Chapter 193: Through curse, grasping blood

The cloud-severing spear deconstructed and flew towards Anon. Simultaneously, Blood Fiend shouted once more, ordering Anon’s body.

Restrained by blood curse, he was forced to watch as hundreds and thousands of blood lights materialized in the air before raining down on him.

Yet there was no panic in his eyes!

His cloud-severing spear manifested before him, containing within it an overwhelming and unparalleled black lightning.

Red and black intertwined and chaotic energies exploded...!

Blood Fiend’s face changed greatly.

"What is this?!"

He was not shocked by the black lightning or the flying spear. No, what made him apprehensive was Anon’s ability to move again.

Right after the clash of abilities, Anon was sent flying away. However, amid being flung back, he stabilized himself in the air and grabbed hold of his cloud-severing spear.

The spear glowed with a purple hue as he stomped his foot into the cloud and burst forth with greater speed toward Blood Fiend.

Tch!

Blood Fiend grasped at the air in front of him and then pulled at it, calling out loudly, "Come over here!"

Anon’s face paled instantly.

Blood gushed out of his body like an endless river. The sheer quantity of blood seemingly attempted to really form a river.

The blood river rushed into the grimoire above Blood Fiend’s head and strengthened the resonance that connected Anon’s blood and the blood curse.

However, only a few moments after, Blood Fiend’s face darkened.

Logically, this was a killing move that should’ve resulted in an almost instant death. There was no way he could regenerate his blood quick enough to keep up with the expenditure of the blood river, right?

But time passed.

The grimoire devoured blood like a bottomless abyss.

Due to this, the strength of the resonance only rose dramatically. The quantity of blood that gushed from Anon’s figure steadily increased as the resonance grew stronger.

As the grimoire absorbed more of Anon’s blood, the resonance between the two existences only intensified, and the strength of the blood magic ability only increased.

And still, Blood Fiend could only keep pulling...

At this point, even his soul was reaching its limits. Even with the grimoire to assist, to attract more blood magic power from the infernal realm for this long at this rate was a strain.

Suddenly, the blood river ceased.

Blood Fiend sighed in relief.

A chill past through his body upon thinking of the possibility that Anon had almost brought him to the brink of exhaustion solely on his ability to regenerate blood.

Such a nonsensical regeneration ability was overexaggerated even for those who achieved true mastery over the body.

If it wasn’t for this specific blood magic ability, wasn’t this Anon absolutely immortal and undying?

Thankfully, even such a freak could not keep up.

However, as the magical light and chaotic auras faded away, Blood Fiend finally saw the entire battlefield.

The defeated Anon was still standing.

In fact, his appearance was incredibly healthy, perfectly fine.

Surrounding him was a familiar aura of blood along with a vile aura of curse magic that sometimes collided and caused small explosions, and other times swirled around Anon’s body in harmony.

"Huu..."

Anon exhaled a breath of turbid air.

"When I experience things like this, it really is very difficult to not think of myself as some protagonist in the stories my dear dad used to narrate to me, when I was but a child."

Anon slowly rose his gaze to meet with Blood Fiend’s. Upon perceiving the undisguised confusion, shock, and apprehension, Anon chuckled lightly.

"As I said, to play with a form of curse magic in front of a curse magic user, is nothing but foolishness. And now, I’ve also gotten the gist of your blood magic as well."

Blood Fiend heard this, but was simply too taken aback to reply. He was frozen in the air, unable to make sense of what his eyes saw and his senses perceived.

"On second thought, you are not to be blamed for the most part. Who could really expect that my soul is very much aligned with the magic of the daemons." Anon smiled.

At that time, the daemon desired to curse his soul, but it only exposed curse magic to Anon’s mysterious soul.

Curse magic was essentially a form of magic.

Before being exposed to curse magic, it would have been slightly troublesome to confront Blood Fiend. Especially when speaking of that final attack.

But for him who had already made contact with magic, simply from the resonance that connected his blood and the blood grimoire, and the continuous influx of blood magic that came with it, Anon was able to grasp the gist of blood magic as well, and then counter it.

It was like this...

In the beginning, he was not exposed to the concept of mathematics. Upon grasping curse magic, he had been taught addition.

Blood magic was simply a different form of mathematics. Even without any guidance, he was able to decipher subtraction, multiplication, and division by himself.

Naturally, deciphering magic was a more delicate and complex matter.

