Myriad Devils-Chapter 132: Drifting Rock Terrain
’Okay?’ Anon repeated inwardly, ’Am I okay?’
His clenched fists relaxed as he turned to Seth and met with the latter’s gaze.
"Yes, I’m fine." Anon said with a smile, though, it was clearly fake.
"In that scenario, I could’ve easily died. To keep my life is a blessing that I am grateful for." Anon said seriously.
Seth’s words had the complete opposite effect of what he desired them to have.
Thanks to them, Anon was able to perceive the mind-numbing frustration that was clouding his thinking, and was therefore able to suppress it.
’Allowing my emotions to cloud my judgement, even in extreme scenarios, is not something I can accept.’ He gritted his teeth and thought internally.
Glancing at Seth, he mused internally, ’Thankfully, he couldn’t help himself, and attempted to gloat in my face, in-turn, assisting me in regaining mental clarity.’
Sigh...
’What use is there in weeping over spilled milk?’ Anon smirked coldly.
He glanced around at his surroundings before taking a second to properly structure his state of mind.
In fact, it was difficult to adjust.
Previously, with his spirit being as powerful as it was, the number of thoughts that he could form in a moment was dozens of times higher than now.
Currently, his thoughts felt so slow that he felt his sanity chipping away.
After thinking for a while, Anon locked eyes with Seth and asked, "How did you appear here? Does that ability have something to do with it? Is this the truth behind Blood Resonance?"
He was quite straightforward with his words.
"What are you talking about?" Seth smiled casually, "As I said before, Blood Resonance creates a connection between the two of us. Naturally, there’s a distance limit to this connection, and so, to prevent the severing of this connection, there are precautions."
He continued by saying, "Because you utilized an Arcane-grade treasure, and because I cannot overpower an Arcane-grade treasure, it was my fleshy body that followed yours, via Blood Resonance."
Anon heard this and squinted his eyes, saying slowly, "And let’s say that you could overpower an Arcane-grade treasure?"
"Then it would be you whose body breaks down into a stream of blood, returning to my side." Seth said this as a matter of fact.
’So is it that neither of us can separate from the other. Aren’t we each other’s prisoner?’ Anon frowned deeply as he thought of this.
Connected by blood?
They were bounded to the other by it.
’Dead mother said that the devil will find ways to make sure that my progression is not hidden from him. Is this one of those precautions?’ Anon thought of this and internally nodded his head in agreement.
Then, he glanced around at his surroundings.
The rock they found themselves on was a hilly terrain. Naturally, within the Drifting Rock Terrain, all of the drifting rocks were similar in appearance, with only the size of each rock being slightly different.
For as far as the eye could see, the drifting rock that Anon and Seth were on was quite uneven, filled with jagged stones that protruded out of the earth, along with moss and other greeneries that grew from these stones.
There was a chilly breeze that blew across the drifting rock, gently grazing the skins of its inhabitants.
Anon closed his eyes and remained silent for a while.
"It is said that there are ten thousand regions within the Lost Lands. In this context, ten thousand is only used as a metaphor to showcase how many regions reside within the Lost Lands. There could be less, or possibly even more. What we do know is that there are many, many regions." Anon still had his eyes closed as he recalled this information.
"And yet, with less than a ten thousandth chance, the wormhole anklets brought us to one of the few regions that I have some information about." Anon smiled as he said this.
"It is an Arcane-grade treasure after all. Maybe it’s capable of locking onto locations that its master already knows of." Seth conveyed.
"Possibly." Anon replied, opening his eyes and meeting with Seth’s gaze, "But it seems that you’re also aware of this region, and the uniqueness of the Drifting Rock Terrain."
"And what makes you say that?" Seth titled his head as he approached one of the nearby stones jutting out of the earth and took a seat.
"Because this scent in the air is quite putrid. Although the breeze is consistent, this scent still remains in the air. This scent is the essence of the low-level beast general that attempted to kill me, is it not?" Anon summarized.
Seth remained silent for a while, but there was a subtle smirk on his face.
"So I assume that you have an idea of what we will be doing from now on?" Anon took his silence as an answer, and asked this. To which, Seth’s smirk only grew.
"It’s like we never left the Blood-Drip Jungle." Seth chuckled out loud.
...
Unique to the Drifting Rock Terrain, besides the countless drifting rocks, was a more intense gravity.
