"Are you a genetic warrior?"

"No."

"So you're purely human?"

"Obviously."

Dean eliminated every living creature within his sight while answering Little Mike's questions. With Little Mike's help, he was quickly approaching the most central area of this place.

The only thing that troubled Dean was Little Mike's newfound intense interest in him, sparked by witnessing his inhuman combat abilities. Little Mike didn't just bombard him with endless questions; he even invited Dean to his house to see his pet mice.

HEH. To think such a young kid would say this to a grown man he barely knew. TSK, researchers are truly freaks!

With more than a dozen long and short guns strapped to his waist, along with seven or eight grenades, Dean fought his way from Lab 1 to Lab 13. During this time, he even encountered the masked woman from the cruise ship—the one responsible for the case. He recognized her instantly and gave her an extra bullet for good measure.

By the time he reached the core area Little Mike had mentioned, Dean was left with only two pistols.

Little Mike was still rattling on incessantly through the communicator.

Dean reckoned Little Mike had spoken more today than in his entire life. He tapped the communicator, reminding, "I'm about to enter the core area. It seems to be out of your control here. Can you see what's inside?"

"There are thirteen fully-armed soldiers right at the door, waiting for you to open the electronic gate. Additionally, Dr. Sean, the person in charge here, and his most elite group are all present.

"Also, let me remind you of three more things."

"Go on."

Little Mike took a couple of deep breaths, sounding tired. "First, Dr. Sean has a box with him that should contain something very important. If possible, I need its contents."

Dean shrugged. "That was already part of our agreement. No problem there."

"Second, this base's self-destruct sequence has been activated. There's at most one hour before it explodes. The entire island will collapse, burying everything the research base doesn't want exposed."

Dean frowned. "Why didn't you tell me this before?"

No wonder he'd felt increasingly uneasy as he got closer to the island. So that was the reason. As for why his danger sense hadn't triggered, it was probably because the explosion was still some time away. But with an explosion of this magnitude, by the time he sensed it, it would undoubtedly be too late to run. That was a close call!

Faced with Dean's annoyed questioning, Little Mike replied matter-of-factly, "We're just temporary allies. I provide help, and you bring out what I need. I was planning to see if you'd break our agreement when you left, and then decide whether to tell you about this. But things are different now. I'm very interested in your body. Zero, I don't want you to die before I can acquire a sample of your tissue!"

Dean: ".."

Who openly talks about wanting to study someone's body to their face like that? So Little Mike—blunt to the point of leaving one speechless.

"There's still one more thing, isn't there?" Dean still needed Little Mike's assistance, so he responded irritably.

"Many people with heavy weaponry are guarding the base entrance. The leader is Amon. He's an FBI director and seems to have an additional identity with a very high security clearance. There wasn't enough time, so I couldn't decrypt more information. But if they capture you, it won't end well.

"Zero, you still have one way out. Dr. Sean, behind the electronic gate, hasn't left, but he's prepared to. It's highly likely he knows another escape route. After multiple calculations, this is one of only two chances you have to survive the siege and the self-destruct sequence.

"Of course, if you're willing to come to my place after you escape and cooperate with some minor experiments, I can offer you a second escape route. You might want to consider it if your interrogation or assault attempt fails."

Interrogation fails? Dean glanced at his Interrogation skill, which had reached L3, and scoffed.

However, if what Little Mike said was true, the situation behind the door was indeed troublesome. The corridor he was in was long and deep. Once the electronic gate opened, a barrage of bullets would engulf him, leaving nowhere to hide.

Dean had originally planned to toss seven or eight grenades the moment the door opened, annihilating everyone inside. Then, he'd use Subspace to dig underground and escape any potential encirclement outside the base. But that plan was no longer suitable. With only an hour, it would be very difficult to dig his way off the island.

Still, he had another way to solve this problem.

With two quick shots, Dean blew out the monitors in the corridor. He then dragged a corpse to the passage entrance and approached the electronic gate, preparing to open the heavy door in the most straightforward way.

Behind the electronic door, Dr. Sean and a group of researchers and guards, looking like startled birds, stared at the now-darkened monitor screens. They exchanged glances, each seeing the unease reflected on the others' faces.

An elderly researcher swallowed nervously and whispered, "That monster... he can't open this door, can he?"

"FK! How can such a terrifying creature exist in reality?!" another old man, with white hair and glasses, trembled as he spoke. "Terrifying marksmanship, physique, and combat skills... and it seems to possess perfect intelligence too! Compared to it, our decades of research on test subjects are utter crap!"
