Chapter 96: Potatoes and.....

Coco reached the mountain almost immediately, jogging her way up through the uneven terrain with practiced ease and went to work after dropping her sling bag.

Coco kept the basket with her and knelt in the dirt, her hands digging carefully in the healthy and lush earth.

She has been working for almost three hours so her fingers were covered in grime with her shirt and hair slightly rumpled from her work.

The potato plants stood tall around her, their green leaves swaying gently in the breeze.

Coco’s expression was blank, but focused, her eyes fixed on the task at hand as she was careful with each potato, her hands gently plucking the tubers from the ground and placing them in a basket beside her.

The excited and happy woman moved through the potato field with a skip, her hands moving quickly and efficiently as she harvested the potatoes.

She would kneel down, her fingers reaching under the plants and carefully extracting the tubers from the ground.

The work was repetitive and mundane, but Coco moved with a steady rhythm, eager and daydreaming as the harvested potatoes quickly filled her basket. freewebnσvel.cѳm

Despite the monotony of the chore, she couldn’t help, but take pride in the work, her hands moving with precision and speed as she sang random tune under her breath from her previous world.

By the time she was done, she had filled the basket to the brim with potatoes.

"Are we bringing only potatoes back to the village?" Lala asked as she settled herself on top of the potato, her skirt protecting her from the dirt that was sticking on the surface of the tuber.

"It’s unfortunate, but yes, potatoes for now." Coco answered, standing up from the ground and picking up the fairy off the potatoes before placing the lid of the basket on top of it.

"Don’t you want to sneak a couple of fruits? I can grow something right now if you want." The fairy asked, letting Coco place her on top of her human friend’s head, "I don’t like that I can’t grow anything for you right now."

Coco hummed and secured the lid of the basket, "That’s true.. But Mrs. Tani and the villagers might start getting suspicious if we bought home fruits right now after harvesting a bunch the other day."

"Aww.. I guess you have a point.." The garden fairy said, puffing her cheeks out to express how sad she was.

Coco hoisted the basket up, gripping the handles tightly.

A smile played on Coco’s lips upon hearing Lala’s response as she shifted the basket to one side, lifting it off the ground and with a single puff of breath, she lifted the basket up onto her shoulder, the heavy weight balanced perfectly.

She then looped the straps over her shoulders, letting the basket hang down like a makeshift backpack.

She adjusted the basket until it sat snugly on her shoulder, the straps digging into her skin as she secured it in place, and despite the weight of the basket, Coco moved with ease.

"Let’s go back to the village now." Coco stated, her movements fast as she walked away from her crops, the basket balanced on her back like a backpack.

She picked up the sling bag and the unbreakable hoe on her way out of her little place beside the stream of river, humming her favorite song from one of the music artists from her original world.

"Kissy face, kissy face, sent to your—"

Rustle.

Rustle.

Rustle.

Coco’s head whipped up at the unexpected sound, her eyes scanning the sky.

"What was that?" The garden fairy took the words out of Coco’s mouth, the two of them seeing a massive form of something in the distance.

"Eek!" Lala shrieked loudly before Coco ducked just in time as a massive paw with outstretched claws cut through the sky like a missile, her eyes marveling at the sight of the tiger in flight.

Coco was taken by surprise when a winged tiger suddenly swooped down from the sky and flew over her head.

Her body reacted without hesitation, her legs pumping as she started to run, her legs moving as fast as possible to get away from the dangerous monstrous animal.

ROAAARRR!

"I think we’ll take home a potato and a tiger this time, Lala!" Coco exclaimed, an excited grin on her face.

Even though the speed of her movements managed to put a distance between her and the monster, Coco could still feel the wind created by the flying monster, the tiger’s tail curled between its legs, the stinger in its tail pointing towards Coco.

Coco was glad she noticed the tiger just in time and was thankful that her instincts kicked in, her body moving with lightning reflexes to avoid the claws of the beast.

If she didn’t, she would have come back to the village with an extra wound in her body.

Jacques was already worried because of the bleeding wound she received the feathers, what more would happen if she came back with another wound from a poison tiger’s claw?

She didn’t want to think of it so she just continued running, her hand gripping the hoe tightly.

Then, all of a sudden, Coco spun around, her movements surprisingly fast for someone carrying such a heavy basket of potatoes, taking Lala by surprise and making her scream.

"Coco!" Lala shrieked for the second time.

The basket on Coco’s back bounced with each step, the potatoes inside still secure within— even with the weight on her back, Coco was still nimble, her body moving with ease.

She grabbed the handle of the hoe tighter, the wood cool and solid beneath her touch.

Coco raised the tool high above her head and she lashed out— with a powerful swing, the flat end of the blade smacking down on the back of the tiger’s head squarely with a loud crack.

ROAAARRR!

The impact made the animal cry out in pain before it slumped on the ground.