Whilst the gravity on the bottom rocks was not that much greater than earth’s usual gravity, the higher one ascended into the sky via the drifting rocks, the more intense the gravity on these larger drifting rocks became.
Still, when one said that each of the ten thousand regions was akin to an entirely different world, what had been mentioned so far could not warrant such a claim.
Beyond the drifting rocks, and the intense gravity, it was the beasts themselves, born within the drifting rock terrain that made it so unique.
The idea that Anon spoke of involved slaying these beasts and repeating the act that Seth had previously completed.
Within the hearts of these creatures were treasures labeled as essence. Consuming the essence of these beasts brought huge benefits to the fleshy bodies of stellar fighters.
To properly understand these benefits, one must understand that a stellar fighter’s physical body was only strengthened when drawing power from one’s principle.
If they weren’t in the act of drawing power, their physical bodies would be reduced to a ’base’ state.
And this ’base’ state was usually much weaker than the state it entered when drawing power from one’s principle.
This ’base’ state would only become more powerful when a stellar fighter enters a higher world.
As for how much more powerful...
To put it simply, the ’base’ state of a second world stellar fighter’s physical body could be comparable to their fleshy body in the first world after they drew power from their principle.
And as they entered higher worlds, the strength of this ’base’ state also increased.
But the essence of these beasts in the drifting rock terrain allowed a stellar fighter to bypass this law, and directly strengthen the ’base’ state.
’Theoretically speaking, by consuming the essence of these beasts, I could even become a pseudo third world stellar fighter in a very short time.’ Anon mused internally.
With his cultivation base declining, it meant that he needed time to recover the strength of his spirit.
By the time he re-entered the third layer of the second world, it might not be far-fetched that his strongest means of attack would be his physical body.
Of course, this scenario also relied heavily on being capable of slaying stronger beasts to acquire stronger essence.
...
Both Anon and Seth had set out to hunt down the beasts of this region. Whilst Anon was well aware of the benefits, Seth had already experienced it himself.
Still, that was the essence of a low-level beast general.
Beast generals.
Low-level, mid-level, and high-level beast generals.
A good example of a low-level beast general would be the Fleshy Bear King, whilst the Red Ape and the Dreadwing creature could both be considered to be at the mid-level.
As for the high-level...
Well, it was obviously beast generals like the Cinder Fiend.
Consuming the essence of a high-level beast general would naturally result in an unprecedented outcome.
However, the difficulty of acquiring such a creature’s essence was similarly unprecedented.
...
As the duo traversed across the drifting rock, seeking out beast generals, they quickly realized that, much less beast generals, there was a lack of lifeforms in general.
Although Anon had some knowledge of this region, what was documented in the books relating to the Lost Lands, and specifically this region only glossed over the main aspects.
In fact, Anon had deduced that this information would not have been acquired through humans themselves venturing into the drifting rock terrain.
It lacked too many details for that to be the case.
More accurately, it was akin to a piece of technology completing a general scan over this area and picking up the most prominent information.
Anon, who was the son of the supreme commander, and had some understanding over the things of this world, did not doubt that this was in fact how they documented the regions within the Lost Lands.
It was up to the two second world stellar fighters to figure out the true nature of this region!
And as of now, what they had come to realize was that, besides the initial low-level beast general, there was a lack of living organisms atop this particular drifting rock.
They continued there travels across the rock for some time. With Seth drawing power from his principle, he completed most of the search, allowing them to blanket the ten or so miles of the drifting rock.
Because of the landscape of the drifting rock allowed for unobstructed views far across the land, the duo were able to complete this beast search rather swiftly.
When they realized that there was not a single living organism on this drifting rock, naturally, their attentions simultaneously switched to another drifting rock...
Although there was a healthy distance that separated the drifting rocks from each other, because of the sheer amount of rocks that swam through the skies, under the correct circumstances, it was possible to maneuver from one rock to another. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Though the gravity in the drifting rock terrain was more intense than the gravity in the rest of planet Earth, and though Anon was incredibly weakened, Seth was still in the peak of the second world.
Even if he was unable to utilize pure physical strength to traverse between drifting rocks, drawing power from his principle and flying from one rock to another was very much possible.
Both of them had similar unreadable expressions as Seth held Anon by his hand whilst they departed from one of the lowest, weakest, and safest drifting rocks in this region.
