No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1567: What to Say
Wayne Lane had started lecturing Hannah about these things while they were still on the road.
Hannah actually listened quietly, a rarity for her.
Even Wayne Lane himself felt it was a bit odd, "Don’t you have anything to say?"
"What would I say?" Hannah lowered her head to look at the path before her, hands behind her back, "You’ve said everything that needed to be said."
The sun had climbed to the center of the sky, with its light becoming piercing, and even the shadows cast by the leaves carried a scorching heat.
Wayne Lane glanced at Hannah’s profile before turning away, "I’m telling you this just in case."
"In case of what?" Hannah stopped walking.
Wayne Lane stopped with her.
They had just stopped under the shade of a tree.
On the small path, there were other travelers hastening to board the starship, both old and young, mostly families out on trips.
"If we accidentally get separated in Bruce, at least you should remain alert," said Wayne Lane.
Hannah looked at him, smiled, and asked, "Wayne Lane, do you really think of me as some pampered princess?"
Strictly speaking, she didn’t even qualify as a princess.
In the royal household, even the maids and guards would secretly call her "little bastard".
Even being the king’s own daughter could not change anything.
That man, who had taken all his mother’s affection, only saw her as an irremovable plaster, merely a sight that disgusted him.
There was self-mockery in Hannah’s eyes as she watched a joyous family laughing in the distance, finding the scene more glaring than the sunlight.
She lowered her head again, kicking away a stone with the tip of her foot. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
The next second, a bottle of water appeared in her line of sight.
It was Wayne Lane.
Hannah saw his hand holding the bottle of water, distinct tendons, with a small cut on his index finger as if it had just been scratched.
She only glanced at it for a moment, then accepted the bottle of water from Wayne Lane, saying, "Thank you."
This thank you was still a little awkward.
After all, they had quarreled yesterday about going out together for training.
But when Wayne Lane returned to the dormitory last night, he had let it go.
Actually, it wasn’t that he had any real issue with Hannah; it might indeed be as Professor Lawrence said, their personalities were too similar.
Hannah was someone who had rebellion etched into her bones, always acting with a sort of unruly flamboyance.
These traits were actually very much like Wayne Lane’s, but due to the different environments in which they grew up, Wayne Lane had hidden his nature deep down, showing only his indifference and adherence to rules.
But regardless, he was still three years older than her.
"It’s almost time to board," Wayne Lane checked the time.
He didn’t hurry Hannah, waiting for her to finish drinking the water before he took the bottle back.
They hadn’t brought much with them on this trip, most of their belongings were in Wayne Lane’s backpack.
"Let’s go," Hannah stepped out of the shade first.
Wayne Lane followed her steps, standing to her left.
He was much taller than her, just tall enough to block the glaring, dry sunlight.
Hannah didn’t notice this detail. She was looking at the family not far ahead, her eyebrows first furrowed, then relaxed, only to frown again quickly.
She was reminded of some memories and wasn’t in the best of moods.
For the rest of the way, neither of them spoke.
Not until they were boarding, when the ticket checker asked, "Are you a couple, or..."
Hannah answered first, her eyes curving into a smile, looking particularly docile.