Blood Fiend finally regained some semblance of thinking ability. If only looks could kill, Anon would have certainly faced certain death dozens of times by now.

Anon stood atop the cloud, but Blood Fiend did not, or more accurately, dared not descend atop the cloud. He first took some time to spread out his senses, and only upon confirming on several occasions did he descend.

Back then, he did not know that Anon was also a curse magic user, hence, he was caught unprepared. Naturally, he would not make such a blunder once more.

"So, do you think that you can wield blood magic better than me?" Blood Fiend descended onto the purple cloud battlefield.

He spoke through gritted teeth. This was not anger but indignation. He could not believe that Anon had not just survived that last attack, but was now also attracting blood magic power.

What kind of magical talent was this?

Blood Fiend was not sure if even the daemons were comparable. One must understand that true magic originated with the daemons...

"I do not dare claim that," Anon showed a playful smile. "However, defeating you is umpteenth times easier now."

"How bold!" Blood Fiend growled and waved his hand. The grimoire buzzed with power and blood lights appeared around him like stars decorating the outer void of space at night.

Anon retreated instantaneously, but the blood light appeared before him at an even faster pace.

"Don’t fool yourself, you’re exhausted beyond your limits." Anon laughed without fear. The blood lights were countered by bolts of white lightning and a massive wall made from spear images.

Anon’s right hand held the cloud-severing spear and his left hand drew magic spells on space.

As the chaotic energies blinded the battlefield, Blood Fiend’s vision was instantly swallowed by countless blood lights that replicated his own magical attacks.

At the same time, a warrior adorned in blood armor appeared alongside Anon. They maneuvered across the battlefield in utter harmony.

Blood Fiend created shields that were destroyed, his body shattered into pools of blood, and his magical attacks were continuously countered.

Struggle... He struggled.

The first all out attack, that trump card had already drained him of everything. Luckily, he offered up foreign blood to the grimoire, or else he would’ve fallen right there and then.

But even if the grimoire assisted in his recovery, it could never have been a full recovery. And soon after, he had followed up with another trump card attack...

At this point, he could not even transform into a blood river.

Curse magic wriggled around his body, draining him of even more energy.

He did not realize when, but at some point, the blood armored warrior and Anon had unified in flesh and spirit.

His blood armor shimmered under the light of the world.

Anon looked down at the pathetic state of the Blood Fiend and sighed.

"I..." Blood Fiend wanted to curse, but weakness submerged his body and soul. It was a struggle to speak, much less move.

"You do not need anyone’s pity, right?" Anon scoffed. "I only pity the pitiful people of my earth. As for you, I could not care less even if I tried to." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Chuckling to himself, Anon sighed once more and lifted his gaze to the earth above. There were numerous wounds across the earth. Therein, it is said that god’s blood spills from.

At this time, the sound of bones crushing and flesh bursting tainted the picturesque moment.

His feet crushed Blood Fiend’s heart and then his head as well. His cloud-severing spear then fell with a crushing might, spear soul glowing with an ominous black lightning.

Blood Fiend’s body was instantly shattered, returning to dust.

This dust was lifted into the air by a gentle wind and swirled around Anon’s figure nine times before seeping through his armor and driving into his skin.

Though pain instantly racked his nerves, and blood seeped through his lips, trickled down his nose, and oozed from his eyes and ears, Anon curled his lips and walked to the edge of the drifter cloud.

Behind him was a grimoire colored in blood and a flesh sword that floated mid-air.

With his arms folded, Anon observed this foreign yet intriguing world and the infinite crimson heaven that he and others eternally drifted across.

He sighed once more, unaffected by all forms of pain, "Each battle is a kind of struggle on the edge of life and death. Thereafter, one drifts across this crimson sea swallowed in a drowning sense of loneliness."

One must understand that humans were social creatures that relied and thrived in the presence of others.

"Humans are social creatures, but, I’ve come to such a realm seeking strength beyond the cosmic ruling. Is this why the cosmic ruling exists?"

"The cosmic ruling only prevents us from grasping greater strength because to grasp more strength is to abandon one’s human nature, and to abandon what makes one a human."

"In the end, however," Anon smirked and stretched out his hands, as if to embrace this world, and, as if to embrace the loneliness...

"Transcending the cosmic ruling is but scaling the tree of evolution."

"If this means abandoning humanity, I only smile because I know for certain that my path is the correct one!"
