Chapter 20: Chapter 20: A Third-rate Tutor

The tutoring session was from 6 PM to 9 PM. Butler Sinclair appeared outside Chester Greene’s office right on time.

Aurora Sinclair slowly packed her schoolbag. Before she left, she gave Alvin Morgan a small glass bottle filled with many small, black pills.

A piece of white adhesive tape was stuck on it, with three words written in pen: throat soothing pills.

Alvin Morgan smiled and clutched the glass bottle in his palm.

Beside him, Benjamin Morgan glanced at the glass bottle, his brows knitting together.

After Aurora Sinclair had left, Benjamin Morgan said with a worried expression, "Young Master, we need to have Beta Morgan test the composition of those pills in your hand first!"

Hearing this, Chester Greene looked up. He was about to say something, but when he thought of the Morgan Family’s situation, he ultimately kept his mouth shut.

Benjamin Morgan’s worry was not without reason. Although the Morgan Family was a top-tier family in Kingsford, at the pinnacle of the pyramid, they also had many enemies. There were plenty of people who wanted to bring the Morgan Family down, so they had to be careful with everything, especially things they ingested.

Alvin Morgan looked at the bottle in his hand, gave him a cool glance, then directly opened the cap, poured out a pill, and popped it into his mouth.

"Young Master—" Benjamin Morgan panicked.

Chester Greene lost his composure as well. "Spit it out, quickly!"

Alvin Morgan was the cornerstone of the lab; nothing could happen to him. Otherwise, Chester Greene wouldn’t be able to atone for it even with his own life.

Chester Greene immediately picked up his phone, ready to call a doctor!

The two of them were so tense, it was as if Alvin Morgan had taken some kind of poison and was about to kick the bucket and meet the King of Hell.

Alvin Morgan tossed the glass bottle to Benjamin Morgan and said with a light chuckle, "I trust her!"

His parched throat felt comfortable, as if it had been soothed by clear water.

The timbre of his voice was a bit brighter than before.

Benjamin Morgan froze for a moment, then looked at the small glass bottle in his hand with a complicated expression.

’Could this medicine actually be effective?’

Alvin Morgan started walking out and said coolly, "If you’re worried, go get it analyzed!"

「The next day」

Aurora Sinclair walked into the classroom slowly, her schoolbag on her back.

The classmates who had greeted her enthusiastically just yesterday now had strange expressions on their faces, and their greetings were much more distant.

Mona Lowell, who sat in front of her, turned around and asked with a smile, "Which family in Kingsford are you from?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

The surrounding students didn’t move, but their ears all perked up.

Her deskmate, Luna Jennings, was also quite surprised. While showing Aurora the notes from when Gloria Alden went over the test yesterday, she asked, "Aurora, so your family really is loaded!"

Aurora Sinclair, with a blank expression, didn’t quite understand what they meant.

Mona Lowell continued to ask, "Of the seven great families I mentioned yesterday, which one are you from?"

Aurora Sinclair thought for a moment, then shook her head.

"Not from one of the seven great families? Then how did you get in here? Don’t tell me you’re some family’s..." Her voice trailed off, not saying the two words "illegitimate daughter."

She even glanced back at Ethan Lowell, who was sitting in the last row.

Although Mona Lowell didn’t say it out loud, Mandy Warren, who was always on good terms with her, understood instantly.

’Ethan Lowell is the illegitimate son of the head of the Lowell Family’s Core Lineage in Kingsford, and his identity only came to light two years ago. This Aurora Sinclair is probably just like him, an illegitimate daughter of a prominent family.’

A trace of contempt appeared in her eyes.

Thanks to Mandy Warren’s deliberate spreading, the rumor that Aurora Sinclair was an illegitimate daughter quietly circulated through Class 6, and was even leaked onto the school forum.

The first class in the morning was Gloria Alden’s physics class.

After seeing Aurora Sinclair, she said pointedly, "If you’re just here to get a diploma, you shouldn’t have come to Kingsford No. 1 High School. You’ll just drag down the class average!"

The students of Class 6 all knew who she was targeting. No one dared to talk back. Only Ethan Lowell, the young master who was genuinely just there for a diploma, slammed his book down with a THWACK.

Gloria Alden was taken aback, but then she remembered there was another little ancestor in the class who was just coasting for a diploma. However, she wasn’t afraid. When the Lowell Family sent him here, someone had specifically instructed that he should be disciplined as needed, and the Lowell Family would take responsibility for any problems.

"Ethan Lowell, do you have a problem with that?"

Ethan Lowell rolled over and put on his headphones. "You’re interrupting my nap!"

The whole class erupted in laughter.

Gloria Alden’s face turned red with anger. She slammed her hand on the lectern a few more times. "No laughing! Don’t you understand classroom discipline?"

Once the class quieted down, she picked up the test papers and began going over the questions. Today, she was explaining the last two major problems in physics.

As Gloria Alden explained, she scanned the students below the podium to see if they were listening attentively. Her eyes swept across the room and landed on Aurora Sinclair, who was flipping through a book that wasn’t a textbook.

Instantly enraged, she threw a piece of chalk at her, but Aurora Sinclair deftly dodged it. The chalk hit the student behind her, who let out a yelp of "OW!", drawing the attention of the surrounding classmates.

