Myriad Devils-Chapter 157: The changes that come with only a slight improvement
The moment the wraith plunged into Anon’s heart, everything had suddenly disappeared. In the world he perceived, a great transformation took place.
As everything returned to nothing, only a star stood in the endless darkness...
This star was strange.
It released an intense and fiery dark green aura that warped the atmosphere, and there appeared to be large, deep cracks all across its body.
The aura it released was overwhelming and at the same time, heart-chilling. It was completely capable of capturing the minds of ordinary individuals who glimpsed at it, throwing sanity into madness!
The shattering star was a mighty gathering of corrosive energies, and this gathering of malevolent energy begun vibrating.
The star trembled as it rolled forward.
It moved with undeniable might, crackling in the dark void as if attempting to break out of an elusive cage, and then, it crashed into an unmovable object...
Boom!
There was an invisible force that spread far into the depths of the world of darkness as the shattered star glowing with malevolent energies collided into another celestial star!
This golden star burned.
It burned vigorously.
What it burned was not just the world of darkness, but it also burned the corrupted energies too.
It released waves of eternal flames that attempted to burn everything!
The two stars collided, and the force caused the entire dark world to quake.
The malevolent energies of the shattering star seeped into the celestial sun star, attempting to corrupt it from inside out.
The eternal flames, a burning gold flame, also began to change. Traces of dark green flames appeared at times, and then disappearing.
Yet, as time passed, the green flames became more prominent. The golden star’s radiance intensified, but its initial grand purity seemed to be slowly altering into a chaotic state.
Whilst this was the case, to achieve this, the dark green star suffered greatly, and the cracks and fissures became more prominent.
The shattering star and the celestial sun star collided again and again, one visibly imposing and mighty in appearance, lacking any physical injuries, whilst the other seemed to be on the brink of destruction, even its malevolent energy dissipating.
As time passed, the shattered star saw its corrupted flames dissipate, and its second layer of impure liquid evaporate, revealing only its most core area which had already been turned to ruin, the shattered star was almost instantly swallowed by the celestial sun star, completely and absolutely.
The world turned silent.
Once again, there was only one star in this realm.
The celestial sun star’s flames burned.
But it had inevitably transformed, and for the most part, there were only green flames releasing waves of intensity that burned the world.
However, the second layer of the celestial sun star remained incredibly pure and golden. Even from afar, the corrupted green flames could not hide the purity of the golden essence.
Anon opened his eyes and released a breath of malevolent air.
’Before, the remnant souls would assault my soul immediately after plunging into my mind. However, this damn wraith entered my mind and attempted to use soft attacks. Tsk, luckily my soul’s very sensitive.’ Anon thought this and clicked his tongue.
His radiant gold eyes had a dark green ring around them as he glanced at the children’s corpses and smiled wider.
’The remnants of this wraith’s emotions and desires have not been purified by my soul and still has some effect on me.’ Anon mused, ’In truth, this was slightly challenging, much more difficult than dealing with the remnant souls, so I don’t dare to enter the fourth layer, however I can already seek out more wraiths in this layer and devour them.’
’Though I haven’t fully devoured this wraith, there’s no need to be overly worried. At most, I’ll have a unique fetish.’ Anon had a playful smile on his lips as he observed the corpses.
Naturally, torturing little souls were not a fetish of his, but it seemed that, when it was in the living world, this particular wraith did have such a unique taste.
Some of its remaining ’uniqueness’ was still lingering on Anon’s soul, so for a temporary time, until he fully ridded this lingering desire, he would also adopt such a strange taste.
As he stepped toward the entrance of the cavity, Anon’s brows furrowed.
Hmm?
His radiant eyes burned with even more ferocity, momentarily giving light to the dark cave.
Tsk, tsk, tsk...
’These damn lingering desires.’ Anon sighed and shook his head, ’Why would I go and attempt devouring another wraith when I’m not in my peak condition?!’
’Well, I guess you were getting desperate huh. However, it’s because of that, I’ve regained more of my clarity.’
Thinking this, Anon sat down a meter away from a half-decomposed corpse and leaned against the wall, closing his eyes.
