Chapter 155: A little more hate is vital

The remnant soul was in spectral form. It had a greenish humanoid upper body, and a lower body that streamlined and tapered into a wispy tendril that danced like smoke in the air.

The moment its deathly gaze met with Anon’s, it released an ear-piercing screech and rushed towards him. The distance between the two was crossed almost immediately.

Anon observed its movements, but he did not react.

Firstly, physical attacks had little effect on remnant souls.

Naturally, this remnant soul was simply too weak, so if he truly attacked, the little effect that his attacks had might just be enough.

’However, I did not enter the mind swallowing abyss to slay remnant souls.’ Anon mused.

His eyes glowed faintly and he did not show any signs of resistance, instead allowing the remnant soul to plunge straight into his heart!

Instantly, a wave of emotions welled up in his heart, causing his emotions to stir. Anon’s gaze wavered slightly as he stumbled back.

Ugh...

He groaned with discomfort and frowned deeply. His face twisted into a myriad of expressions, some his own, and others forced to surface from an unfamiliar force.

Anon unconsciously stumbled to the wall nearby and pressed his back against it before sliding down and taking a seat.

As time passed, the turmoil in his heart only grew. It almost felt as if his emotions were ingredients in a boiling pot and they were constantly being stirred by a mysterious force.

Emotions that he didn’t focus on previously, attacked his mind with great ferocity, seeking nothing more than to tear his mind apart.

However, this was but the most ordinary kind of remnant beast.

Time passed.

The intensity at the beginning continuously plummeted as time passed.

Before long, Anon reopened his eyes, releasing a breath of turbid air which revealed faint traces of a demonic green aura.

Slowly rising to his feet, Anon silently made his way deeper into the cave.

’After devouring that remnant soul, the improvement to my own soul is almost unnoticeable. But that’s to be expected to. That remnant soul had too weak of an effect on my soul.’ Anon mused.

One should not misunderstand.

Although the remnant soul had caused Anon’s emotions to stir, that was about all. There was no point in which Anon felt as if his control over himself was slipping.

Though his facial expressions had continuously changed, that was only his expressions. His will hadn’t wavered even slightly.

Before long, Anon made his way to the end of the path. In front of him was an impenetrable wall, there was no longer a path forward.

Anon placed his hand on the cave’s wall and tapped on it with his index finger.

The cave trembled slightly, and a few stones cracked and fell from the ceiling, however the wall remained firm.

Sensing this, Anon sighed and turned around. He gently stretched out his hand and grasped at the air in front of him.

Space seemed to propel him forward, allowing him to step forward once and reach the cavity’s entrance and take in the world of darkness outside.

The darkness had already covered the world outside the mind swallowing abyss. If he truly wished, he could see outside the territory, but his attention was focused toward the depths of the abyss.

Anon stepped onto the empty void and began descending the abyss rapidly. His figure was like a blur as he pierced the darkness and fell towards the depths of hell!

There did not seem to be an end to the darkness.

He casually counted up to thirty seconds before he grasped at the empty dark void. His figure almost instantly came to an abrupt halt.

’The mind swallowing abyss is recorded to have six layers. The first contains ordinary remnant souls within these cavities. In the second layer, I should either find a gathering of remnant souls in a cavity, or a wraith.’

Truthfully speaking, Anon saw these creatures as free resources.

He could not really on magic artifacts because of his damaged spirit, and without the special nature of the drifting rock territory, directly increasing the strength of his physical body was impossible.

However, although the lost land contained many dangers, it was a land of opportunity as well. And this mind swallowing abyss was destined to be swallowed whole by Anon.

At least, this was the ignorant idea floating around in his head.

.....

Inside a cavity within the second layer of the mind swallowing abyss, the air was unnervingly frigid, and there was a stifling aura radiating off the walls of the path.

Outside of the tunnel, on the wall of the abyss, the sounds from within would occasionally escape.

These sounds were high-pitched and chilling to the heart.

