No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1655 Arnold Simmons Extra (21)
As if sensing something, Arnold Simmons lifted his head. The distance made the figure waving at him appear blurry, but the eyes undoubtedly brimmed with joy.
Silly yet endearing.
Thinking this, Arnold Simmons curved his lips into a smile again.
...
By the time he left the library, it was already noon. The sunlight outside was dazzling, and the ground was scorching hot. Although the temperature wasn’t very high, the weather still made people feel uncomfortably hot.
Tessa Thompson suggested going to a nearby mall to stroll around, a rare outing today that also offered a chance to enjoy some cool air.
The group agreed without much thought.
Although high school had just started, the academic workload was already heavy. Sometimes, they couldn’t finish a day’s homework in a whole evening study session, and they had to stay up late at home to catch up.
However, the learning atmosphere in their school was relatively relaxed; at least they could squeeze some time during weekends to go out.
Arnold spent the afternoon in the internet cafe until it was dark. Nearby were a few friends sitting at connected tables, and Francis Evans brought him dinner.
The dinner was just fast food from across the street from the internet cafe, typical home cooking that wasn’t delicious but was affordably priced.
Francis set down the food and glanced at Arnold’s computer screen. His eyes a bit sore, he shifted his gaze before noticing the books set aside, "Arnold, what are these books, did you borrow them from the library?"
He casually flipped through them, but found the text inside even harder to read than the computer screen, making his head ache with its tadpole-like characters.
Arnold glanced at him, took the books and placed them aside, "How much was dinner? I’ll transfer the money to you."
Francis’s attention was diverted. He didn’t dwell on the books and waved his hand, saying, "It wasn’t much, we’ve been friends for so many years..."
He hadn’t finished speaking when his phone pinged with a transfer alert.
Francis shrugged helplessly, "Are you staying overnight here?"
"Not staying overnight." Arnold turned his chair to face the screen, his fingers expertly tapping on the keyboard, "Going back."
Francis thought involuntarily, "Is Jimmy causing trouble for you again?"
Ever since the Simmons Family sought out Arnold, it was as if they had pulled him from one hell into a deeper one.
Where demons roar, the sun never shines.
Especially Jimmy Simmons, who seemed like a madman soaked in dark waters, obsessively causing troubles, even resorting to using a knife on a few occasions. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Arnold’s expression remained unchanged, "I’m not going back to the Simmons Family."
"Then that is..." Francis understood something and didn’t ask further, only saying, "If there’s anything you need help with, just say it. We’re brothers after all."
Arnold responded with a sound and fell silent again.
The night was eerily quiet; rarely a pedestrian was seen on the streets. The dim yellow streetlights cast a lonely glow on the jagged paths, and in the corners, toppled garbage bins where rats scurried in search of food, fearlessly even when they heard footsteps.
They even boldly appeared in the middle of the road, crawling forward leisurely.
A bit further away, beyond a wall, the sound of motorcycles speeding on the street could be heard, accompanied by excited shouts.
The northern part of the city was the dirtiest and most chaotic area in all of Haicheng. Years ago, when there were plans for demolition and reconstruction, many opposed it, and the project ultimately fell through, leaving only a bunch of empty, dilapidated residential buildings. Sometimes, when it’s windy, the area would be enveloped in a haze of dust.
It was a world completely different from the city center.
The old streetlight at the corner of the alley flickered, and the light dimmed slightly again.
