Karma is a bitch! A big one and eventually it catches up with those who ask for it. But only the softhearted ones would end up wishing for the pain, and guilt that comes along with it to end. But then, it would be too late for redemption just like it was too late for Zoe to change the hands of time.
It was already too late for the depressed young girl to go back, and fix everything back just the way it was. But she never really knew that not all broken things can be fixed, and not everyone guilty can heal from the pain they have caused to themselves and of course to their victims.
"Zoe, you need to eat. Stop being so stupid, allowing yourself to think that you have any explanation to give to Narika. She’s a murderer! She killed your auntie! Wake up!" Naomi Wintergreene shouted at her daughter, who lay like a corpse on her bed, fading away every sound so it was impossible for her to even understand what her mother was saying.
But the past few weeks, she had had enough of her mother’s banterings which was the reason why she fell into depression, she failed Narika. She destroyed the life of her best friend!
It wasn’t easy, just like it was when she had told her mother what had happened for her aunt to end up six feet in the ground.
Yesterday was Aunt Morgana’s burial, and she hasn’t been able to not stop thinking about the dream she had. Her aunt appeared to her and she was angry. Not angry at Narika but towards her, who did nothing.
When she had tried to ask why the cold shoulder, especially after she had tried to seek vengeance for her death, just like her mother had called it. Aunt Morgana warned her. The warning was made clear to her that even in the next five years, she wouldn’t forget it.
You made a huge mistake Zoe, and your time to pay for it is coming. Faster than you think!
Since she woke up, she hasn’t been able to do anything but to glance at the ceiling until her mother had walked in, demanding that she stop acting stupid and fix her life back.
But what her mother didn’t know was that there was no life without Narika. They did everything together, more than a sister would do with just a friend. Narika was everything that made staying in Tomorrow town worth it.
Zoe came back to her senses when she was dragged up from the bed, by her mother who grabbed her face and lightly slapped on it.
"Baby, look at me." Naomi said, trying to get Zoe back to herself. She didn’t even realize that she was crying and Zoe was still in a world of her own to know that she was hurting her acting this way.
"Zoe, please stop this. I can’t do this any more. Wake up." Naomi called for her, and soon she was crying too. Which did the work because Zoe snapped out of her comfort zone, to see that they were both in a crying garlour.
"It’s all my fault. I failed her. I betrayed her." Zoe mumbled, doing the most by grabbing at her hair, and falling back down on her back on her bed, with her eyes rolling to the back of her head.
"No..no. please no more," Naomi grabbed her into her arms, she was having a panic attack and this has been going on for weeks ever since she came back that night from work, only to hear the rumors about Narika being fired from work.
Both families knew how tight their daughter was, but they left her with no choice but to act the way she did, when it was clearly written on the wall that Narika killed her sister. Although the prints run on the blood didn’t match Narika’s.
But everything went worse when Zoe finally opened up, and told her everything. Naomi has always had her suspicions that Narika wasn’t normal, but what would you have her do when her daughter isn’t planning on listening to her?
That half Indian witch is possessed, and somehow she had done something to her daughter for her to be this way.
"George!" Naomi called for her husband when Zoe’s shaking didn’t stop, she was scaring the shit out of her and she doesn’t know what to do anymore.
She had tried talking to her, but that didn’t end well. She wouldn’t stop blaming herself for how Narina had ended.
"Sweetheart, what is it?" George asked, with hastened footsteps as he entered Zoe’s room to see his wife holding a convulsing Zoe in her arms.
"She’s not stopping. She doesn’t stop talking about how it’s her fault about what happened to Narika. I tried talking to her, then she ended up like this." Naomi cried, as George rushed over and pulled Zoe to lie on her side.
"Go get the honey bby." George told Naomi, who dashed out instantly and got what he requested of her.
Mr. George Wintergreene just gave Zoe a little amount of it, and waited for a few minutes while running his hands through Zoe’s hair.
Naomi was walking up and down the room in abject frustration. It didn’t take a while before Zoe released a deep breath, and turned over to lie on her bed before her eyes fell on her parents.
She didn’t need anyone to tell her what happened, because she sat up with her eyes full of tears." I can’t do this anymore, I have to apologize." With that being said, she rushed out of the house, ignoring her mother’s call for her.
But she can’tn’t p until she’s done what has been asked of her, hoping that it won’t be too late for that.
But who knows if Narika would be willing to give her a listening ear?
Whereas, she herself couldn’t really give a definite explanation for the reason why she did what she did by reporting to the police, and not doing anything while her so-called best friend was being fired from work.
Hmm. It is indeed so sad, but just like they said, apologies can’t fix everything and maybe it was too late for that too.
