Chapter 28: Chapter 28 What’s the Relationship

Even George River was shocked at this.

Hannah was momentarily stunned, but quickly regained her composure. While George was still dazed, she took the opportunity to shrug off his hand and tried to leave.

But George persisted, detaining her to inquire further. But as the words reached his lips and he saw her reddened eyes, he softened, "What’s your relationship with Arnold Simmons?"

"What relationship?" Hannah replied with a bitter smile. "George, do you see me, Hannah Winter, as a cuscuta chinensis, a woman who relies on men for survival?"

Her voice was gentle, yet her words were forceful, leaving a bad taste in George’s mouth.

He wanted to say that he never thought of her like that, but his pride held him back and he remained silent.

Seeing that he said nothing, Hannah gave in to despair. "Yes, it was Arnold Simmons who came to see me. What’s our relationship? I was able to be with you, George River, for two years; I could do the same with other men."

With that, Hannah forcefully freed herself from George’s hand and walked away.

George was still immersed in Hannah’s previous words, finding himself unable to react.

What did she mean by ’other men could do’?

What did she mean by ’other men could do’?!

Didn’t Hannah Winter say she would only love him in this life? Why could other men do it now?

Even though no intimate relationship had developed between him and Hannah during the two years of their contract, upon hearing her hint at a potential relationship between her and Arnold, he couldn’t help but let his rage burn.

"Hannah Winter!" The man shouted in anger, but Hannah had already departed through the back door.

With no means to vent his anger, George felt utterly defeated.

Leaning against the wall, head bowed, he was unable to utter a word.

The image that kept haunting him was of her fair face, with tears like pear blossoms in the rain.

It seemed fragile as a flower in a rainy night, as if a slight gust of wind could break her in two. It was a sight he found hard to forget.

The parking garage was unusually quiet at night, the faintest sound of breathing seemed conspicuous. The lighting was particularly bright, with the occasional breeze, injecting a sense of chill into the air.

It was as though the girl’s sobs and accusations were echoing in his ears.

For the last two years, Hannah Winter had never caused him such distress.

In his eyes, Hannah Winter was only a substitute, a mere antidote to soothe the pain and regret in his heart.

She wasn’t indispensable. He wouldn’t care if she left or was cast away.

But why does his breath feel so suffocating now?

It was like running a kilometer without a break, suffering from a shortness of breath but not daring to stop. Stopping would spread the agony throughout his body, making breathing impossible. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Tap tap tap—

The sound of high heels approaching from a distance echoed through the garage, clear as a bell, yet seemingly from half a world away.

It was as if George had suddenly remembered something. He lifted his head abruptly, the words on the tip of his tongue swallowed back down upon seeing her face.

All he managed to say was, "Tiffany, what brings you here?"

Tiffany Lynch came to his side with a kind and tranquil smile, speaking softly, "I’ve been looking for you. I asked a waiter who told me you were here, so I came to find you."

George rubbed his temples tiredly, "I’m sorry, I forgot to tell you. By the way, is the banquet upstairs over?"
