Chapter 172: Jacob & Felix

Boom!

Following a muffled explosion, a vicinity of over fifty meters in a highly populated area of the Blood-Drip Jungle was reduced to dust.

Over the past few months in which a certain duo were stranded in the Lost Lands, another duo had been instigated, their potential set ablaze. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Felix’s fleshy body grew to be immensely powerful over this time, however in the face of a beast general, even if it was a low-level beast general, it was simply too much.

A golden aped behemoth standing over twenty meters tall clashed with Felix’s zombie-like hulking figure. Not much had changed since then. As he suffered more and more wounds, his heartbeat became more erratic, and his strength steadily rose.

Yet still, the golden aped beast general was too powerful.

This growth rate had its limitations, and when he overexerted himself, he simply fell unconscious.

Something similar occurred in the present time.

The golden ape saw the strange hulking human fall unconscious mid-battle, and being a bloodthirsty monster, it quickly seized the opportunity.

Its fist was even larger than Felix’s body, and around its fist was blazing flames that caused space to tremble and melt.

Sigh...

"As I said, you focus too much on your physical body, whilst your spirit is a limiter, restraining your growth rate." Jacob’s voice fell.

Though his words took some time to spread into the surroundings, only a crackle of purple lightning was left where Felix had fallen unconscious.

The golden ape’s fist made contact with the ground, and sunk deep into the earth, releasing a massive explosion that sent waves of power far into the distance.

Jacob was already a great distance away from the golden ape, placing Felix gently onto the ground.

No matter Felix’s state, he would not die.

In recent times, this had become a very common practice for the duo.

Since Jacob was almost overwhelmingly stronger, to bridge the gap between the two, Felix fought most of the battles.

Even though he was only in the second layer of the second world, due to the nature of his principle, he could even battle a low-level beast general.

In this world, there were many kinds of principles. Some favored direct combat, and others were more auxiliary types. Felix’s principle was absolutely made for combat.

On the other hand, the destructive properties of Jacob’s principle was high, however a lightning principle could be considered a speed-type principle as well.

After dealing with Felix’s safety, Jacob looked back, taking in the destruction caused by these two.

In such battles, the environment was rarely a hindrance.

Over a kilometer of destruction like this could be considered quite tame.

For the most part, this area had been reduced to a wasteland. In this wasteland, Jacob’s figure buzzed across.

He calmly stepped towards the golden ape beast general.

Every time his feet pushed off of the ground, his figure transformed into a streak of purple lightning, reverting back to his physical form only when his feet were just about to land on the ground to take another step.

The golden ape could not help but take notice to his aura.

It, who had just been absolutely furious due to the disappearance of its prey, finally came to a realization that, this new human must have something to do with it.

Enraged, the golden ape bellowed and beat its chest. Each time its fist landed on its chest, a powerful wave of heat pressed down onto Jacob’s slender frame and attempted to slow his movements.

However, as he gently placed his hand on the hilt of his sword, the aura surrounding him instantly flared, and his speed dramatically spiked.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared within striking distance of the golden ape. The beast general roared once again, sending a powerful fist burning in flames at Jacob’s figure.

However, in another blink, Jacob appeared atop the golden ape’s shoulder as the creature’s fist sunk into the earth for the second time.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The sword screamed with joy whilst bolts of lightning traced across the skies. For a moment, a bright light blinded the world.

.....

Jacob sat atop the golden ape’s corpse, casually swiping the blood off the blade of his sword. Grinning from time to time, he looked at his sword with an affectionate gaze.

Felix groggily trotted in Jacob’s direction, a slightly sour expression plastering itself onto his face.

"I told you, instead of exchanging for fist techniques, you should’ve exchange for resources to assist in speeding up your cultivation." Jacob’s casual voice entered Felix’s ears.

Felix remained silent for a while.

Currently, he had reverted to his base form. His figure was even more slender than Jacob, and his facial features were refined and even slightly noble.

When he reached closer to the beast general’s corpse, he gently leapt onto the beast’s chest, observing the sleek cut that had half of its head hanging to one side, with gushing blood still pooling under its corpse.

Pointing at the cut at the beast’s neck, Felix turned to Jacob and asked, "Look at that. Isn’t that the power of a top-tier technique? If you exchanged merit for techniques, why can’t I?"

Sigh...

Jacob slowly sheathed his sword and rubbed his blood-stained right hand against the comforting fur of the golden ape beast general.

Plucking a golden strand, Jacob slowly raised it to the sky, observing it with deep focus whilst he replied to Felix.

"Why watch me, and follow what I do? Each individual is unique. Currently, you aren’t even in the third layer of the second world, much less at the peak like myself," Jacob said. "My next breakthrough will see me enter the third world. How difficult it would be. No amount of resources makes that possible. Maybe a magic ritual, however those things are too good to be true."

Shifting his gaze toward Felix, he said, "Resources will greatly aid you, but not me. You are different from me. I need techniques to raise my strength, whilst you can improve your cultivation to raise your strength. I already explained this to you."

Scratching his head with a tinge of embarrassment, Felix sheepishly laughed.

Truthfully, back then, he was one of the smarter individuals.

However, as he continued to fall unconscious upon pushing his principle power to the limits of what his spirit could bear, his memory grew foggier, and even his general intelligence decreased.

Jacob had perceived this, but what he could do was limited. At most, he could only urge Felix to focus on cultivating his spirit.

Staring at the latter with a complex gaze, Jacob sighed meaningfully and rose to his feet. Though Felix was slightly confused by Jacob’s gaze, he remained silent.

"Didn’t they say each beast general has a territory it protects. In these territories are treasures? So, where is this treasure?" Jacob grumbled under his breath.

Felix heard this and asked, "Is it that, it was destroyed during our clash?"

Jacob frowned at this.

It wasn’t the first beast general that they had confronted.

He naturally had his own intentions for seeking out these low-level beast generals.

If all things flowed well, he would have stumbled across some treasures to aid in Felix’s cultivation, increasing his cultivation speed.

’Once he can enter the third layer, he should mostly recover, right?’ Jacob pursed his lips. Both Anon and Seth had disappeared.

He was quite interested in Anon.

They fought together against those idiotic inheritors, and then it was the tide of one-winged monkeys.

Seth too.

Even if they did not have the best relationship, Jacob and Seth did indeed go through life-and-death together.

In the blink of an eye, Jacob lost two life-and-death companions.

Only Felix remained.

’Since when did I grow to be this caring?’ Jacob chuckled darkly. However his heart thumped, and each thump was painful.

To Jacob, the current situation was even worse than the disappearance of the two. At least, Anon and Seth could be living their best lives now.

This was the delusion he could feed his subconscious thanks to not being in the know. Their situation was unknown after all.

On the other hand, he was watching Felix deteriorate with his own eyes.

The death of the mind was the truest form of death.

If Felix did not push himself under the threat of death, simply wishing to enter the third layer would be a fool’s dream.

But, the more times he pushed himself, the more he lost himself. It was the first time in his life, Jacob ever seen or heard about a principle like this.

Such a deplorable principle...

He found it infuriating.

And worse yet, he was unable to do anything about it.

It was like being caught between a rock and a hard place, no matter what option he chose, they all resulted in bad outcomes.

Jacob felt his reasoning slip from his mind ever so often.

He was trying.

He was really trying to stay sane.

However, if it really did happen.

If he really lost another one...

This was a kind of weakness that he found utterly despairing.
