My Tribrid System: More than a Monster-Chapter 106: A Strange Question (1)
Chapter 104
[Halo Veil Activated]
Bam—!
Booom—!
The ground cracked badly beneath their feet as the claws were stopped, much to the werewolf’s horror and shock.
He stared in absolute confusion at the shimmering white shield, which stood solidly between him and his target, blocking the strike from hitting its mark.
Taking immediate advantage of that stunned silence, Ray spun around in the twinkle of an eye and drove his fist into the werewolf’s face with all his might.
"Ugh..."
The stranger’s face was flung to the side by the impact.
He was almost lifted off his feet, but by digging his heels back down into the dirt, he managed to only stagger a few feet away from the Tribrid.
Pouncing off the balls of his feet, Ray appeared before the werewolf again, this time launching a heavy roundhouse kick.
Regaining his composure just in time, the werewolf quickly lifted his arm to intercept the blow.
’Fuck...’
The werewolf was sent sliding sideways, his arm throbbing in pain as the limb ached badly from the sheer force of the collision.
Ray didn’t give him a single chance to recover; a dozen claw strikes suddenly darted toward the werewolf from every conceivable angle.
Left with no other option, the werewolf swiftly summoned his own set of claws and began clashing rapidly with the incoming strikes.
His movements were fluid and practiced; he was precisely swatting the attacks out of the air like he would do to an annoying fly.
His gaze remained firm and solid throughout the exchange.
The moment he dealt with the last of the strikes, Ray broke through his defense, appearing directly in front of him with a lightning boost.
The moment he bolted forward, a warning message flashed in his field of vision.
[MF: 0/ 50]
He ignored the notification as he jabbed his claws forward, but with even better agility, the strike was blocked by the werewolf’s own talons.
They remained locked in place for a moment, each combatant staring into the other’s eyes with grim determination.
"What do you want with me?" Ray demanded with a loud, guttural snarl.
"...."
There was no reply for a moment, but the answer eventually came in the form of motion.
Swooosh—!
The werewolf’s leg cut through the air in a wide arc, bashing into Ray’s head with devastating force.
[-8 HP]
Ray’s body was lifted clean off the ground and hurled backward.
Refusing to grant him any rest, the werewolf crossed the distance between him and the hurtling Ray within a second.
His claws shot down, aiming for the boy’s torso.
Ray’s eyes slanted as he smoothly flipped his body in mid-air, getting down incredibly low upon landing, which helped him avoid the deadly claws.
In one fluid motion, he swept his leg across the ground in a powerful arc.
The werewolf vaulted into the air for a fleeting moment, causing Ray’s sweeping kick to miss its mark.
’I still have enough energy,’ Ray thought, his teeth gritted.
His claws vibrated for a moment as he crossed them and then quickly hurled them forward, sending a sharp slash of energy towards the airborne werewolf.
It was easily avoided as the wolf sidestepped mid-air with feline grace.
For a split second, the wolf’s gaze flicked toward the disappearing energy wave.
It was a mistake—a minor break in concentration. Ray didn’t let this slide.
He quickly boosted into the air, catching the werewolf completely off guard.
An uppercut cut through the air from below, smashing into the wolf’s jaw with crunching force.
His teeth slammed against each other from the sheer strength of the punch, and saliva was accidentally torn from his mouth.
In one fluid movement, Ray twisted his hip around and landed a devastating roundhouse kick that caused a loud bang to echo through the trees.
The werewolf’s body shot out of the air and smashed into the ground in a flash.
Dust billowed into the night sky, momentarily silencing the loud chirping of the crickets.
Ray landed back on the grass smoothly, his eyes fixed on the settling cloud of dust.
’Damn. Why is my MF so low? If only I had enough, I could have sent a sparkshot into that dust to finish this—’
"You hit like a pillow," the werewolf’s voice echoed from within the haze.
With a loud whoosh, the dust was immediately dispelled by a surge of pressure, revealing the werewolf standing firm, with a thin trail of blood dripping down from his lips.
"... In my short time here, I learnt that humanity is at war against these ape-like creatures.
Now, I don’t know who you are or what you even are. You are truly a strange anomaly. I have never seen a being with the power of a werewolf and that of a human. It almost makes you a... a hybrid?"
****
Ray blinked in sheer confusion at the words of the mysterious werewolf.
The fool was, of course, way, way off the mark.
But still, Ray was caught off guard for a moment as his brows furrowed deeply.
’I guess he could scent the werewolf aura emanating from me. I don’t know if he managed to pick up on the celestial essence or not. Actually, I doubt he did; if he had, he wouldn’t be calling me a simple hybrid.’
"Which makes me wonder, have the humans captured our kind for an experiment? Why does a human possess the power of a werewolf? Who are you, really?" The werewolf asked, his gaze narrowing with suspicion.
’... Isn’t that what you should have asked before attacking an innocent late-night shopper?!’ Ray thought irritably.
The werewolf took Ray’s silence as an unwillingness to respond.
"I see. I don’t know if the humans know about your existence or not, but I want to alleviate a bit of their burden by eliminating a potential future threat."
"Huh?"
Before Ray had the chance to even process those words, the werewolf vanished with astonishing speed, reappearing directly behind him.
The Tribrid was just beginning to turn around when...
Slash—! Slash—!
Two claws struck his back, tearing through the fabric and flesh alike, causing blood to splatter into the night air.
[-15 HP]
"You bas—!" Ray snarled, swinging his hand behind his back despite the searing pain of his injuries.
His elbow was hurtling towards the werewolf’s face, but before the strike could connect,
Bam—! Bam—!
Two consecutive, precise punches landed on his joint—specifically the sensitive flesh just under his elbow—and then a final blow landed squarely on his nose, causing his vision to blur for a painful moment.
When his sight finally cleared, the werewolf was nowhere to be seen.
The next moment, Ray found himself staring up at the vast night sky, the moon shining indifferently back at him.
’What the—? He... I’m laying on my back?’
Wooosh—!
The werewolf’s foot shot towards his face at breakneck speed, ready to shatter his skull, when it suddenly froze mid-motion.
A small current of wind hit Ray in the face as he blinked at the sudden, unexpected hesitation.
He had been ready to call on Bruce to initiate a full transformation, but with the sudden halt, he merely lifted an eyebrow in bewilderment.
"I almost forgot. Before I kill you, I have one last question to ask. Your life depends entirely on the answer you give, so make sure you think things through," the werewolf stated firmly.
’Huh? What is he even yapping about?’
"And my question is," the werewolf continued, not giving Ray a second to even breathe.
His eyes narrowed as his head leaned down further to stare directly into Ray’s.
"What type of women do you like?"
"Huh?!"
