No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1735: Arnold Simmons Side Story (101)
"I just went to see him and we chatted for so long that I lost track of time."
Tessa Thompson nodded, then suddenly noticed something, "Hannah, where’s your backpack?"
It was only then that Hannah realized she had run off in such a hurry that she’d left her backpack with Arnold Simmons.
All she could say was: "I asked a friend to grab it for me."
Tessa Thompson didn’t doubt her explanation at all and continued gabbing about the games they’d just played, noting that a round of Truth or Dare had dug up quite a bit of class gossip.
Outside the group, a few boys who had been scolded for almost a minute were finally allowed to rejoin the group.
Once everyone was accounted for, the bus took the students back to the gate of the school.
At this time, the first and second years were still in class.
Standing on the empty space next to the teaching building, the grade director spoke from the steps for a while before announcing school was out.
There were no evening self-study sessions tonight, and with the weekend at the month’s end coming up, everyone was as excited as if they’d been given a long holiday.
Oscar Evans was shouting from the back, "Weekend or not, don’t forget to do your homework, and remember to hand in your diary entry about today’s park visit, eight hundred words—"
Before he could finish, the students had already sprinted out of the school gates, waving back without turning their heads, "Got it, we’ll do it, goodbye teacher."
Watching the figures disappearing into the distance, Oscar Evans shook his head helplessly, "These kids..."
Hannah accompanied Tessa Thompson back to the classroom to grab some homework before leaving the school gates again.
The elementary school across the street had just let out, making the roads a bit crowded, with stores selling snacks and stationery especially packed.
As soon as they reached the Willow Lane stretch of the road, the crowds thinned a bit.
Arnold Simmons was waiting for her at the intersection, holding her sky-blue backpack. The sunlight cast a faint golden halo around him, and as he looked up slightly, his deep black eyes peeked out from under the brim of his hat.
"Let’s go, I’ll walk you home."
He slung the backpack over his shoulder as if it was the most natural thing to do.
Hannah obediently followed by his side.
The sunlight filtered through a thin haze, casting his shadow over her.
...
With the arrival of spring, the cold of winter had completely retreated, and the trees in the school that had been hung with nutrient bags for a semester finally sprouted new leaves. Though not as lush as the older trees, the fresh greenery was bursting with vitality.
After the park visit ended, the lively and relaxed atmosphere in the class was thoroughly subdued; the knowledge points that teachers could explain in class had become few, and most of the time was spent doing exercises and tests, then identifying problems from the mistakes made.
Teachers mostly sat outside the classroom, and students went to ask questions whenever they encountered problems.
Even the rare few minutes of rest during class breaks became a time to scramble for every second.
As soon as night self-study ended, Tessa Thompson came running back from the study hall, carrying her last weekly exam paper in hand, "Hannah, can you explain to me how this question is solved? I didn’t get it when I asked the teacher, and I didn’t dare to ask again."
Many students lined up every day to ask the teacher questions, and it wasn’t really good for one person to take up too much of the teacher’s time.
So mutual help among classmates became particularly important at such times.
Hannah took the paper from Tessa Thompson’s hand and began to calculate the problem on scratch paper with a pen.
She explained as concisely as possible, and if Tessa Thompson didn’t understand at first, she would explain again.
By the time the explanation was complete, the bell for class had rung.
Tessa Thompson asked about one more question from her seat.
