Chapter 656: Chapter 271 Alley, Darkness, Family

Leo’s appearance confirmed that there was a connection between this place and the Icebound Continent.

With audacity, this unknown space had been severed and banished by the God-chosen Knight, distancing it from the Antarctic Frozen Continent, and due to the seals deteriorating over time, it gradually overlapped with the spatial node of Highway 114.

"Successor..."

Leo was overjoyed, but also somewhat puzzled.

In the faraway Icebound Continent, because of the link between space and the seals, he had sensed his own power reinforcing the seal on Torgoguryr’s skull and had hastened to lend a hand.

Unexpectedly, on closer inspection, he made a surprising discovery.

Wayne, clad in Sun Knight Armor identical to his, made it obvious without thinking that the Goddess had appointed the next Sun Knight.

Wonderful, finally someone else to stand guard!

Leo felt a mix of elation that he need not stay on the Icebound Continent playing cards and bewilderment at the Goddess’ abrupt choice, such an important matter and yet he hadn’t been notified in advance.

But soon, Leo understood the reason.

The seal on the Icebound Continent was too perilous, and to be cautious, it was prudent to choose a Knight successor beforehand to ensure the transmission and handover of powers.

Lest there be a situation like with the Dark Knight, where the predecessor died and there was no one to follow.

"My successor, congratulations on earning the Goddess’ recognition, and thank you for helping me recover my lost power..."

Leo crossed the expanse of space to convey his goodwill, waving his hand to reclaim the medal, and with it, his power that had been scattered outside.

Cushioned by emotion, busy reinforcing the seal and unable to converse with Leo, could only apologize through Telepathic Transmission.

Having disappeared for so many years without completing his mission, he had let down the trust Leo placed in him.

Leo smiled and said nothing, consoling his old comrade not to be sad, and requested him to mentor the successor. Once things settled down on the Icebound Continent, he promised to meet with the successor in person.

Separated by vast distances, Leo couldn’t make out Wayne’s face clearly. Just as he was about to ask for the successor’s name, he suddenly spotted Valkyrie in Knight Armor nearby.

"Who might you be?"

Leo was baffled, sensing the unique power of the Sun Knight on Valkyrie, but as far as he knew, he was the only Knight walking among men, and Valkyrie’s Armor was old and battered, vastly different from what he remembered.

"I am a Knight of the Goddess; a thousand years ago I fell to the God-chosen Continent. I’ve forgotten my original name, now I am called Valkyrie." Valkyrie replied, raising her Knight’s Sword.

"Respected ancestor, Knight Leo here expresses his respect for you. Forgive me for not being able to leave the Icebound Continent, I will convey your situation to the Goddess." Faced with a senior Knight, Leo was extremely respectful.

He had reason to suspect the Goddess had chosen Wayne long ago and was fully aware of Valkyrie’s existence, arranging for Valkyrie to approach him before confirming Wayne as the successor.

It seemed Wayne’s knighthood had already passed Valkyrie’s test.

With that in mind, he had nothing to worry about; the foresight of a predecessor couldn’t be wrong.

The Spatial Fissure was about to heal. Leo couldn’t inquire Wayne’s name in time, but he waved a hand, sprinkling a shower of golden light, aiding Cushioned in stabilizing the seal.

Two breaths later, Leo’s figure along with the cold of the Icebound Continent vanished.

Above the Black Mountain Range, a phantom sun appeared, with golden light intertwining, showering down like arrow rain, forming a cage that descended from the sky, firmly ensnaring the Dark Abyss.

The earth shook, incessant roars sounded, and the unawakened Torgoguryr, overwhelmed by the dazzling golden light, was forced back into the Dark Area.

Tentacles slowly sunk, and the murmuring whispers ceased, the surrounding Black Mountain Range shed its darkness, no different from ordinary mountains.

Cushioned was still stabilizing the seal. Leo’s forceful compulsion had sent Torgoguryr back to the Dark Abyss, but it was only temporary; a permanent solution wasn’t feasible, and the damaged seal needed repair to suppress the Evil God for an extended period more effectively.

Cushioned estimated it would take about eight days, or five with help.

Wayne watched him bustle with enthusiasm, knowing he longed for his wife. Spreading his thoughts, Wayne directed a white sphere towards the Black Mountain Range.

The camera switched.

Cushioned raised his hands, commanding the golden light to mend the gaps in the seal. On his left was his wife, who had slept for over a decade and was now only in her mid-twenties, and on his right, his daughter, whom he hadn’t seen for years, now a college graduate.

The family embraced, crying and sharing their longing for each other.

Carter had little to pine for, having closed and then opened his eyes to find his daughter was twenty, feeling more regret than longing.

Caught up in the moment, it was the atmosphere that made him join in the crying.

Verity cried with her face soaked in tears. Since going to school, she had been without parents, envying other children who frolicked around theirs.

Even being punished with a spanking was a luxury she yearned for.

Although Dick and the muscular uncles and aunts took great care of her, treating her like their own daughter, it wasn’t the same as having her biological parents, and Verity found it challenging to accept them as such.

Now it was all coming together; she finally had a family.

After sobbing for a while, Verity reached out beside her—parents present, but boyfriend absent. She turned to look in Wayne’s direction.

Come over, this family isn’t complete without you.

Wayne waved his hand; he didn’t join the family in their weeping. He’d be sure to visit in a few days, but for now, Verity should savor the belated kinship.

Otherwise, his joining would have immediately warped the whole scene.

Meanwhile, the cautious Valkyrie patrolled around the Abyss, guarding against any chance of Torgoguryr’s appendages escaping.
