Ethan nodded approvingly with satisfied grin still on his face.
Then suddenly, a car honked at the gates. The sound wasn’t from any of the vehicles in the compound, so he knew immediately who it had to be.
Isabella.
He was going to dismiss his summons when abruptly, he stopped.
"No..." he whispered to himself.
Instead, he turned toward them and said, "Be orderly. Albedo, quit bothering Finn while I go let our visitor in."
It was a command.
Albedo’s face scrunched up in immediate displeasure. "What? But I was just having fun—"
"Albedo," Ethan said firmly.
She groaned dramatically and crossed her arms, while Finn finally stopped and heaved a sigh of relief.
Ethan shook his head and walked toward the gates.
-
Today, Isabella had driven herself. She stepped out of the driver’s seat with a bright smile on her face, already moving forward to embrace him.
But then she stopped midway and grimaced.
"Babe," she said, wrinkling her nose. "You need a shower."
Ethan looked down at himself. He had sweat stains across his shirt and dirty smudges on his arms and face from hours of training.
He chuckled. "I’ve been training."
Isabella shook her head in amusement. "I can tell."
Together, they walked back toward the rear of the manor where he had been doing the said training. And the moment her eyes landed on the three figures standing in the courtyard, she stopped.
Isabella narrowed her eyes slightly and said, "Are these not summons?"
She could tell by the dense mana their bodies by practically made of.
Ethan nodded. "They are."
She glanced at him curiously, then back at the summons. "Do you have a visitor inside the manor?"
She believed these summons belonged to someone else who was visiting.
Ethan shook his head. "They’re mine."
Isabella turned toward him sharply, with surprise on her face.
He nodded again, then said calmly, "So here’s the thing..."
And with that, he dropped the bombshell.
-
About ten minutes later, after thorough explanation and even some showcasing of his abilities with each class, Isabella finally spoke.
"That..." she began slowly, still wrapping her head around everything she had just heard and seen. "...is certainly new."
She looked like she was deep in thought for a moment before raising her hand toward him and adding, "I’ve heard and seen a lot of things in my life, but not that."
Ethan then said sincerely, "I’m telling you this now because I believe you deserve to know. And because my daily life also revolves around developing these classes... which may also require your help."
She looked at him for a second longer, then smiled and nodded. "Of course."
There was a pause before she added thoughtfully, "There’s also something I think you deserve to know too."
She then raised her right hand to reveal the bracelet on her wrist.
Ethan smiled knowingly. "Ah yes, the bracelet with the mysterious story behind it. Do tell."
Isabella smiled back at him, then said, "I’ll tell you, but try not to be scared."
She began removing the bracelet. The very moment it came off, the air around Isabella distorted violently at first.
Then suddenly there was a surge of dark aura that erupted from her body like an explosion of raw power. Black miasma seeped outward from her form in waves, swirling around her ominously.
Ethan’s eyes widened in shock. His entire body felt goosebumps crawl across his skin as an overwhelming sensation washed over him.
He loved Isabella, or at least had strong feelings for her, but why did it feel like an all-consuming darkness was standing before him right now?
In that same moment, his summons reacted instantly.
Albedo’s eyes went wide with terror as she instinctively burst into smoke and reappeared several meters away in pure fear.
Her usual devious grin was gone, and replaced by a look of absolute dread on her face as she stared at Isabella.
Finn took a large leap backward as well with both revolvers drawn but trembling slightly in his small hands while wearing the same frightened look on his face.
Nina reacted differently. Her longsword and shield materialized instantly in her hands as she blitzed forward, placing herself at Ethan’s side the moment she perceived the immediate danger standing before them.
She held her position at his corner with her shield raised, standing protectively between him and the threat. Frankly, she also had that look of terror on her face, but she refused to let the fear she felt come between her and her duty to her liege.
Then it stopped.
The magic power spike went down considerably as Isabella calmly slipped the bracelet back onto her wrist.
Ethan raised one hand gently over Nina’s shield-bearing arm and patted it softly, silently reassuring the summon that everything was okay now.
Nina hesitated for just a moment longer before finally lowering both shield and sword while still keeping herself positioned protectively beside him nonetheless...
Isabella looked up at Ethan with an apologetic smile and said, "It’s still difficult to fully control but, this is my own secret..
..I’m reawakened."

On another part of Grayforte City...
Joe had been driving all morning. And due to his disguise and the inconspicuous car he rode in, no one had made any immediate hostile contact with him.
In fact, he’d passed through several districts without incident. Because of that, he was now approaching the last lanes leaving Grayfort City.
But then he noticed something ahead.
Traffic was building up.
He was still some distance away, but thanks to his peculiar eyesight, a natural perk of the Ranger class that allowed them to see far greater distances than normal people, he could clearly make out why.
Enforcers were stationed around the city’s borders, conducting routine checks on the face of every driver in every vehicle passing through.
It was obvious this was all due to the bounty.
But the enforcers weren’t even the only ones there.
Standing among them was a particular fellow dressed in a clumsy costume: a flowing purple cape that billowed dramatically behind him, and a helmet with red spots in-front that looked like eyes.
He was the hero, Redcape.
In this world, there were people who referred to themselves as heroes.
They weren’t affiliated with guilds and took it upon themselves to collaborate with enforcers to help keep the peace, fight crime, and take down gangs throughout the city.
Redcape was one of them.
"Tch." Joe clicked his tongue in frustration as he spotted the hero from his ridiculous costume, watching closely alongside the enforcers at the checkpoint ahead.
Right then, Joe brought his car to a slow halt.
He glanced left and right quickly, then made a U-turn in the same lane.
This was the wrong lane to do that thing, especially since the next proper U-turn was far too close to both the enforcers and Redcape for comfort.
Unfortunately for Joe, Redcape was a summoner.
And his summon wasn’t standing beside him at the checkpoint.
The summon watched the road from a different vantage point: from a rooftop on the side of the street, scanning every vehicle that approached with sharp eyes.
The moment Joe’s car made that illegal U-turn, the summon’s gaze caught onto that immediately.
That was the wrong place to make a U-turn. Not only was that driver breaking the law, but it also raised all the right suspicions.
"Someone just made a wrong turn," the summon said aloud. "I’m checking it out."
Without hesitation, he dropped from the rooftop.
As he fell through the air, a massive black horse materialized out of thin air beneath him in a burst of dark energy. The beast’s hooves landed hard on the ground as the summon settled into its saddle mid-descent.
The summon raised his sword, pointing it toward Joe’s retreating car. And the horse responded instantly, surging forward with powerful strides as it galloped down the road in pursuit.
What the summon had said was transmitted directly to Redcape through their shared bond.
Redcape’s head turned towards the road immediately as he yelled "I’m coming!"
Right then, the hero abandoned his post at the city borders and sprinted to his nearby bike. He swung a leg over it, revved the engine hard, and zoomed down the opposite lane at full speed toward his summon’s location.