"Aurora Sinclair, your grades are so bad, and you’re still reading novels?"

Gloria Alden strode down from the lectern and snatched the book from her hand.

The book wasn’t very thick, but it was wrapped in a pink book cover, on which the single word "Physics" was neatly written.

Gloria Alden continued to sneer, "Putting your clever little tricks to use on everything but your studies! Is a physics textbook this small?"

The students of Class 6 laughed again.

High school textbooks were all large-format; not a single one was this small. Moreover, the size and thickness of the book in Aurora Sinclair’s hand looked very much like a romance novel.

Students who’d had similar experiences naturally knew what was up.

"I’d like to see just what kind of ’physics book’ this is..." Gloria Alden forcefully tore off the book cover, revealing a yellow cover underneath.

Without even looking at it, Gloria Alden held the book up and said sternly to the entire class, "This is the kind of book a student in a graduating class is reading during lessons? This is simply absurd!"

The students in the front naturally couldn’t see, but the students in the back were looking at Gloria Alden with strange expressions.

Alex Warren, ever the pot-stirrer, said, "Mrs. Alden, you should probably look at the cover before you speak!"

"Look at what? It’s just a novel, is it worth..." Gloria Alden’s indignant voice died away the moment she glanced at the words on the cover.

University Physics (Vol. 1)

The classroom fell silent. Seeing this, the students in the front left their seats one after another to look at the book in Gloria Alden’s hand.

That was a rather unexpected face-slap!

Gloria Alden was speechless for a long time, her cheeks burning. But to maintain her image, she still threw the book onto Aurora Sinclair’s desk.

"Don’t be so ambitious with your studies! You only scored a 60 in high school physics, what are you doing reading university physics? Wait until you actually get into a university first!"

After saying her piece, she turned with a stiff expression and went back to the lectern.

Luna Jennings felt that Gloria Alden had gone too far this time. She stood up and argued loudly, "Mrs. Alden, one test score doesn’t mean anything! Besides, Aurora studies very hard..."

"Hard work? Is skipping the evening self-study session after school ’hard work’? Is not paying attention in class and reading... other books ’hard work’?" Gloria Alden had wanted to say "non-coursebooks," but when she remembered it was a university physics textbook, she forced the words back down.

When it came to the evening self-study session, Luna Jennings wasn’t very confident, but she still tried to argue, "Zeke Quincy from Class A doesn’t attend evening self-study either..."

Seeing a student contradict her, and even use her star student as an example, Gloria Alden’s expression changed instantly. She slammed the test papers down and glared at Luna Jennings. "Zeke Quincy’s family hired a private tutor, so it’s understandable that he doesn’t attend the evening sessions!"

"Maybe Aurora’s family hired a tutor too!"

Gloria Alden was at a loss for words. She thought about Aurora Sinclair’s background; it was indeed possible. But not wanting to lose face, she said stubbornly, "Don’t assume that just hiring any random teacher for home tutoring is better than what the school’s teachers can provide!"

Alex Warren had always hated Gloria Alden’s double standards—students with good grades could do no wrong, while students with bad grades could do no right.

He said sarcastically, "You’ve said it all, haven’t you? It’s really tough being a student!"

Hearing that, Gloria Alden’s face, which had just softened slightly, instantly hardened again. She slammed the desk. "Was I wrong? A score of 60 on the entrance exam, not studying properly in class, and reading university physics? Which third-rate tutor taught her to do that? Aren’t I saying this for her own good?"

The class immediately fell silent. The tense atmosphere grew thicker.

As the physics class representative, Mona Lowell turned to look at Aurora Sinclair and said softly, "Mrs. Alden is just looking out for you! The quality of private tutors out there varies greatly. I almost got scammed when I was hiring one myself!"

At this moment, Aurora Sinclair, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly spoke up. "He’s not a scammer!"

Mona Lowell was taken aback for a moment, then smiled. "Sinclair, I don’t mean a scammer who cheats people out of money, but that some tutors will over-hype their credentials and skills, when in reality their teaching ability is very poor!"

After speaking, she gave a pointed look at the university physics book on her desk.

From the lectern, Gloria Alden shot Mona Lowell an approving glance, then sneered at Aurora Sinclair, "After class, call your tutor. I’d like to see just who is teaching you to study like this."

The class continued, but now it was hard to endure.

The minds of the Class 6 students had all flown to the phone call after class. They were getting ready to watch the drama of a Kingsford No. 1 High School physics teacher tearing apart a phony tutor.

Finally, the bell for the end of class rang.

For the first time ever, the students of Class 6 didn’t rush out of the classroom. They all looked at Aurora Sinclair, most of them with eyes that said they were ready to watch a good show and didn’t mind stirring up trouble.

Aurora Sinclair slowly took out a red cell phone and opened her contacts. Gloria Alden, thinking she was too slow, snatched the phone to find the contact herself.

There were only five people in her contact list: Mr. Greene, Morgan, Butler Sinclair, Little Uncle, and Grandpa.

"This Mr. Greene must be your tutor, right?"

Aurora Sinclair nodded.

Gloria Alden directly pressed Mr. Greene’s name and put the call on speakerphone.
