Myriad Devils-Chapter 80: The second wave of one-winged monkeys!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Under the powerful impacts caused by the one-winged monkeys that descended from the skies, the earth, facing their immense momentum, erupted and exploded, caving in without resistance.
As the debris slowly settled, and this second set of one-winged monkeys left the newly formed craters, their bodies, different from the initial set of beasts, were revealed to the stellar geniuses.
Slightly above a meter in height, not one of these newly appearing beasts were even half the size of the previous wave of one-winged monkeys.
Seeing this, Anon shook his head in dismay.
Standing before the girl who he had been protecting, helped by Jacob and Seth, the other stellar geniuses were also brought to surround her.
Unknowingly, Anon glanced toward Seth.
He did not realize, but his heart was slightly shaken, ’It doesn’t end, does it?’.
As if hearing his thoughts, Seth met with his gaze. Before, Seth was one who would’ve chuckled, or smirked. In general, he was relatively calm in practically all situations, as if he knew the unknown, and yet, there was no visible relaxation in his expression.
For a short instance, Seth’s ruby red eyes showed a different color. Though subtle, there was indeed a silvery light that had appeared, albeit momentarily.
In fact, besides this second set of one-winged monkeys, there were still eight or so one-winged monkeys from the previous batch.
This new set of monkeys were relatively shorter in height. As they stepped out of the craters, this became obvious, right. And yet, the ferocity that the visibly larger monkeys held before, seemingly disappeared as they went and stood behind the newly appearing monkeys.
Though the number of one-winged monkeys in this new group were slightly more, numbering around twenty or so, due to their shorter height, they almost appeared less threatening than the last group.
So, at that moment, Bolan’s voice unexpectedly resounded in the group: "We’ve already defeated the first wave of one-winged monkeys. With Natalia’s help, it shouldn’t be too difficult dealing with this lot."
Besides the eight one-winged monkeys that were recovering in the back of the new group, which were viewed as the main threat, Bolan wasn’t the only one who felt as if their chances of escaping with their life had risen slightly.
’Natalia?’ But Anon’s thoughts touched upon a totally different subject.
However, whilst his thoughts churned, Jacob replied to Bolan’s words, dampening the group’s spirits: "Just as the second world has three layers, the Beast Commander rank also has different levels to it. You may not be capable of sensing it, but I’m sure Anon and Seth can. That this group of one-winged monkeys are much scarier than the last."
"Indeed..." Seth said softly: "If you’ve been holding back until now, it’s best you reveal all your cards. I may not be capable of promising you much, but what I can promise, is my lack of ability to save your lives from now on."
Crackle!
Seth’s words brought a chill to the other geniuses. Only Felix, who had returned to his original state seemed unbothered by his words.
At the same time, a spark of purple lightning crackled between Jacob’s fingers. He smiled: "Hahaha, when I said that interesting things follow interesting people, I really didn’t mean to this extent. It appears that I have bitten off more than I can chew. Many interesting people can’t unite like we have, or else it may become too interesting."
As his words fell, a bolt of purple lightning suddenly flashed across the battlefield.
But.
Boom!
Of the one-winged monkeys that had just appeared, towards this bolt of lightning, only one stepped forward. Its single red wing quivered slightly before flapping once, lifting its body into the air. Then, its red wing flapped once more...
The bolt of lightning moved across the open field at such speeds that over a hundred meters was crossed almost instantly, and yet, the bolt of lightning disappeared the instance the one-winged monkey’s wing flapped.
Jacob was sent hurling back where he came from as the one-winged monkey stomped its feet straight onto his incoming chest!
EEE! EEE! EEE!
Jacob crashed into the ground and skidded dozens of meters across the earth before regaining control of his body. Rising to his feet like lightning, he was just in time to react to the monkey’s approaching figure as it opened its mouth and released deafening cries.
Its red wing trembled as the feathers detached from it and suddenly adorned a sharper and more vicious appearance. Like darts, they whizzed through the air and launched towards Jacob.
Seeing this, he took a deep breath in. His eyes were calm and though the razor-sharp feathers ate away at the distance separating them from him, he appeared relaxed as his lightning seemed to crackle in the very depths of his eyes.
Pa! Pa! Pa!
The sharpened feathers penetrated his skin and burst through his flesh, continuing their merry way. So quickly, no blood had spilled. Or more accurately, blood did not spill because they had hit nothing but a fading image.
Jacob reappeared before the approaching one-winged monkey with a materializing bolt of lightning in his right hand.
