Myriad Devils-Chapter 126: Grasping at knowledge and fortune
"Stare death in the face huh..." Anon’s eyes showed a trace of amusement as he repeated Seth’s words.
Hall of Knowledge!
Such words were etched boldly onto a towering building before him. It was still the early hours of the morning. In fact, soon after completing his breakfast, he went straight to this building.
Anon had assessed his past situations and understood how desperately he needed to expand his knowledge of cultivation and magic, and even concepts such as magic items, mystic treasures, divine weapons, and arts.
In the past, such a lack of knowledge hampered him greatly in how he desired to go about things, and it made him overly reliant on Seth.
At the end of the day, Seth was an enemy.
Though they were united by mutual benefits, with Anon benefitting in the short term, and according to the agreement, Seth’s benefits coming farther into the future, beyond this agreement, after both sides gained every scrap they could from the other, there would be no one on earth capable of stopping Anon from killing Seth.
Naturally, the opposite was the case too.
But even if this was not the case, and even if Seth was an eternal ally, to be reliant on another was not something Anon could accept.
To have a weakness, and to be capable of nullifying this weakness yet not ridding oneself of it...
That is the greatest foolishness!
And as for the conversation with Seth...
After the latter said those words, he refused to reveal anything else.
When Seth became like that, Anon knew that nothing he said would make Seth spit out more information. Instead, if he showed the slightest bit of desperation, it would only bring him more joy.
Joy wasn’t something Anon desired to see on Seth’s face.
’Come to think of it, has he ever shown a pleasant expression whenever I experience something good?’ Anon thought this and sighed.
’What did I ever do to deserve such a hater in my life?’ A smile played on his lips as he thought of this. Though there was a looming threat that he had been warned of, his mind was at ease.
And so, with a relaxed expression, Anon stepped into the hall of knowledge.
...
In this world, the grades of magic items went, Mortal-grade, Sky-grade, Arcane-grade, and Peerless-grade.
It is said that some Arcane-grade treasures are so versatile that it can be of great use to both third and fourth world stellar fighters.
One must understand that there was a great chasm in power separating third and fourth worlders.
But this same concept applied to Peerless-grade treasures as well.
Unlike Arcane-grade treasures though, whilst Peerless-grade treasures could be operated by fourth world stellar fighters, only fifth world stellar fighters could draw out the full prowess of a treasure at this grade.
At the same time, Peerless-grade treasures, or weapons ranked as Peerless-grade were the only grade of treasures capable of evolving a final time.
Simply put, even though an Arcane-grade treasure could become a Peerless-grade treasure under the right situation, it could not surpass the Peerless-grade.
Only a treasure born as a Peerless-grade, could evolve a final time.
That final evolution...
Indeed, only after a treasure reaches the final evolution is it of any use to an Otherworldly Knight.
Only then does it surpass the five worlds!
...
"What Seth spoke of, was utter foolishness." Anon pinched his chin as he observed the contents of a book in his hand. He sat before a table with several books opened, and pages flipping due to a constant flow of wind.
"There is no mention of abilities affecting potential later down the road, or whatnot." Anon shook his head and closed the book. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath in. He didn’t know how much time had passed, but he was within this hall for quite some time.
Amongst the many truths Seth would speak of, he also had a tendency to speak casual lies. Casual, in the sense that, he said it with such certainty that it was impossible to not take him seriously.
Though Anon’s development was crucial to the greater scheme, wickedness appeared to be an inherent trait of Seth.
He simply could not help himself.
...
Profound arts, or magic rituals.
Mystic treasures. Magical items. Divine weapons.
Not just expanding his knowledge of them, but also going over countless recorded weapons, items, and treasures.
More unique than any of them, magic rituals utilized mystic treasures, magical items, and even divine weapons as ingredients.
In fact, because the creation of a magic ritual was no different than developing a puzzle of sorts, there were specialists in this field constantly experimenting with mystic treasures, magical items, and divine weapons, and how these things reacted with one another, to develop new, more potent magic rituals.
Inevitably, although infinite potential reside within all lifeforms, the bridge connecting an existence to this infinite potential was faulty.
