My Toxic Ex-Wife: BOSS, Stay Away!-Chapter 550: After the modification - 558 A Comedy of Errors
When Leng Yixiu woke up, it was already the next day. He slowly opened his eyes and saw the familiar chandelier above him. He rubbed his slightly aching head and couldn’t remember how he got back to the apartment.
At that moment, a familiar female voice suddenly echoed from the master bedroom, "You’re awake? Finally awake, I thought you wouldn’t wake up until noon."
Leng Yixiu followed the voice and looked over, only then realizing there was another person in the master bedroom. He stared at Gu Yilin for a few seconds and frowned, asking, "What are you doing here?"
"What, from your tone it seems I shouldn’t be here?" Gu Yilin pretended to be aggrieved and said, "If I had known you were so heartless, I would have let you sleep on the street last night."
Last night... fragmented pieces flashed through the man’s mind, but he couldn’t piece them together.
"Did you bring me back last night?"
"Of course?" Gu Yilin smiled and suddenly dropped her gaze shyly, saying softly, "You were too much last night!"
As she spoke, Gu Yilin reached for the scarf around her neck and complained, "You were so rough last night that I... I have to wear a scarf out in the middle of summer."
The man’s gaze rested on Gu Yilin’s neck for a few seconds. Smart as he was, he naturally understood what those green and purple marks were. Fragmented images flashed through his mind again, but due to the amount of alcohol he drank, he couldn’t piece them together.
"It was you last night?" The man frowned and asked.
"Who else could it be? What, are you hoping it was another woman?"
"I didn’t mean that, I just can’t quite remember."
"Can’t remember and want to shirk responsibility? You men really have no conscience. It proves that saying true: what you can’t get is the best, but once you get it, you don’t cherish it. Rest assured, if you don’t want to admit it, I won’t force you. We can just cancel our engagement!"
Seeing Gu Yilin’s face full of grievance, yet stubbornly refusing to shed a tear in front of him, Leng Yixiu couldn’t help but think of Lin Yixun from the past. She was like this too, making his originally cold heart soften.
He held Gu Yilin tightly in his arms and gently tapped her nose, "Silly girl, how could you think that way? Since we are already engaged, there’s no reason to cancel it. Besides, our wedding is next month, don’t say such silly things anymore."
"Then why were you so cold to me just now?"
"I was just drunk and not feeling well."
"Alright, then I forgive you." Seeing the man compromise, Gu Yilin decided to let it go.
Actually, she didn’t want to dwell too much on this matter. Leng Yixiu was no fool; if he scrutinized it, she feared he might pick up on some inconsistencies.
Even though the incident had passed, there was still a knot in her heart. Who was the woman who slept with Leng Yixiu last night? If she found that woman, she wouldn’t let her off easily!
After having lunch at the apartment, Gu Yilin left because she had an announcement to make in the afternoon.
After Gu Yilin left, for some reason, Leng Yixiu still asked Sister Yi to confirm last night’s events, "Was it Miss Gu who brought me back last night?"
"Yes, sir."
"Did I... behave strangely?"
Sister Yi recalled for a moment, "There wasn’t anything unusual, just that you were so drunk you didn’t even recognize Little Miss."
The man’s eyes darkened, "Alright, I know. You go ahead and do your work."
...
Shi Yi originally thought that after taking a bath and getting some sleep, everything would return to normal. Unexpectedly, she started to have a fever shortly after falling asleep. She felt hazy and out of sorts all night, sometimes feeling like she was being roasted by a fire, other times like she was in an ice cave.
She remained in this state all night until the next morning, feeling unbearable. Finally, she decided to go out and buy some fever medicine.
She overestimated herself though; she felt weak just walking to the door, struggling for breath. Shi Yi couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Misfortunes never come singly; what’s been happening to her lately? Bad things kept coming one after another. Even her illnesses in the United States weren’t this severe.
She bit her lip and eventually made it out the door. There was a pharmacy at the entrance of the neighborhood, she thought, if she could just hold on a bit more, she’d be fine.
Stumbling all the way, she finally made it downstairs, but as she walked out of the elevator, she unexpectedly collided with a wall of flesh. Already weak, the collision made her see stars.
She grabbed the marble by the elevator entrance and managed to steady herself, feeling very annoyed. Do people not look where they’re walking these days?
She wanted to say something to the person but changed her mind, thinking she was feeling terrible and didn’t want to fuss anymore. Just as she was about to walk past, the person called her.
"Wait!"
The familiar voice made Shi Yi instantly recognize who it was. She slowly looked up and sure enough, saw a very familiar face with a playful smirk.
Ouyang Hao glanced indifferently at Shi Yi’s attire. Seeing her wrapped in a long trench coat, her body covered tightly, he couldn’t help but tease her a bit, "I say, Miss Shi, aren’t you hot in this summer heat? Wrapping yourself up so tightly, are you trying to get a heat rash?"
Some people are just like this; even words that seem caring, when spoken by them, come out with a schadenfreude tone. Ouyang Hao was undoubtedly such a person.
Shi Yi had always been at odds with Ouyang Hao, so hearing him say this, her mood plummeted, "I’ll dress however I want, Mr. Ouyang, you’re overstepping. Unless Mr. Ouyang wants to emulate the United States and be maritime police, minding everything?"
Despite Shi Yi’s retort, Ouyang Hao wasn’t angry. He leaned casually against the elevator door, arms crossed, "Maritime police, I have no interest in that. I’m just kindly reminding you as a neighbor. After all, in this scorching heat, if you get heat rash or heatstroke, it’s not good."
"Thanks for your concern, Mr. Ouyang. I have a strong constitution, I can handle the cold and heat, I won’t get heat rash or heatstroke." Saying this, Shi Yi turned and walked away.
She felt extremely unwell and didn’t have the energy to argue with Ouyang Hao. But after taking only a few steps, she felt dizzy, her vision swirling, and her body collapsed straight toward the floor.
Ouyang Hao initially intended to tease Shi Yi, but when he was about to leave, he saw her sway and then faint.
Quickly, he caught her, his fingers touching her palm. His heart skipped a beat; how was this woman’s palm so hot?