The corrupted flames burned endlessly.
However, these flames were in their most basic, gaseous, state. It could not compare to the liquified state of the golden essence. Such intensity that had even liquified was simply too much.
And the potency of such golden essence could not be swallowed.
As time passed, the dark green flames and the golden essence continued to attack each other, and soon after, streaks of golden flames reemerged amongst the corrupted flames.
Eventually, the entire celestial sun star was purified.
One could say that it returned to its previous state, however its radiance had expanded significantly.
If the shattered star was no larger than a dwarf star, the size of the current celestial sun star was at least ten times that!
The celestial sun star pulsated with immense intensity, causing the dark world to buzz continuously.
As Anon opened his eyes and released a hot breath of air, within that breath contained the lingering desires of the wraith, dissipating to nothingness.
After being purified, the wraith’s desires and emotions were mostly destroyed and refined, becoming an invisible nourishment to the sun star.
Under the influence of the lingering desires, Anon did say that the effects of the wraith was minimal which was not incorrect.
Theoretically, he could’ve truly gone on to attempt devouring another wraith, or even two more, however the risk of permanent corruption would jump significantly.
Even if the wraith failed to devour his will, if its lingering desires controlled his soul, then what was the difference?
So it was smarter to simply refine and purify all of the lingering desires and emotions, converting it into nourishment and strengthen his will.
Although there was a subtle feeling that an unknown force resided in this lost land, meaning that the longer he and Seth stayed in one territory, the higher the chance that they would cross paths with these natives, at the same time, he could not completely risk everything and rush to devour the strongest of these creatures in this mind swallowing abyss.
If he did just that, his mind would undoubtedly be swallowed by the abyss!
"Did the wraith devour the remnant souls of these children?" Anon pondered aloud as he observed the corpses that had rotted considerably.
Some of the wraith’s memories before death had been devoured, naturally. However its memories as a wraith weren’t present.
After death, and transforming into such things, their sentience level would have plummeted greatly, so it wasn’t unusual that Anon could not retract any of its memories after death.
At the same time, he had little interest for its original memories.
’Is this some type of cryptic message from fate? I initially thought it was due to the fact that being a wraith naturally twisted its emotions and desires. Who’d have thought this bastard was a serial killer in the world before the great rebirth?’
’And one that targeted these poor little souls.’ Anon mused as he observed the corpses, brushing past them and heading toward the entrance to the tunnel.
As he approached the entrance, he also progressively lost interest in the wraith that he devoured and the corpses on his side.
Finally, he smiled.
The radiance in his eyes were more prominent than before.
Evidently, this was due to the transformation of his will.
At the same time, his six senses had grown too. Not only that, but he had grown more sensitive to his fleshy body.
He could seemingly hear the sound of a flowing river. In fact, this was his blood coursing through his veins.
Although all these things did not undergo dramatic transformations, such improvements were still noticeable.
Anon long deduced that the sun star was a manifestation of his will, whereas the dark world represented his soul. As for why his soul was represented in such a form, he didn’t know, nor cared.
Anyway, he also sensed the expansion of the sun star, meaning the strengthening of his will.
And in his mind, the dark world, he could faintly make out a humanoid figure. This figure was the internal image of his fleshy body, however it was still too obscure to really deduce anything.
Simultaneously, his spirit, which could only heal naturally, and even found the azure plums useless, suddenly felt slightly less heavy.
The critical injury was still at a critical stage, and he couldn’t afford to summon stellar cosmic energy, however it was a promising sign indeed.
Hmm?
Anon smirked.
He suddenly had the urge to equip himself and wield his spear.
’Only a slight improvement in my will and soul can bring about such vast changes? Even my comprehension of a top-tier technique has been affected.’
Anon mused, ’With such a transformation after just this slight improvement, what will happen if my soul and will undergo a qualitive transformation once I devour five or even ten wraiths?’
’No wonder Seth was against the idea of me learning about honing willpower... Improving one’s willpower?’
’I wish to see what will happen after devouring everything in this mind swallowing abyss.’ Anon’s heart thumped with excitement, his eyes radiating a healthy glow.