Magic rituals strengthened these bridges, so to speak.
More than rare, it is very much possible that only the human lord and the five human generals have bridges so strong, that from the very beginning, they had no need for magic rituals.
...
Beasts.
Not just the beasts within the Blood-Drip Jungle.
Nor only the beasts dominating the lasting lands, the lands conquered by the humans.
But also the beasts outside the boundaries of the Victorious Fighting Country.
The Lost Lands.
The world beyond the Victorious Fighting Country was unlike anything mortals could imagine.
If all life on earth could be said to reside in one massive supercontinent, then the Victorious Fighting Country could be described as a small part of this supercontinent.
It could also be said that, excluding the Paradisical City, the Lasting Lands, claimed by the humans as their territory, was the most mundane piece of this supercontinent.
In the Lost Lands, there are said to be ten thousand regions.
With each region akin to an entirely different world, with their own separate laws and unique beasts, compared to the Lost Lands, the human territory is simply too ordinary.
...
Anon flipped through a great many books.
He spent a total of three days and nights absorbing a world of information.
By the time he left the Hall of Knowledge, his mind was plagued by an extreme exhaustion.
After all, it worked on overdrive for three consecutive days and nights, assessing information, comparing it with what he already knew, with what Seth previously claimed, and finally, developing his future intentions and actions base on this knowledge.
And though he was mentally drained, he did not return to his assigned place of residence.
Instead...
Sector 2, Hall of Treasures
’I believe the Hall of Knowledge holds the same value in all 3 sectors, so there was no need to enter Sector 2 at the time.’ Anon observed the accessory on his wrist.
Since his return to the academy, such simple features like date, and time was finally added. As he was yet to attend a single class, he did not know what the explanation behind this was.
Anyway, it showed 6:00 a.m.
Anon glanced at the entrance of the hall and frowned.
What made him frown wasn’t its simple appearance, but the lack of a certain presence.
’I’m sure I made it very clear that even if I’m not present on the 19th, come back on the 20th at this time. And if not then, on the 21st, 22nd... So where is he?!’ Anon clenched his jaw tightly.
"Hey now, although I’m unable to read minds right now, why do I feel as if you’re cursing me internally?" Seth’s voice was like a demonic whisper that came from behind.
Anon only glanced at him, but he did not reply.
"You must understand how much of a pain it is to enter Sector 2 with year two’s lurking around every corner."
Though third years could not enter Sector 2, and second years could not enter Sector 1, first years could enter Sector 2, and second years could enter Sector 3.
Only, this was quite rare a sight.
After all, if one was slightly unlucky, one would leave a higher sector with a few bruises, and all of their merit points gone...
"It’s only a measly minute." Coupled with his previous statement, when Seth said these words, his tone sounded as if he had experienced an injustice.
It sounded like a child looking at his mother with a wronged expression, and asking; Why are you angry at me, when the fault lies with those despicable bullies?
Although it annoyed Anon, such was Seth’s nature.
"You know, when I do end up killing you, I’ll make it a very painful death." Anon looked Seth in the eye and said this as a matter of fact.
Seth covered his mouth and said with a voice filled with sarcasm, "What’s gotten into you? You’ve never said something so vile directly towards my face before."
Sigh...
"Come, let’s go see what Sector 2’s Hall of Treasures has to offer." Not bestowing Seth with anymore of his energy, Anon stepped into the hall without looking back.
Seth soon followed whilst a grin constantly played on his lips.
...
In fact, thanks to his exploration within the Hall of Knowledge, not only did Anon have an idea of the worth of the many treasures in his possession, he could also recognize the many treasures within Sector 2’s Hall of Treasures.
Whilst the cost of treasures in Sector 1 ranged in the thousands, the necessary merit points needed for treasures that created an effect, and assisted individuals in the second world could reach the tens, and even hundreds of thousands.
However, although the anklets were unsellable, there were still things like the magic pillar, longevity healing gourd and azure plums, not to mention the remaining clear heart crystals that had an effect even on third world stellar fighters...
