Chapter 306: WADE DESPISED HER

Aristia wasn’t feeling sleepy, so she decided to look into her lesson books.

Millie lay asleep on the bed.

About two hours later, Aristia finally felt sleepy.

The mansion was very quiet now as all the mansion’s residents had all retired for the night.

She closed the book that was on the study table and got up, going to get on the bed. She glanced at the sleeping Millie for a second before lying on the bed.

Pulling the blanket over her form, she slowly fell asleep.

Total silence came over the mansion of the Grand Duke. The night felt calm and peaceful.

Everyone had gone to sleep, leaving only the night watch guards, patrolling the mansion’s grounds.

In the middle of the night, in one of the many rooms in the mansion, the room of the Grand Duke’s only daughter.

The little girl who had been sleeping peacefully suddenly found herself in a dream.

Though the dream was strange, it was also familiar because Aristia found herself in that same space. It wasn’t really a dream, but Aristia didn’t know what else to call it.

The sofa was there waiting for her to seat on it, and the book was there too.

With a touch of familiarity, Aristia picked up the book and took a seat.

She opened the book, muttering as she turned the pages.

"Last time I wasn’t able to read past Chapter two for some reason..." She muttered, flipping the book open to the last page of the first Chapter.

She tried to see if she could turn the page over to the next Chapter, and to her delight, the page turned. "Finally! I can see what I did to make Carolyn cry!"

She began reading the next Chapter.

But her brow furrowed. The Chapter didn’t continue from where it stopped.

She turned the book to the previous page and turned the next page. But she hadn’t skipped a page.

Frustration bubbled inside her, but she had no choice but to continue reading.

The Chapter she was reading was about how Carolyn Cornwell navigated growing up in high society; her challenges and strengths.

As Aristia continued to read, she reached a part that made her brows rise.

"Wade...?"

The Chapter explained that as Carolyn Cornwell began to attend tea parties and social events at seven years of age, she faced bullying from those of higher positions.

On one occasion, she met a young master, the son of a Marquis. His name was Wade Oswalt.

Wade Oswalt was the Marquis’ illegitimate son. Disdained and ostracized by everyone, especially since his birth mother was not only a commoner, but a whore.

Wade Oswalt had no friends.

After the wife of the Marquis died a year before when he was six, Wade became even more seclusive.

It was not to be helped that some people also blamed him for the death of the Marchioness, saying that he was the cause.

Carolyn Cornwell had heard about him from the people she got along with.

She felt bad for him. Her pure heart just couldn’t stand the sad fate the boy had faced.

Why was he being treated badly by everyone for something he hadn’t done?

So she decided to become his first friend.

She tried to approach him once but was interrupted by other children. She tried numerous times, but one thing or the other prevented her from approaching him.

When she did succeed, Wade only stared at her with no expression.

Finally, Carolyn caught sight of a group of children surrounding Wade and mocking him during a banquet.

Those children came from families who had higher titles and positions than herself, yet she bravely stood up for Wade without minding the trouble it would cause her.

After the children left, Wade questioned her, asking her why she would go through such lengths.

Carolyn’s reply was simple yet touching. She had asked him how he expected her to stand still and do nothing when he was being blamed for what he couldn’t control.

This all happened with her eyes filled with unshed tears, stunning Wade.

That moment changed something in Wade. The boy silently decided to protect her since his family had a higher status.

From then on, he would fiercely protect her.

What started as a simple admiration and gratefulness for the girl’s brevity and courage turned into something else.

At the same time, Wade’s experience growing up changed him from the boy he used to be. He was no longer shy, awkward and timid. Instead he became sharp, witty and manipulative.

The only person he cared about was Carolyn.

Which was why he came to hate Aristia.

Everytime Carolyn and Aristia interacted, Carolyn would end up misunderstood or in tears, or both.

Wade despised Aristia, the main villainess of the story.

Thump! Thump!

Aristia’s heart skipped two beats and her eyes widened, looking up from the book.

"I’m... the story’s villainess?!"

She let out a forced, mirthless laugh. "So it’s really not Alicia Eldridge."

She was already aware that she wasn’t the book’s heroine, and if she was being honest with herself, deep down, she had always known somewhere inside her that she was... the villainess.

It didn’t matter that it was original Aristia.

She was living life as Aristia.

Carolyn Cornwell had appeared and Aristia feared that the book would force things to play as it should.

[But can the book turn me into a villainess?] Aristia thought.

After asking herself this and thinking about it, she shook her head.

She didn’t believe that the book could force her into the role of a villainess.

Before she could breath a sigh of relief, something occured to her.

[But what if...]

The book couldn’t force her to act like a villainess, but what if it forced her to look like a villainess.

Carolyn Cornwell literally exuded an aura of pureness. Just that time in the banquet, she had been able to away the crowd, almost painting her as someone who had done something bad.

What if that was the book’s way of putting things back in place?

She would have to be extra wary of Carolyn, not that she hadn’t decided that before, but now that she guessed the book would try to fix things, she had to be extremely careful.

Thinking about what was written about Wade made her face fall.

"So Charlotte didi die." She said. "And Wade..."

The book had said he hated her. Despised her.

For some reason, she could almost see Wade glaring at her with hatred and loathing.

Thinking of the cheerful Wade who was always happy and excited to see her suddenly looking at her with such a hate filled gaze all because of Carolyn made Aristia’s heart ache.

After shaking away all those negative thoughts, she continued reading the book.

The Chapter ended and she moved to open the next Chapter, wishing that the page would turn.

To her pleasant surprise, the page did turn.

But something unexpected happened.

A burst of light shone out of the book, shining on her face.

The light was so sharp that she had to close her eyes entirely.

Once the light cleared, she opened her eyes, squinting slightly.

Blinking multiple times, her vision finally settled on her surroundings.

But to her shock, the book wasn’t there, and neither was the space.

Instead, she found herself back in her room.

She did not know how long she had been in that space but after taking a look around the dark room, she could guess that it was still nighttime.

She thought of turning her head to the side, but she found out that she couldn’t.

Suddenly, she found out that Millie that had been sleeping on the bed beside her wasn’t there.

"Millie?" She tried to open her lips to call Millie, but no sound came out of her mouth. Her lips didn’t even move.

Before she could even try to figure out what was going on, the door opened.

Adeline entered the room with a group of maids.

Aristia watched as Adeline and the maids bowed before the maids quietly went to open the windows.

Only then did Aristia realize that contrary to what she thought, it wasn’t night time, but morning. All the curtains had just been pulled close over the windows so she didn’t notice.

Now that the room was bright, she notice that her room looked a bit different.

For one, her study table had no work documents even though there had been a few documents before she went to bed.

Instead, there were trinkets and textbooks.

Her bed was filled with dolls for some reason too.

The atmosphere of the room was just different from what she was used to. She didn’t know how to explain it, but it was just the feeling she had.

"Good morning, your highness." The maids, including Adeline, greeted, not showing any signs of noticing Aristia’s abnormality.

[Why’s Linny acting weird? And when did she start to call me ’your highness’? Wasn’t it always ’princess Aristia’?] Aristia wondered.
