Mythical Monster Evolution-Chapter 51: Second Stage
Chapter 51: Second Stage
Kai was back in his evolution space as he felt his entire body undergo an evolution. He felt his bones break and move, scales growing once more.
Then, when he opened his eyes again, Kai was now in his third Growth Stage called Young Drake.
He was basically back to his previous growth stage. However, for some reason, [Dragonic Spirit] had a sixth evolution, which meant that its overall potential was also much higher.
Having only reached the fourth growth stage as a Nocturne Dragon, Kai was curious to see how this would play out.
Nevertheless, now that he was a Young Drake, he felt much more comfortable. He could walk with ease, and his limbs were a lot bigger and stronger than before.
Kai was convinced that he would be able to defeat the guard captain in this form.
Still, there was no way to test that theory as Kai was currently on his way to the second stage.
Isla was still nowhere to be seen, watching from afar all of Kai’s actions.
Nevertheless, Kai simply assumed that he needed to face this trial by himself.
Outside help was not allowed, and back in the pre-recorded message from Varkul, he had made it clear that Kai needed to understand things on his own.
"How much time do I have left?" Kai suddenly thought as he glanced at the timer inside the system.
[4 days and 8 hours.]
He had managed to complete the first stage in less than a day, which meant that Kai was definitely on pace. However, he didn’t know that.
"Tsk, I spent a long time on this stage, and it’s most likely the easiest one. Who knows how much time I’ll spend on the 2nd Stage..."
He frowned and clenched his fists.
Kai knew he could do much better than this.
Not only did he know, he had to do better. There was no other choice.
Varkul had repeated just how crucial this trial was for his evolution, and Kai didn’t want to disappoint.
He would do everything in his power to finish this trial.
His strength was lacking. He had observed it in this trial and outside of it.
[Do you wish to be teleported to the second stage?]
"Yes."
There was no doubt in his voice, only pure confidence that he would kill everything he found in his way.
Kai felt his vision turn blurry before returning to him.
However, for some reason, Kai still could not see anything.
"Was there a bug?"
He frowned.
"Why can’t I see anything?"
"Hello, is somebody here!" he screamed at the top of his lungs.
His voice echoed for a long time, reverberating back in his direction.
Then, a robotic voice spoke in his mind.
[Welcome to the second stage.]
[In this stage, you will be working on all of your senses.]
[Your task is simple. Dodge the objects heading in your direction.]
[The difficulty of this stage will increase with each dodged object. This trial is an exception in that if you die, the difficulty will not increase.]
[Good luck.]
Kai was now back to his own silence as he was in a fighting stance.
His waist was lowered.
His eyes were closed as he placed his entire focus on his hearing.
If he needed to dodge objects without being able to see them, then there was only one thing Kai could do.
Hear it as it headed in his direction.
—Swoosh!
A noise entered Kai’s mind; however, before he was even able to tell in what direction it came, the same robotic voice as earlier echoed in his mind.
[You have died.]
[Respawning...]
"It’s an arrow. Should I try another tactic?" Kai thought with a slight frown.
Instead of standing still and being an easy target, Kai decided to run as fast as he could.
It was a gamble.
He simply hoped that whoever was shooting those arrows would miss.
That was the basis of this plan.
Kai also did his best to focus on his hearing. However, it was much more difficult to do while moving at high speed.
But then, the same robotic voice resounded in his mind.
[You have died.]
[Respawning...]
Kai tried something new yet again.
But it didn’t work.
[You have died.]
[You have died.]
[You have died.]
...
Kai wasn’t sure how many times he had heard that voice utter those same exact words. But it was a lot.
No matter what Kai tried, he would die.
The fact that he couldn’t see anything was also very difficult mentally.
Over time, things should have gotten better, but it was the complete opposite.
Kai slowly began to lose himself in this darkness.
"How long has it been since I came here?"
There was no sun, no moon. Nothing to keep track of time.
That was probably the hardest thing about this challenge: keeping track of time.
"How many times did I die already?"
Kai couldn’t even answer those questions, and the worst part about all this was that Kai was still at the very first difficulty of this challenge.
"I tried everything... Nothing worked."
Kai knew he couldn’t ask for help again. Even if he could, he didn’t want to.
He needed to figure out what he was missing on his own. Varkul had made sure to tell him often.
Kai knew it himself.
He relied too much on others.
But that needed to come to a stop.
He needed to be the one people relied on.
He had the potential to do so; he simply needed to reach it now.
"I need to calm myself."
Ever since a few deaths, Kai’s heart rate had increased greatly. He was becoming more and more anxious that he would never be able to pass this stage.
However, this time, he knew that the enemy wasn’t impossible to surpass.
He just needed to find the key.
He took a deep breath and stopped running.
He stood in place.
And sat down.
Instead of focusing on his senses like his hearing, Kai decided to focus on something that he had not yet tried.
His Monster Core.
And more precisely—
The Monster Energy inside it.
