Genya ignored the man in the white lab coat and instead turned his eyes toward the people trapped inside the containers.

These people were clearly not dead, but they had fallen unconscious within the nutrient fluid of the cultivation tanks.

"These... these are all the people who went missing from Konoha!" Kakashi had followed him down and now stood frozen in fury as he looked at the countless test subjects.

From the looks of it, each of them had been injected with some experimental compound.

"You’re angry already?" Genya looked at Kakashi with a mocking smile. "This is only what you can see. How many do you think you never got to see? The ones who died from the failed experiments were probably already disposed of."

Genya swept his gaze across the subjects, his eyes carefully examining each one.

He could see the abnormalities within their bodies. Some had been injected with Hashirama cells. Others had been used for different forms of research.

One thing was certain: none of them were in good condition.

It seemed Danzo had been conducting secret experiments far beyond what the village knew.

"Does the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, know about these experiments?" Kakashi asked, his anger still burning as he looked at the captives.

All of these people were innocent villagers.

His rage only grew stronger.

"What do you think?" Genya chuckled, throwing the question back at him.

"If Hiruzen didn’t know, would Danzo really have been able to build such a large laboratory right under the jurisdiction of the Sarutobi Police Force?"

Kakashi’s brows tightened.

Genya was right. Without Hiruzen’s silent approval, Shimura Danzo could never have built a facility of this scale within Konoha.

"Doing something like this... weren’t they afraid of being discovered?"

It seemed Konoha was in desperate need of a cleansing.

"Who do you think Hiruzen Sarutobi will blame if this whole thing blows up?" Genya asked, his tone light and mocking. "He will never admit it was his own fault."

"Even if he gets caught, Hiruzen will just push everything onto Shimura Danzo." Kakashi understood immediately. Then something seemed to come to mind, and he added, "Just like he did with one of the former Sannin, Orochimaru."

Thinking about this, Kakashi inevitably thought about Orochimaru.

Back then, Orochimaru had also been caught conducting private experiments inside Konoha.

The Third Hokage struck him down in the name of justice.

Because of that... even though Orochimaru caused enormous damage to the village, Hiruzen Sarutobi himself suffered no consequences. Instead, he was loved even more by the villagers.

"Then should we expose this Root base and let all of Konoha know?" Kakashi looked at Genya, his tone serious.

He had already prepared himself to reveal Konoha’s darkest side alongside Genya, and he had even mentally prepared to be hunted down by Hiruzen afterward.

"It is not time yet." Genya shook his head.

While the two were speaking, the white-coated medical researcher who had first questioned Genya stormed angrily toward them.

He glared at the two of them with fury.

Then he pointed at Genya and cursed, "I was talking to you! Are you deaf? I am Lord Danzo’s trusted subordinate! If you make me angry, you will suffer his punishment!"

He must have been used to being arrogant. The researcher’s mouth was filthy, and he was clearly not used to being ignored.

"Noisy."

Genya let out a cold snort as Shinra Tensei burst forth.

An invisible force erupted.

The white-coated researcher, who had been shouting nonstop, was instantly blasted away and slammed into the wall.

"W-what?" The researcher was still dazed, unable to understand how the masked man had grabbed his neck.

It felt like some invisible force had pulled him over.

What was going on?

While he was still confused, the masked man’s cold voice cut through the air. "You are one of Danzo’s researchers. He kidnapped all these civilians—what kind of experiment is he planning?"

"Bah." The arrogant researcher snorted with a cold sneer. "What right do you have to question me? If you want answers, go report to Lord Danzo yourself. Let him tell you."

Even now, he still believed Genya was part of Root—only acting out because he had been scolded. Someone like Genya would never dare truly harm him. That was the source of his arrogance.

"Oh? If that’s the case... then you have no reason to keep living." Genya’s voice grew serious, and a wave of killing intent slowly spread from him.

His fingers tightened.

The researcher, who had been calm and cocky just moments ago, suddenly felt his throat being crushed. His breath began to stop.

His expression twisted.

Fear finally appeared in his eyes as he stared at Genya. The masked man truly intended to kill him.

Why? Was he not afraid of Danzo’s punishment?
