Chapter 255: A raven’s pair quest [12]

Alithe pointed in different directions as the two of them rode the vine, the thick tendril carrying them through back of the large houses.

They remained hidden from plain view, their presence obscured by the darkness and their careful maneuvering with the vine moving quickly, its smooth surface gliding through the air beneath them as it carried them onward.

Alithe would point to the right, and the vine would turn to the right, maneuvering through the darkness and avoiding the rabbits.

Then, after a good while, Alithe tapped Coco on the shoulder, and Coco immediately nodded in understanding before she tapped the vine beneath them, signaling for it to stop.

The vine obeyed her command, its movement coming to a halt, and the two of them were now stationary, suspended in the air a few feet above the ground.

Coco scanned the surroundings, her gaze fixed on the buildings and streets out of the alley they were in.

The town was mostly quiet, with only a few rabbits wandering around, their large forms casting long shadows in the darkness.

They appeared to be near the edge of the town, away from the center of the town where the rabbits were gathered.

It was difficult to tell exactly where they were, as the darkness of the night made it hard to see, but the position they were in allowed Coco to see the town, and she had a sense of the layout of the area now.

If she were to come back to this lair, she would be able to go in and go out undetected. freewёbnoνel-com

Now, the town was eerily quiet, the only sound the occasional rustle of leaves with no rabbits nowhere in sight, their presence completely gone.

Alithe guided her again.

He was focused, his gaze fixed on a particular spot in the distance and he pointed at it with a determined expression.

Coco nodded, signalling that they were ready to proceed as the vine obeyed, its form shifting once again, this time changing into a more straight shape, heading towards the direction Alithe pointed at.

They were nearing their destination, the vine carrying them swiftly and silently through the town.

With a raised hand after a good second, Alithe signaled for them to stop.

Once again, the vine obeyed, its form coming to a halt behind the smallest house in the town, but also the furthest away from the other residences.

Alithe looked around, his gaze intense and focused, as he seemed to be double-checking their location, then he nodded his head.

Coco and Alithe dismounted from the vine, their feet landing silently on the cobblestones below, the sole of their boots making no sound as they touched the ground.

The air was cool and silent, the only sound was the occasional rustle of leaves from the wall stone behind them, separating the town from the forest.

Coco took a moment to adjust her bearings, her gaze flicking around the surroundings, taking in the scene before her.

Alithe stood beside her, his expression tense, as if he knew they were close, he pointed at the small house in front of them, a silent signal that their destination was there.

Coco did not think twice to approach the small house, her footsteps light and stealthy, careful to not make a sound.

She reached the front door and examined it closely, her gaze sweeping over the surface, searching for any signs of life or movement, no sound came from the house, the silence inside undisturbed.

The house was silent, giving no indication that anyone was home and Coco’s hand reached out, her fingertips gently tracing the cool surface of the doorknob.

Coco looked at Alithe, her gaze questioning, silently asking if he was ready.

Alithe merely gave her a quick nod before Coco opened the door, making Alithe step forward, his foot crossing the threshold of the small house, the silence inside unbroken.

He paused once he was inside, his gaze sweeping across the room, taking in its interior.

The room was dimly lit by a few shafts of moonlight shining in through the windows, casting the room in a soft, silvery glow.

The furniture in the room was sparse, the majority of the floor space taken up by a giant nest of what looked like leaves and twigs.

Coco followed Alithe into the house, her movements just as quiet and stealthy as his.

She reached behind her and gently closed the door, the sound of the latch clicking into place sounding like a gunshot in the quiet house.

Coco looked around the room in the dim illumination of the moonlight, her gaze sweeping over the sparse furniture and the giant nest in the center of the room.

Alithe walked further into the room and he stayed close to the walls, avoiding the nest in the center of the room, the one source of loud noise that might alert the rabbits in the town square.

The floorboards creaked slightly under his weight, the sound soft and muffled, but still, he moved like a shadow, his eyes fixed on a corner of the room, something there having caught his interest.

Coco watched as Alithe moved towards the corner of the room, her eyes flitting between him and the corner, trying to adjust her eyesight.

When it did, her breath got caught in her throat, her hand shot out towards a nearby wall, and instantly, a thick vine sprouted from a crack in the wall, the vine snaked across the room, its swift movements like lightning.

It reached Alithe and wrapped itself around his waist, stopping him abruptly in his tracks.

Coco stared at the corner of the room with wide eyes.

There, curled up in a ball of fluff, was a much smaller rabbit.

The rabbit was cradling a dark skinned male, the man’s head nestled against the rabbit’s soft fur, its arm wrapped protectively around him.

The rabbit itself seemed harmless, its eyes fixed on them with an innocent gaze.

"That’s one of the offspring!" Lala gasped.
