Chapter 114: Got You Motherfuckers

Leo woke up the following morning as the wind whistled outside the tent. He sat up and shook his head while climbing out of the tent as he noticed the barrier still holding back the storm.

’I can feel the mana draining, yet it seems my body is drawing in more than I’m using,’ he mused, his gaze fixed on the swaying trees that danced in the gentle breeze.

Following that, he scanned the camp only to see the adventurers training while the other guards sat around chatting. Leo noticed the merchants were arguing about something as the green-haired young woman was watching him.

He winked at her before pulling out a Griffin Thigh Feast and sat down while eating as his stomach rumbled. The weather was booming overhead as a rainstorm lashed against his barrier.

While sitting there, a loud screech echoed across the landscape. This made the guards and adventurers jump up in panic, but Leo kept eating his Griffin meat, which was delicious. He stood up as a massive bird passed over.

As he watched the sky, the green-haired young woman appeared beside him. She revealed in a sweet voice, ’’That’s a famous Northern Roc, a friendly Titan, but can become enraged if attacked.’’

Leo glanced to his right and noticed the young woman looked excited, causing him to question with a curious expression, ’’You like monsters?’’

She nodded with a big smile while pulling out a book before speaking. ’’Yes. I’ve been studying them since I was a little girl, but Father thinks it’s useless.’’

’’Interesting,’’ he muttered. ’’Can you show me some creatures we’ll encounter on the way to the fortress?’’

When the young woman heard this, her amber eyes gleamed with excitement as she introduced herself. ’’I’m Mariana Holgate, third daughter of the Holgate Merchant Family.’’

’’I’m Leo Anderson,’’ he replied as the duo sat down.

Mariana pulled out a book and started speaking in a an enchanting voice. ’’Do you remember when my father mentioned the Dark Ones?’’

Leo nodded as she continued, ’’They were once humans who fell to a forgotten Dark God many centuries ago. Legends tell of a forgotten Dark God turning them into white-skinned creatures that move on all fours like cave spiders after starving in the winter.’’

The green-haired beauty quickly flicked through the pages until coming to the monster she described, which reminded him of the Wendigos back on Earth. ’Interesting. I can’t wait to fight these things.’

’’You see, they kidnap travelers and kill others before dragging them back to their den,’’ Mariana revealed. ’’They turn the survivors into more Dark Ones which have been spreading for many years now.’’

Leo looked curious and questioned, ’’Why hasn’t the empire dealt with them? Wouldn’t they cause chaos?’’

She nodded in understanding before answering, ’’Impossibles, the creatures infest every part of Duskwood. They have become a part of life now. It’s one reason merchants hire so many guards and adventurers.’’

Following that, Mariana turned the pages to another creature that looked like a lion but had dark brown fur and red eyes, the young woman turned to him with glowing amber eyes as she spoke, ’’This is a Grassland Lion, they are deadly monsters that love to set traps along the trading road.’’

Leo noticed the creature was twice the size of the ones back on Earth and looked evil. She showed him dozens of monsters that interested him as he learned how to fight or capture them.

’’You know I can capture monsters?’’ he revealed with a knowing smirk. ’’I’ve got some now, but they’re growing, so I don’t use them in fights.’’

When Mariana heard his words, her eyes widened in shock before asking in an excited voice, ’’Can I see them?’’

The impact of several projectiles on the shield interrupted Leo before he could answer, sending a sharp reverberation through the air. He leaped to his feet, concern etched across his face, and spotted a group of humans advancing toward the camp.

Mariana scowled, her voice low and laced with disdain as she muttered, ’’Bandits.’’

Leo’s excitement flared at her words, and without hesitation, he dashed toward the approaching attackers. In a flash, he materialized in front of the bandit leader, leaving the man stunned and momentarily frozen in shock.

’Got you motherfuckers!’ he thought before attacking.

