Chapter 82- Jian Sword

"So, what did you do this morning?" Fiona asked as she finally sat down with Elio. "Did you train as you said?"

"Yes, I did. I was also able to increase a few stats because of it, so it was pretty good, if I have to say. I feel a lot more comfortable using energy and manipulating it. It’s a lot better than even yesterday."

"Good. The progress shouldn’t stagnate much for a while longer, so you will keep training daily on that."

"I understand. I won’t stop."

"You will also continue with the second theory book later today. The concepts will get a bit more complex, so you can ask me whenever you get stuck on something." She said. "For now, we will be moving to the next step in training."

"Next step?"

"Yes. We have spent the first 9 days building your foundation and making sure you learn the basics. Now, we will be starting the most important parts of the training. How to actually fight."

"Oh."

"Yes, you will start learning how to fight. But, before that, you will have to choose the weapon you want to learn." Fiona said. "That is a very key part of creating your own style of battle. It is essential to find what suits you best and what you can enjoy training with."

"I see. But, how would I know my style?" He asked.

"Well, it is simple. You are a lean person by nature with a strong center of gravity and a reliance on speed rather than crushing strength. You would do well using swords and spears, and even bows and arrows."

"Mmmm, and how do I choose from all these options?" He asked with a rather apprehensive look on his face. It was hard to truly know what might fit him when the options vary that much. Unless he tries them all and trains with them all, it would be very hard to truly be able to understand his compatibility with every weapon.

However, it was clear Fiona had the solution as she looked at Elio.

"When you have such options, you have to ask yourself one question. What kind of style of fighting do you want?"

"Style of fighting?"

"Do you want to be offensive? Defensive? Do you want to rely on ambushing your targets or facing them head-on? Do you want to be aggressive with crushing strength or nimble and quick so you can dodge better?"

"Ummm..."

"Think about it carefully and tell me what your heart tells you. This is a choice you have to be convinced of and not merely something to use logic in. If your heart doesn’t accept this choice, then you will almost always fail."

"..."

’Another question I must answer with my heart, huh?’ Elio muttered to himself. This wasn’t the first time he had to use his heart to decide rather than logic. It was surprising how much this new world he discovered relies on the heart as an actual tool of guidance. Perhaps it’s because blood is directly related to the heart? Or perhaps with how ambiguous things are, people can only rely on their gut feeling to move forward.

Whether that works or not is irrelevant, as it is a choice someone made so they would never think of regretting it down the way.

"So, what do you want to be? What do you see yourself as?" She asked.

"Ummm..." Elio closed his eyes for a second and tried to dig deep within himself to look for that desire. What does he want to be like? What does he want to achieve? What kind of fighter does he want to be?

Surprisingly, the image formed in his head rather quickly. An image he had from the very first moment he awakened.

"... I..."

"Hm?"

"I want to be the one attacking..." Elio said as he opened his eyes. "I want to be the one who takes the initiative. I want to be aggressive and relentless... I want to never let my opponent even think for a second. A high-intensity rhythm that never stops until they’re defeated. I want to not leave them a single chance to breathe, let alone think about attacking. I want to destroy them."

He spoke, not even realizing the kind of words he was saying. He was simply letting his heart decide, and that was precisely what it wanted.

Fiona frowned subtly as she stared into Elio’s eyes, trying to gauge what he was thinking of. Then, she nodded her head.

"An ultra-aggressive battle style? Hm, I kind of expected you to make that choice." She said with a calm tone. "That is honestly the style I would’ve recommended for you. You have the perfect body for it. You can mix between extreme speed and crushing strength with your build."

Elio had something rare aside from his arsenal of extremely rare talents, and that was his physique. It wasn’t too big to make him too slow and not too small to make him weak. His bones and muscle composition were so perfect for this kind of style.

’His tendons and ligaments are also shockingly flexible with a wide range of motion. No wonder he was able to perform all those moves. His body can do anything.’ She mused.

"Mhm! So, what kind of weapon would fit that style?"

"Hmmm, well, you will need a light weapon to be able to move fast, but also not too light so you can still deliver devastating blows. A weapon that is very flexible and could easily be used with different grips for maximum range of motion. I would say there is only one option."

Fiona said as she suddenly stood up and walked somewhere under Elio’s confused gaze. Then, a minute later, she came back carrying something in her hand.

"A sword?" Elio asked, seeing the shape.

"Not any sword," Fiona said. " This type of sword is called a ’Jian Sword’."

As she explained, she unsheathed it, revealing a beautiful, shiny blade. "A Jian sword is a long sword that is light in weight and has a good range and strength. It is also perfect for intense and heavy Rune usage since its blade balance is almost perfect, so it wouldn’t crack under heavy Energy usage. Something that would benefit you greatly."

"Oh..." Elio stared at the sword with curious eyes. It was clearly a very average one with nothing special about it, but he still felt rather curious.

"Here, hold it and feel it." She said as she handed it to him. The boy took it silently and stared at it. It was indeed quite light, but he still felt like he was carrying something, so the slashes and thrusts would have weight to them.

"This..."

"What do you think?"

"It’s... It’s very nice." Elio said, still in a daze. "I really like how it feels. The grip is nice too. I can definitely work really well with this."

’No, it’s perfect. This is what I imagined my weapon would be like. I think this is it!’ He told himself.

"Well, since you like it... This would be your new weapon, then. The one you will base your entire training around."
