Myriad Devils-Chapter 140: Spear soul
There were traces of a dark aura permeating throughout the surroundings. These traces were very thin wisps of dark aura, however, they carried with them a sharp and ruthless sensation.
Wherever they went, space would be left with barely perceivable scars. Though healed soon after, the fact remained that they had been caused by these unordinary traces of dark aura.
Clang!
Two spears clashed against each other!
One carried a numbing coldness that had formed through pure killing intent and sharpness.
And the other...
At the moment of impact, traces of the dark aura shot out into the nearby vicinity. The head of the second spear could not be seen, and was instead shrouded by this dark aura.
As Anon and Seth retracted their spears, they both retreated several steps, creating a distance between each other.
"Do you not see it?" Seth asked.
Anon frowned.
’See it?’
If it was that dark aura, of course he saw it.
The question remained though, as to what it was.
He replied with a question, "See what?"
"Look carefully!" Seth said in a commanding tone. His eyes were as still as a stagnant lake, and as he manipulated the spear in his hand, the dark aura that it radiated grew in intensity.
The spear in Anon’s hand trembled slightly.
’Huh?’ Anon glanced at the spear in his hand, ’What was that?’ He thought.
But Seth did not give him time to think about it.
Instead, he stomped his front foot into the earth, causing the ground to shatter under this great force, before he propelled himself high into the air!
From the sky, rapidly approaching Anon was a spear submerged in dark aura.
Wherever it went, space was left scarred.
Anon’s heart thumped ferociously.
This was a foreign aura.
It held no resemblance to stellar cosmic energy, and it carried a distinct sensation compared to principle power.
It was not Seth’s demonic nature.
There was a ferocious sharpness that it carried, lacking any mysteries that the magical aura of a principle contained.
This sharp feeling seemed ancient and primal.
As if it was capable of severing any concept that stood in its way!
Anon clenched the spear in his hand tightly as he shot towards Seth. The earth beneath his feet exploded into debris, and a small hole was formed.
In the air above, the two spears met.
Seth thrusted towards Anon with overwhelming power!
On the other hand, Anon angled his spear, so as to offset the force that Seth’s spear had brought.
Still, within a moment, Anon’s face showed a grimace as he was quickly overwhelmed and ruthlessly tossed back by the incredible force.
The cloud severing spear was sent hurling into the air before it embedded into the earth some distance away.
At the same time, Anon’s figure crashed into the earth before he was sent skidding across the drifting rock, causing the stones that jutted out of the lands to explode the moment he came in contact with them.
Seth’s spear was still outstretched as he completed a front flip before landing on the ground.
He slowly rested the spear on his shoulder.
Visibly relaxed, he looked towards Anon in the distance and asked, "Do you see it?"
Anon laid atop rubble that had formed beneath his body. Hearing Seth’s casual demeanor, Anon brows tightened as he released a muffled groan and slowly got up to his feet.

"If you’re speaking about the dark aura, yes Seth, I can see it." Anon’s bones made strange noises as he walked over to his spear.
He glanced at Seth and asked, "Besides that, there’s nothing else to see. You don’t expect me to see through a Top-tier technique at a glance, right?"
Basic techniques could easily be seen through, and in this case, copied. Anon had done so previously, and had even evolved it to suit, seeing it become a High-tier technique.
But that was not impressive.
High-tier techniques were more suited for first world stellar fighters, making it relatively easy for second world stellar fighters to learn and master.
It may be slightly impressive for Anon to technically create one, but Seth had done most of the hard work anyway.
To create a High-tier technique, one needed to at least, surpass mastery over the weapon. Anon had not grasped mastery over the spear, much less reached a stage higher.
Obviously, in the process of analyzing the basic movements, he did, but this was beside the point.
A second world stellar fighter mastering a weapon was common, but surpassing the level of mastery was very rare for them.
Similarly, a third world stellar fighter achieving true mastery over a weapon was rare, and it was expected for most to be above mastery, but just below true mastery.
Achieving what was expected of an individual in a higher world, whilst being in a lower one... this was the essence of a genius.
At this current time, Anon could also be considered a genius for having reached the stage between mastery and true mastery.
Yet, he desired to achieve true mastery!
Naturally, to do this before even entering the third world, when it would already be considered an impressive feat for a third worlder, was quite an unthinkable act to the general public.
However, from the very beginning, Anon lacked any understanding of what was the norm.
