Chapter 212: Chapter 212: Making Room for Someone Else

Melody Thorne paused in her steps, feeling an increasing sense of suffocation in her chest, and what was once a light heart now felt somewhat heavy.

Jared Quinn’s tall figure lazily leaned against the European-style sofa, propping his chin with one hand, his gaze casually sweeping across her body.

"How is she?" Jared asked, clutching Melody’s wrist. "Is she better than the woman you traded?"

The extremely calm and subtle tone, however, carried a sense of oppression, with a light and meaningful upward inflection at the end, not angry, but just a shallow, profound inquiry.

Melody composed herself and looked up. "She matches you well, both in family background and appearance. She was always meant to be your girlfriend. If you didn’t think she was good enough back then, you wouldn’t have made her your girlfriend. So, there’s no need to ask me now. If your intention is to humiliate me, then congratulations, you’ve succeeded."

With each word Melody said, Jared’s grip on her wrist tightened more, and if he hadn’t controlled his strength, her wrist would’ve been broken by now.

"Mrs. Quinn is indeed gracious," Jared’s sharp gaze darkened.

"You can dump me at any time," Melody felt a heavy weight in her heart. They were even now; if he discarded her, then she would also be free.

Jared’s face grew darker and more contained as he reined in his anger, his large hand tugging her waist towards him, burying his chin into the fragrant softness of her neck, his hand brushing her chest nonchalantly. "How could I? Having such a gracious Mrs. Quinn at home is my fortune. What other woman could be as gracious as you?"

Melody tightly clutched the edge of her dress, understanding what he meant — simply that the legitimate wife was generous and didn’t mind extra mistresses.

"Let go of me," Melody tried to pry his hand off, pushing his head away.

"You’re angry?" Jared’s arm remained wrapped around her, his aristocratic yet alluring face leaned toward her face, occasionally lowering his head to kiss her nape.

"Melody Thorne, say it, are you angry?" He wanted to know what stature he held in her heart.

The chest pressed against Melody’s back was broad and muscular, yet warm and secure, tempting any woman to surrender willingly.

After all, who doesn’t wish for a warm and safe embrace to rely on?

"I’m not angry," Melody lifted her head to prove she wasn’t upset, a smile slowly spreading across her lips. "How could I be angry?"

"Melody Thorne," Jared released her from his embrace. "You will regret it."

Melody turned and went upstairs without a word, silently pulling out a suitcase from the bedroom closet, changing into a dress.

Today marked the third day, with the new film set to start shooting abroad. The flight was at ten o’clock.

Downstairs, Jared stood in place, his eyes burning with unresolved anger.

Melody passed him, tugging her suitcase.

"Where are you going, young lady?" The butler became urgent at the sight.

Melody glanced back at the man standing by the sofa, without mentioning she was heading to the shoot, and softly responded, "Making room for others."

"Woosh," a cold wind instantly spread from Jared’s body, colder than the Arctic, enough to freeze a person to death.

"Ma’am..."

"Ma’am..."

The butler watched helplessly as Melody walked away.

"Young master... this..." Before the butler could finish, Jared had already strode out of the villa.

Melody stood on the roadside with her suitcase, hailing a cab. Nina and the others were already at the airport; she had to hurry.

"Woosh," before she could see clearly, her waist was suddenly tightened as she was swept into the sports car by a pair of large hands, speeding away from the spot.
