No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1729: Arnold Simmons Side Story (95)
Her body bristled, forbidding him to come any closer.
If Arnold Simmons weren’t involved, he could take this as a challenge, since things too easily obtained are indeed dull.
But if Arnold Simmons was involved...
"What do you think she would feel if I told her about your identity? A bastard who could only enter No.1 Middle School through back doors," said Jimmy Simmons, "do you think she would like you?"
Arnold Simmons lifted his head, looking at Jimmy Simmons with a hint of mockery.
Such a gaze was full of provocation, "Jimmy Simmons, you’re still so arrogantly insecure, and you just can’t stand to lose, as always."
As he spoke, a certain sharpness flashed through Jimmy Simmons’s eyes, his hand curling into a fist.
Swans on the artificial lake startled into flight, disturbing the peace of the water’s surface, creating ripples spreading from near to far, reaching the other side.
The wound on Jimmy Simmons’s body was still aching until today.
But that also made one thing clear to him, about Arnold Simmons’s feelings for Hannah...
It was laughable.
The bell rang for class, and as the corridor emptied of most students, the figure of Jimmy Simmons became even more prominent.
Hannah frowned slightly, reaching out to pull the curtain slightly, just enough to conceal her silhouette.
The proctor glanced up at the noise but said nothing.
With Hannah’s guaranteed admission, she had no need to take part in any mock exams.
But she still reviewed and took exams with her classmates as usual, her ranking stable within the top five last month.
Until the exam was over, the heavy rain outside had not stopped.
Hannah held an umbrella over Tessa Thompson to the bus stop, waiting to see her board the bus before waving goodbye.
The bus stop was crowded with students, all under their umbrellas, faces unseen to each other, eyes only capturing the disordered footsteps.
Hannah struggled to squeeze her way out from the bus station.
Behind the platform’s billboards, across a road, there was a frequent passage of electric and bicycles.
Just as she was about to step down, her backpack suddenly tightened.
Before she could react, Arnold Simmons had pulled her back up onto the platform.
"Watch out, there’s a car."
The young man’s deep voice came from above her head.
The warmth she felt on her back emanated from his chest.
Hannah heard the heartbeat amidst the noisy crowd, amidst the fine rain, and in between the alternating lights and shadows, uncertain whether it was his or her own.
"Arnold Simmons?"
She tried to call out in a soft voice.
The young man shielded her with one hand while gently pushing her umbrella forward with the other to cover her again, "Yes, it’s me."
Somehow, his simple affirmation brought peace to Hannah’s heart.
Those few brief seconds felt like an eternity.
Hannah even found herself able to listen to nearby students chatting, each word clearly reaching her ears, but when she tried to recall them, she could only remember the warm temperature of the young man’s body and his strong heartbeat behind her.
"It’s okay now."
What’s okay?
Before she could come back to her senses, Arnold Simmons had already pulled her across the street. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
The umbrella in Hannah’s hand was too small for Arnold Simmons; almost his entire body was exposed to the rain, yet he carefully shielded the person in his arms from getting wet.
The two of them stood very close, so close that Hannah could see his excessively handsome face by simply looking up, his fine lashes resting above a pair of pitch-black eyes.
The color of his eyes was like a deep, ink-blue sea beneath the night sky.
In the moment when the sea churned, the sound of the heartbeat also became clear.