And he did not care about it very much.
After all, his path was much greater than the path of someone who only desired to stun others with meager talent, and listen to songs of false praise.
Even if he did not experience the reverence of others, he did not care to.
And it was why he desired to leave sector 2 silently.
Because, at the end of the day, his life was more important than the useless reverence he’d receive after defeating that senior.
...
To see through a Top-tier technique at a glance was especially difficult.
Unlike basic techniques, or High-tier techniques to a certain extent, the fundamentals of any one Top-tier technique could involve a multitude of varying things.
Seth showed a pleasant smile as he heard Anon.
"Of course you can’t see through a Top-tier spear technique. That would take, at least, true mastery over the spear. You’d need to be capable of creating Apex-tier techniques..." Seth had a knowing smile on his face as he said, "But the fact that you can see my spear soul shows that you’re approaching that threshold. To achieve true mastery, you’ll need to develop your own spear soul."
Yanking his cloud severing spear out of the earth, Anon turned to Seth with a deep scowl, "Spear soul?" He repeated those words.
He had never heard of that term before. The moment he heard those words exit Seth’s lips, Anon unconsciously cursed inwardly.
"Spear soul." Seth smiled widened, "Staff soul, sword soul, saber soul, have you not read about it in those books? Well I guess that makes sense. Only third worlders arrive at the threshold of true mastery, so why would they place such information in the books within the tower of knowledge in sector 1 of all places."
’This could just be him spouting nonsense again.’ Anon shook his head.
At the same time, he knew that it did not make sense for Seth to spout useless nothings, but this was the kind of person Seth was.
"Don’t worry. I am not lying to you this time. I’m sure you felt it. When that cloud severing spear felt my spear soul, I’m sure that there was a reaction?" Seth’s eyes lit up as he looked at the cloud severing spear in Anon’s hand.
"It must have felt influenced by my spear soul. I’m sure its eagerly awaiting for you to forge your own spear soul. With it, both of us can compare spear souls." A grin played on Seth’s lips as he said this.
"It will be a pleasuring experience for both us, and these spears." He had said this in a tone that was completely foreign to Anon.
The current look in Seth’s eyes...
’Is this the first time I’ve seen him carry such visible excitement in his eyes?’ Anon mused inwardly.
"Seth!" Anon suddenly called out towards Seth. His tone made Seth’s smiling expression freeze as he met with Anon’s gaze.
"What’s the matter?" He asked.
"So you’ve achieved true mastery, and proclaim to have gone beyond. I’m not interested in an explanation of what it is like beyond true mastery, but all I wish to know is that, why did you not utilize this spear soul, or well, staff soul back in the Blood-Drip Jungle. After all, we were in some hopeless situations on multiple occasions..." Anon’s brows knitted tightly and he continued, "And even recently, here on this drifting rock, you had rather injure your spirit..."
Seth heard this and shook his head.
A smile grew from one ear to the other as his eyes too smiled, and his left hand covered his face.
"Dear Anon," He said smiling, "As I’ve said, I’ve surpassed true mastery, and so too has the lord of the humans. It is only a precaution for the final battle. There are a many great things that you do not know, but that finale battle is rapidly approaching nonetheless. Though you may not be able to even see it, the supreme commander would surely perceive certain things. So I reveal them not."
Anon did not reply.
Instead, Seth continued, "I can reveal more in the Lost Lands. Here, the jurisdiction of the lord of the humans runs thin, and his control over this part of the world is quite slim. You may not know this, but I know all too well."
"Then what about in the last battle? Could you not utilize your spear soul? Or well, staff soul?" Anon frowned.
’Multitasking magical attacks, alongside using my staff soul?’ Seth grimaced, ’This flimsy spirit will shatter.’
Instead, he said out loud, "I know what you do not, and even what the human lord does not." Seth proclaimed with not even an ounce of doubt in his tone.
"Blasphemous!" As he heard these words, Anon’s facial expressions turned noticeably sour.
He appeared greatly offended.
The spear in his hand trembled as his grip tightened in reaction to the words that Seth had so daringly spat out.
"What of which I previously said is blasphemy?!" Seth, for the first time, seemed to truly blurt out with annoyance.
"To be so daring?! Your words! Every one of them is utter blasphemy!!!" Anon took a step towards Seth as he exclaimed out loud.
His front foot slammed into the earth, causing it to quake beneath.
Tch!
"Human!" Seth scowled deeply!