Seeing Jacob evade its attack, the expression on the face of this one-winged monkey changed before it quickly stomped its feet into the earth to slow its speed and then shot into the sky. But, as this bolt of lightning solidified, taking on a zig-zag shape, Jacob flung it towards the one-winged monkey, not giving it any time to evade.
Boom!
Erupting with destructive might, for a moment, it was akin to a miniature purple sun suddenly manifesting in the battlefield. Its appearance was blinding, and the explosion itself was deafening.
But as the smoke dissipated, bulleting towards Jacob was a somewhat affected one-winged monkey that screamed at the top of its lungs.
Though its speed of movement was sharp, the essence of Jacob’s principle incorporated both speed and lightning. When it came to outright speed, there was none in his realm that could match him.
And the one-winged monkey soon realized this.
As it descended from the air and rammed into Jacob’s figure, it only crashed into earth as Jacob had long made his move, leaving behind only an afterimage that almost appeared akin to a physical body.
For a moment, the entire world seemed to focus on this one-winged monkey as over a dozen crackling streaks of purple lightning appeared in the sky above.
Next to each of them, was Jacob’s figure!
Indeed, he had seemingly separated into more than a dozen bodies that then went on to hurl the manifested bolts of lightning towards the one-winged monkey.
Without giving it time to react, the bolts of lightning, fourteen to be exact, exploded on the earth below, generating a wave of heat that blew in all directions, towards both the geniuses on one side, and the gathering of one-winged monkeys on the other.
Crackle!
Resounding out were the sounds of small streaks of lightning that crackled as Jacob walked.
Approaching the deep crater that a hot smoke rose from, the intense purple lightning rampaged in the depths of his eyes. A ferocious glint was present, but more than that was the condensing smile on his face.
Indeed, he was an overbearing and haughty genius: "Said to be capable of exterminating even Beast Generals in relatively small amounts, is it that individually, you guys are this pathetic? I’ve yet to properly warm up, and you’re already dead?"
Though he did not put much force behind his words, they still fell on the ears of all who were present, even if they were a hundred meters away.
Hearing his words, Anon frowned and stepped forward. But just as he stepped forward, one of the one-winged monkeys in gathered a distance away, also took a step forward. Though they were close to two hundred meters apart, Anon’s gaze easily perceived this action.
Though it startled him slightly, it also brought a smile to his face: "The one-winged monkey is a beast that is cunning. At least, it is cunning enough to develop emotions, very basic emotions, but sadistic emotions. They tend to play with their prey and take great joy in the slow but gradual despair of their prey. So, right now, instead of uniting like the first wave, and attacking as a group, they’re singling us out to partake in a one versus one battle."
As his words fell, Catharina’s voice entered Anon’s ears. Her tone was heavy due to the experiences she had undergone in such a short time: "But isn’t the one-winged monkey confronting Jacob losing?"
"Is it really?" Seth interjected, speaking, and yet, his words did not convey anything. But what followed thereafter, fully expanded on the meaning behind the three words that he said.
The ground trembled, and though the group were over a hundred meters away, a vastly terrifying aura washed over their bodies, throwing them into the depths of a deep pool of water.
EEE! EEE! EEE!
The one-winged monkeys gathered suddenly began screaming loudly as broad, twisted grins plastered themselves across their faces.
Some even began jumping up and down, dancing while noisily laughing. On the other hand, Jacob clicked his tongue and smiled self-deprecatingly whilst distancing himself from the crater where the one-winged monkey rested.
But whilst he created distance, the rubble beneath his feet slowly began lifting off the ground and the wind grew increasingly more chaotic. As the distance between him and the crater grew, he realized a growing resistance that attempted to hold him back from retreating.
Crackle!
The streaks of lightning around him became more chaotic as a discharge of lightning suddenly exploded from his form, pushing outwards and combating this pushing force. At the same time, from the crater, a shadowy figure suddenly shot into the air, rising high into the sky before coming to an abrupt halt.
Mid-air, the one-winged monkey opened its crimson eyes wide, staring intently towards Jacob’s retreating figure.
Then, it blinked.
When the beast’s eyes reopened, Jacob was rushing towards it, not yet realizing that the winged creature had appeared in his path.
When he did though, a deep scowl appeared on his face.
"Are you comparing speed?!" Jacob roared, enraged.
His pupils slowly grew larger, covering more and more of his sclera, the whites of his eyes, as the purple lightning became more intense.
Though the one-wing monkey saw him approaching, it had a gloating grin on its face, patiently awaiting his arrival, so when Jacob did appear before it, the entire sclera of his eyes was coated in a purple sea of chaotic lightning.
