No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 153: Never Give Up
The next few words out of her mouth nearly shattered his feigned composure, as if someone unveiled the truth he least wanted to face deep within his heart.
Naturally, he was inclined to deny it, even thinking that Hannah Winter was nursing an infatuation, foolishly trying to win him back.
He looked at the person before him and suddenly scoffed, "You? Worthy of my affection?"
She was nothing more than a substitute.
He wanted to mock and ridicule her as he had done before, but the words were stuck in his throat.
That was because she was looking at him with a smile lingering at the corners of her lips. Even her eyes were crinkling with mirth, as if she had seen through his pathetic guise.
The thread of reason in his mind was utterly broken. Enraged, he tightened his grip on her wrist and emphasized, "Hannah Winter, I’ll never like you, never ever. Do you understand?"
Pathetic guise.
A mockery of self-deceit.
Hannah couldn’t free herself from his grip, and as she went along with it, her smile remained delicately beautiful. She gently touched his tie, her voice sweet and soft, like a lover’s whisper.
She asked, "If you don’t like me, why did you fight for me and even end up at the police station?"
He lowered his head and met her pair of eyes, brimming with laughter. Her clear eyes reflected his image, along with the rage and the evasion in his own eyes.
He was not evading her, but the fact she had just laid out.
His hand around Hannah’s wrist tightened, his face darkening.
After a long while, he abruptly released her wrist, his face expressionless, his eyes dark. "You must quit that show."
Hannah retorted, "Let me make this clear, I absolutely won’t quit."
George River looked at the person in front of him, scorn in his eyes.
He thought he had previously been too protective of Hannah Winter, giving her such foolish ideas. Without any backing, she dared to make a fool of herself in a talent show.
Was she too confident in her luck?
"Hannah Winter, do you really think you can make a debut? Without any resources in a talent show like this, do you even know what you will face?" He gritted his teeth as he spoke.
However, Hannah remained calm, instead looking at him strangely. "What does this have to do with you? Even if I were to face unspoken rules of the industry, it would be my own business."
George River sneered, clenching his fists, "Degrading yourself willingly."
"Yes, yes, I’m degrading myself willingly. Your Miss Lynch is pure and innocent, so Director River, could you please stop nagging in my ear?" Hannah covered her ears and turned her back to him.
Clearly, she was extremely annoyed by him.
It was rare for George River to see Hannah so lively in front of him. For a moment, he found it rather interesting.
He felt that Hannah was still holding a grudge about him abandoning her, acting out of spite, but deep down she still couldn’t let go of him.
Before leaving, he coldly dropped one last sentence, "Don’t come crying back to me. I won’t help you."
Having said that, he left.
Hannah turned around to watch his retreating figure, muttering to herself, "It’s not like I need your help, you better worry about how to..."
She spoke so quietly about what followed that even Golden Lotus didn’t quite catch it.
The live broadcasting room was pretty quiet at the time, with just one comment leisurely drifting across the screen.
—Is he really tormenting the hostess? Why do I feel like this jerk still has feelings for her?