Coupled with the environment within, it wasn’t unusual for an ordinary person to suffer from hallucinations and nightmares.

In fact, just being in this kind of environment would be enough to drive ordinary people to the brink of madness.

In the darkness, two gold eyes shone radiantly, refusing to be devoured by the dark sea. These eyes stared intently into the depths of the tunnel.

Therein were six or seven remnant souls attached on the walls and ceiling. They were upside down, observing the foreign figure with strange expressions.

Anon sighed.

He lowered himself and sat cross-legged on the ground.

His eyes suddenly smiled as his deep voice reverberated powerfully through the tunnel, "Aren’t you guys hungry? Why don’t you all come and eat your fill?"

Screech!

As his words fell, the creatures were instantly provoked. Immediately after, they tore apart the distance between themselves and Anon, plunging into his heart with ferocity.

At once, Anon’s body quivered uncontrollably.

Meanwhile, the screech had seemingly alerted the creatures that resided in the very depths of the cave, causing over a dozen remnant souls to turn their attention toward the direction of the cave’s entrance.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

They quickly pierced through the winds and appeared before Anon whose body was trembling from shock.

These creatures danced around Anon, circling him with scrutiny in their eyes and laughing expressions on their faces.

As Anon’s body wriggled in struggle, one by one, they began to plunge themselves into Anon’s heart too!

"Argh!..."

Anon clenched his face. His golden eyes trembled and shrunk to the size of needles as he clenched his fists and slammed them into the ground.

Rumble!

Under such a ferocious force, the tunnel trembled violently as stones and small rocks broke off of the ceiling and fell to the ground.

An overwhelming sense of rage and reluctance clawed away at his heart, causing him to clench his chest with discomfort.

Faintly, he could see blurred images before his eyes. As his gaze landed on them, the emotions he felt intensified greatly.

"D-Damn it!" Anon growled and bit his tongue. His trembling pupils suddenly retained focus and his squirming flesh settled with calm.

He inhaled deeply before exhaling a turbid breath. His eyes were tightly shut whilst veins bulged on his neck and forehead.

Before him, he observed intently as a middle-aged man with a scruffy beard stared at him with intense hatred.

The middle-aged man was impaled by a spear as he bellowed out with rage toward Anon.

He was angry.

How could he not be?

They traversed the lost land together, growing their strength as one, covering each other’s back in the face of adversity.

This was his sworn brother.

So how could he even begin comprehending why he was stabbed in the back?

Only an endless sea of rage remained.

And this was a rightful rage.

Anyone who understood his experiences and had a semblance of a heart would also feel this rage and hatred.

A righteous heart would embrace this rage he felt, because it was a rightful rage. And this unbearable rage was filled with reluctance.

To be unable to do anything as one was betrayed and killed... what was worse than that?

Reluctance! Hatred! Vengeance!

"What does that have to do with me?" Anon’s radiant gold eyes shone brightly as he observed the middle-aged man’s predicament.

Hearing Anon’s words, the middle-aged man’s hateful expression froze.

"You and I are two different existences. You can’t understand me, and vice-versa. Sadly, while it is alright for you to sacrifice yourself for me, it is completely ridiculous for me to go out of my way for you. Just be obediently devoured!"

Anon’s words were simply too unreasonable, leaving the middle-aged man too stunned to react.

By the time he did, it was already too late.

Anon released a breath of turbid air. Flickering within that breath were the faint traces of malevolent aura.

A refreshing sensation welled up in the depths of Anon’s mind as he felt his head clear.

The world before him was devoured by the dark, however he felt as if there was a sun lighting up the place for him.

A soft chuckle escaped his lips.

What vengeance, what hatred.

If he lost himself in such a weak turbulent of emotions, then that would be the greatest joke.

"Betrayal? You trusted wrongfully. Blame no one but yourself. You know nothing about suffering, and your hate is too fickle and weak." Anon sighed.

’Honed by those accursed nightmares for years, to submerge my soul and will with only that little bit of hatred? Tsk, what a joke!’ Anon light shook his head.