The leader’s eyes widened in disbelief, but before he could react, Leo’s fist slammed into his chest with unrelenting force. A loud boom rang out as the man was sent crashing across the ground until hitting a tree.

When the remaining bandits saw this, they became enraged and tried to attack him. Leo’s smile grew wilder as he started using California Smash on them. Shockwaves took out dozens thanks to the force and his strength.

Leo’s barrage of punches resounded through the air like thunderclaps, each strike devastatingly precise and overwhelming. The attackers were reduced to nothing more than crimson mist under the sheer force of his power, leaving no chance for retaliation.

Mariana and the others in the camp watched in stunned silence, their expressions changed to astonishment. Relief washed over them. They had been spared what seemed like an unwinnable battle, all thanks to his overwhelming strength.

By the time Leo was done with the bandits, the last one dropped to the ground, leaving the surroundings silent. He returned to the camp where they cheered for him, and Mariana was staring at him with a big smile.

When he slumped down, a notification popped up, which surprised him the system was enjoying itself.

’Interesting, having a knowledgeable woman on my side would be good,’ Leo thought before taking out a bracelet.

He extended the item toward Mariana, his tone firm yet reassuring as he explained, ’’This is for you, Mari. Use it only if you’re in danger, and it will teleport you directly to my Monster Domain.’’

The green-haired girl’s eyes sparkled with delight as she saw the gift. Accepting it with a warm smile, she whispered, ’’Thank you, Hero. I’ve never received a gift from anyone outside my family before.’’

Leo waved her away while speaking. ’’Don’t worry about it. You deserve it, Mari. You’re teaching me about all the monsters I’d be fighting on our journey.’’

She beamed before asking with an excited expression, ’’Do you want to learn more? There are many monsters left that we could meet on the road.’’

He nodded as the girl started talking while showing him pictures of all kinds of creatures, from flying ones to ones that attack from below. As Leo was listening, Richard and Mathias approached them.

’’Looks like you two are getting along well,’’ the older man commented with a knowing smile.

Leo ignored it and replied while glancing at the two men, ’’Mariana here is teaching me about all the monsters that roam northern Duskwood. I find it interesting.’’

He studied Richard, noting the subtle twitch in his face as he forced a fake smile and continued speaking. The green-haired girl beside him noticeably stiffened at the man’s demeanor.

With a dismissive wave, Richard finally said, ’’Yes, it is. I’ll leave you two alone. We will be moving out in a day or two, daughter, so to enjoy the time.’’

As Richard walked away, Leo’s gaze lingered on him for a moment before turning to Mariana. Breaking the silence, he asked, ’’Don’t you like your father?’’

Mariana looked at him, her expression briefly lighting up with a glimmer of hope before fading. She shook her head and replied, her voice tinged with bitterness, ’’He thinks I’m useless compared to my siblings. The only reason I’m here is to be married off to a count’s second son so my father can secure the mining rights on his land.’’

When Leo heard this, he nodded in understanding, ’’I assume you don’t want to marry some noble just to waste away producing children and running a farm.’’

The girl started giggling as she agreed. ’’You’re right, hero. I’d like to explore the world while learning about all kinds of different monsters.’’

Following that, he took out a few drinks and offered her one with a charming smile. ’’Try some of this, it’s some of the best ale in Duskwood.’’

Mariana took the offering with a giggle. ’’I don’t drink ale much, but I’ll try it if you promise to look after me?’’ she explained.

Leo waved her away and pointed at the approaching Viora, ’’Ask Miss Merchant who ended up in her comfortable bed.’’

The girl turned around and her smile grew as she spotted the orange-haired woman. ’’Vi! Will you join us?’’

’’That’s the plan,’’ she answered while sitting down on the other side of him.

Viora looked at him before speaking. ’’Thank you for helping me last night, Leo. I had a good sleep and feel much better.’’

’’You’re welcome, it’s the least I can do for a business partner,’’ he answered while downing some Griffins Talon Ale which he enjoyed.
