Chapter 190: Scare

Upon writing a magic spell in the air, instigating a resonance and through his soul, summoning the power of curse magic originating from the infernal realm, the flesh sword reacted to the curse magic, awakening the eye on the sword’s hilt.

Immediately after, the world before him was reconstructed.

Where he stood had altered from the purple cloud, to the mountain peak of a hazy and obscured world. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Above dark clouds, he stood holding the flesh sword tightly. Attracted by an unknown power, Anon’s gaze was drawn to the sky above.

Before he could raise his gaze, his heart inexplicably thumped.

To look, or to not look?

Anon did not think much of it.

Then, his eyes perceived.

He saw...

The single eye that covered the skies.

From one end of the world, to the other.

The skies was black because of this eye, and its pupil was like a sun condensed from the most vile energies in the universe.

The color of such eyes... He did not recognize such a color!

When Anon’s gaze met with the single eye, his blood suddenly flowed in reverse. His orifices bled, and his head spun.

Pain racked his nerves, and his flesh twisted and squirmed.

His body began deteriorating under his gaze.

The pain intensified to a soul-wrenching degree, and in a time that was neither long, nor short, his body turned to dust.

Anon died.

.....

Opening his eyes, Anon sighed and embedded the flesh sword into the purple cloud. There was a clear issue present.

A sense of weakness washed over his body. He coughed lightly a few times, and even his throat was sore, causing a metallic taste to assault his tastebuds.

’These magic tools can amplify magical output. Is it that only daemons can use them, or is it because it was me who killed its previous master.’

’Is it the magic tool itself... What even was that?’ Anon pursed his lips, silently complaining.

Musing for some time, he decided not to interfere with that flesh sword.

Sighing again, he shifted his thoughts.

His spear reappeared in his grasp, a faint purple hue that signaled at the nature of the spells which were etched onto its body.

’Using curse magic, each wound inflicted by this spear would devour some strength. The longer the battle, the greater the effects.’

’I can also do something similar by drawing spells, however since the spells have already been carefully etched onto this spear, I would not need to write spells in the middle of battle.’

Naturally, the power of the spells would eventually be drained. But at that time, he could simply rewrite the curse spells on his spear after the battle.

Slowly siphoning his opponent’s strength might not appear effective at first, but injuries accumulates during battle.

If the opponent is stronger than him, it would eventually even the playing field.

And if that opponent were to be weaker than Anon, the curses would squander any hope they had of reversing a destined defeat.

’Besides reducing my strength, the daemon could bound me in place, and even attempt to curse me to death with that chain around my heart.’

’Most glaringly, the final attack could even curse my soul.’

’Luckily, my soul is special, but without the flesh sword, the level of my curse magic can’t be compared to the daemon’s, much less that final attack.’

’At least, as of right now. Yet, the future is a mystery. Who’s to say...’ His thoughts began to stray, but before he could truly lose himself in them, his eyes shone with a strange light.

"It seems that the Mature Cloud has located a resonance." Anon stood up, his tone hinting at a trace of emotion and excitement.

At last, there was a resonance.

The longer a resonance took to form, the greater the variables at play. After confronting that daemon, Anon was slightly humbled.

’I was fortunate that my soul could bear such an attack. But the trump cards of the other drifters would not necessarily be a self-harming last ditch attack.’

’And if that attack targeted my spirit?’

’If my spirit is destroyed, wouldn’t I be a living dead? Or would I? I rather not experience it. Worse yet, if my body is unable to resist some strange trump card?’

The greater the variables at play, the higher the chance he crossed paths with a drifter much stronger than himself.

He himself had some cards, but they weren’t like the daemon’s. Such strange cards allowed the daemon to even battle stronger foes.

It was only unlucky it met Anon who carried such a strange soul.

More importantly, Anon had no such strange cards. Even if he had developed the ability to wield curse magic, it wasn’t that impressive at all.

Besides the two arts acquired from the lightning reckoning dimension, his attacks were slightly lackluster.

There was only so much that his spear soul, with the help of one apex-tier technique, could accomplish.

Mature Clouds had the power of fifth worlders after all.

True mastery over the body improved his survivability.

Although it greatly improved his strength, this would only be effective against opponents with straight-forward cards.

Tricky opponents like the daemon countered his great strength.

"Surely, I won’t face such an opponent soon, right?" Anon mumbled this, jokingly. The daemon was his first opponent. From now on, his opponents were drifters of the Mature Cloud level.

Objectively speaking, the daemon was destined to be his easiest opponent.

Thinking like this, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst... it would prevent an event in which he was greatly shocked by an opponent’s strength.

Anon placed the spear on his lap and sat peacefully.

The Mature Cloud was clearly much more robust, moving at 6,000 miles per hour. This was not necessarily comparable to Anon’s own speed, but it was nearing his limit.

After all, his soul had undergone a transformation. The Mature Cloud was only a representation of his soul’s strength. The strength of his soul also hinted at his overall strength.

On the other hand, the crimson sea was truly infinite.

Even at this speed, it was very rare to come across another drifting cloud.

When two drifting clouds flashed past, at times, both drifters would perceive the other, and at other times, they may not even realize the other’s existence.

Anon’s eyes were closed.

Though his spirit was suppressed and stellar cosmic energy did not exist, his thoughts still plunged into the depths of his body, deciphering the secrets of his flesh.

Even if he could observe down to a cellular level, there was indeed an even deeper stage. Yet, his willpower limited his investigation.

Still, there was no harm in him slowly investigating through meditation.

After a while, Anon’s perception entered his own mind realm.

Condescended into a humanoid form from soul power, he meditated on the inner world.

This dark world...

His dark soul contained a myriad of secrets that he had not gotten even the slightest revelation to.

No!

’Hold on.’ Anon opened his eyes wide.

’Initially, I wondered how rare it was for someone to devour wraiths. Was it something that was common? I had even rightfully concluded that it was not.’

’Then in this dimension, coming across daemonic power for the first time, the daemon made the mistake of attacking my soul. I instinctively felt little threat, then what occurred?’

’That daemonic force was devoured as well...’

When Anon’s thoughts reached here, he suddenly felt as if the fog which hampered and shrouded his understanding was dissipating.

At this time...

’Huh?’

A ripple of energy flashed past him.

It was so fast.

Thereafter...

"Arghhh!"

Anon screamed in discomfort.

He grabbed his head and wriggled on the cloud.

Rampant across the earth above were countless demonic manifestations.

Two armies of towering demonic figures clashed.

Their energies were tremendous, endless.

It spread throughout the world.

Anon felt tremendous fear welling up in his mind realm.

Within the dark world, the manifestation of his willpower was assaulted, threatening to implode.

The Mature Cloud swiftly altered its course, distancing itself from the residual power.

This...

It was caused by the battle between Empyreans.

Anon did not even perceive the battle.

He was nowhere close, but the residual power was enough to almost drive him insane!

Fainting on the cloud, his mind realm trembled for some time. The demonic energies which invaded his mind brew chaos from within.

Having lost conscious, his pale body and muscles quivered with discomfort and blood oozed from his pores.

He was instantly reduced to a pathetic state.

The Mature Cloud circled the battle arena of the Empyreans and the demonic army battling on the earth above them.

At the same time, slowly yet surely, as the purple cloud sailed across the crimson heaven, it grew in size.

From the initial 1,200 meters in diameters, it reached 1,250, and then 1,300. Finally, it stopped growing at 1,400 meters in diameters.

As its sudden growth came to an end, Anon’s unconscious state also came to an end.

When he groggily got up, his expression was a strange one.

The scene before him was...
