiery storm crashed down, incinerating the monstrous horde in an instant. Screeches of agony filled the air as the creatures were reduced to nothing but ash.

His soldiers stood frozen, eyes wide with both awe and fear. The unnatural blue flames devoured everything in their path, leaving no trace of the enemy behind. Then Leo’s gaze snapped forward.

’’There you are,’’ he muttered.

A towering devil stood at the edge of the battlefield, his crimson eyes locked onto him. But unlike before, there was no arrogance in its gaze. Only sheer, unfiltered terror. Which made him laugh.

Leo rolled his shoulders, a confident smirk playing on his lips as he advanced. His knights followed in his wake, their blades flashing as they cut down any monster that dared to stand in their way.

He watched as the creatures fell effortlessly, their deaths only adding to the growing fear in the devil’s eyes. The towering fiend took a shaky step back, dread settling deep in his bones. But it was too late.

In the blink of an eye, Leo disappeared, a streak of motion too fast to track. The devil barely had time to register the shift before a presence loomed behind him. A shiver crept down the enemy’s spine as he leaned in, his voice a low, taunting whisper. ’’Looks like I caught you.’’

The enemy went to spin around but he react and hit it with a Supernova Punch that shattered its spine. A boom rang out as the devil was sent crashing across the ground until hitting the side of a mountain.

Leo’s smile grew wider as he dashed forward while casting hundreds of Thunderbolts and sent them soaring toward the enemy, who was climbing out of the crater only to get hit by the spells.

He watched the devil burn to ash as Abaddon appeared beside him. ’’My Lord. Aren’t you capturing anymore?’’

’’No. You twenty are enough,’’ Leo answered with a chuckle. ’’You knights are growing stronger by the hour.’’

He pressed on, undeterred, until a powerful aura crashed down upon him. The sheer force of it made him halt mid-step, yet instead of fear, his grin only widened. His eyes locked onto a massive castle looming in the distance, its dark spires piercing the sky.

’’Is that the Devil King’s domain?’’ he muttered, excitement lacing his words.

’No my lord,’ Dagon answered from the shadow. ’This is the Devil Gatekeeper and the one who guards the way to the palace. He’s a powerful enemy, but you’re stronger.’

Leo grinned when hearing this and started walking toward it. Moments later, a giant devil crashed down in front of him and spoke in a curious voice. ’’What sort of being are you, Demon King? You’re no longer human, it seems.’’

The sudden interest shocked him, but Abaddon commented as the Demon Knight appeared beside him. ’’My lord, it seems we can sway the Gatekeeper to join us,’’ Abaddon commented.

’’Yes, that’s a good idea,’’ he replied before pointing at the being. ’’Do you want to serve me? You’ll grow even stronger.’’

When the Gatekeeper heard this, it chuckled while rubbing its chin. ’’It would be good to explore the outside world. I haven’t read a book in many moons.’’

Leo shook his head as the giant devil continued. ’’I agree. I’ll join you, Demon King. It’s better than becoming fodder for the foolish ruler we have down here.’’

Following that, he absorbed the giant devil and felt his shadow becoming fuller, which made him think. ’Does it have a limit? Maybe I can test it on other beings when coming across them?’

He shook his head and summoned the Gatekeeper, who appeared beside him while holding a sword and shield. When Leo saw this, he named the creature. ’’Your name will be Baal. You’re stronger than Abaddon, so you’ll commander the Demon Knights.’’
