My SSS-Rank Grim Reaper System-Chapter 70: Final Preparations
[DAY 7 – LAST DAY – EARLY MORNING]
Alex woke up with the sun just peeking over the horizon.
Last day in Coral Port.
Tomorrow—departure.
He got up quietly, trying not to wake Raven (they were still sharing a room; hers still lacked full furniture).
He failed.
"Already awake?" Raven murmured from the bed, her voice drowsy.
"I didn’t mean to wake you."
"Too late." She stretched—a movement that made the sheets slip, revealing a bare shoulder and part of her nightgown.
Alex quickly looked away.
"I’m going to... shower. We have a long day."
"Mmm. Good idea. I should also—"
She sat up in bed, but the sheet tangled around her legs.
She lost her balance.
Fell forward—
Alex, by instinct, caught her.
And suddenly they were very close.
Raven in his arms. Nightgown askew. Disheveled hair falling over Alex’s face. Green eyes looking directly into his.
"I... sorry," Raven murmured. But she didn’t move.
"It’s... okay," Alex managed. He didn’t move either.
The moment stretched.
Hearts racing.
Faces inches apart.
Alex could feel the warmth of her body. The subtle scent of lavender from her hair.
Raven bit her lower lip unconsciously.
Alex audibly swallowed.
"We should—"
"Yeah, we should—"
The door opened.
Emily entered with a breakfast tray.
She saw the scene—Alex holding Raven, nightgown twisted, a clearly compromising position.
The tray almost slipped from her hands.
"I—what—?" Her cheeks turned red. "Sorry! I didn’t mean to interrupt—I just—breakfast—I—I’M SORRY!"
She hurried out, slamming the door behind her.
Alex and Raven immediately separated.
"That was—"
"Really bad timing," Raven finished, straightening her nightgown. But a small smile played on her lips. "Twice in one week she’s found us like this."
"She’s going to think that—"
"That there’s something between us?"
"...Yeah."
Raven looked directly at him. "Is there?"
A direct question. Honest.
Alex opened his mouth.
Closed it.
"I... I don’t know. What do you think?"
Raven considered. "I think there’s something. I don’t know what. But..." She touched where Alex’s hands had been on her waist. "...definitely something."
"And Emily?"
Raven’s expression changed—something more complicated.
"Emily feels something for you too. It’s obvious."
"That makes things—"
"Complicated. Yeah." Raven stood up, walked toward her wardrobe. "We’ll talk after the trip. When we’re not about to face level 90+ monsters."
"Good idea."
But as Raven changed behind the folding screen, Alex couldn’t help but think:
This is going to blow up eventually.
---
[MARKET DISTRICT – 9 AM]
The team needed serious supplies for three weeks in the wilderness.
First stop: The Armory.
The owner—a dwarf named Thorgrim, level 58, master smith.
"What do you need?" he asked directly.
"Armor. Weapons. The best you have for a three-week trip into the Crystal Mountains," said Alex.
Thorgrim whistled. "Crystal Mountains. Extreme cold. Ice monsters. You’ll need elemental resistance."
He showed options:
[Drake Scale Armor – Level 45]
Defense: +85
Elemental Resistance: +25%
Cost: 8,000 crowns
"Too expensive," Alex muttered.
"Quality costs," Thorgrim grunted.
Raven was trying on light armor—reinforced leather with enchantments.
She turned. "How do I look?"
The armor fit perfectly—accentuating her figure while providing protection.
Alex looked.
Maybe looked too long.
"I... good. You look good. Functional."
Raven smiled—knowing exactly what she was doing.
"Just functional?"
"Very functional."
"Mmm."
Emily, who had been listening from three meters away, clenched her jaw slightly.
She walked over to the mage robe section.
Found one—deep blue with silver enchantments. A design... more revealing than her usual style.
She tried it on, approached.
"Alex? Opinion?"
Alex turned—
And nearly swallowed his tongue.
The robe, while technically appropriate, definitely accentuated... everything.
"I—uh—yeah. It’s. Good. Very. Yeah."
Emily smiled sweetly. "Better than Raven’s armor?"
Alex felt the trap closing.
"They’re... different. Both good. For different purposes."
Diplomatic.
Cowardly, but diplomatic.
Raven and Emily exchanged glances.
Not hostile.
But definitely competitive.
"Master. In. Trouble," Grim murmured from his 80cm form.
"Shut up, Grim."
"Only. Speak. Truth."
They finally bought:
· Drake Scale Armor for Alex (8,000 crowns)
· Enchanted Light Armor for Raven (6,500 crowns)
· Reinforced Mage Robe for Emily (5,000 crowns)
· Various secondary weapons (2,000 crowns)
[Finances: 19,840 → -1,660 crowns]
Wait.
Negative.
"Shit," Alex muttered, checking funds. "We don’t have enough."
"How much short?" asked Raven.
"1,660 crowns."
Thorgrim grunted. "I can give a discount. 15% for a large purchase. That brings the total to 18,175."
[Total with discount: 18,175 crowns]
[Finances: 19,840 → 1,665 crowns remaining]
Better.
"Deal. Thank you."
---
[ALCHEMIST SHOP – 11 AM]
They needed potions. Lots of potions.
Emily’s list:
· Greater Healing Potions × 20 (2,000 crowns)
· Greater Mana Potions × 15 (1,500 crowns)
· Universal Antidotes × 10 (500 crowns)
· Cold Resistance Potions × 10 (600 crowns)
· Emergency Potions (revive from knockout) × 3 (1,200 crowns)
[Total: 5,800 crowns]
Alex looked at remaining funds: 1,665 crowns.
"Not even close."
Emily bit her lip. "We can reduce the quantity—"
"No," a voice interrupted from behind the counter.
The alchemist—an elf woman, level 62, kind expression.
"I heard about the battle. Five hunters. Surrendered. Impressive."
"Thank you, but—"
"And I heard you’re going to the Crystal Mountains. Dangerous journey. A noble cause, I assume."
Alex nodded. "Purification. At the Sanctuary of Dawn."
The elf nodded wisely. "Then take these. A gift."
She pushed all the potions forward.
"But—that’s 5,800 crowns worth of—"
"Consider it an investment in the future. Kill monsters. Come back alive. Buy from me later." She winked. "Living customers are better than dead ones."
"I can’t accept—"
"It’s already done. Out of my shop. I have other customers."
But her smile was genuine.
Alex, Raven, and Emily left with bags full.
"People in Coral Port are amazing," Emily murmured.
"Yeah," Alex agreed. "We’re going to miss this place."
---
[TRAINING GROUNDS – 2 PM]
Sera had lent them the grounds one last time.
"Final training before departure," Alex explained. "Let’s make sure our coordination is perfect."
They started with basic combos.
COMBO 1: SHADOW BARRAGE
Alex using [Shadow Step] repeatedly.
Emily providing [Holy Shield] at each appearance.
Raven controlling skeletons to create openings.
Smooth. Natural. Perfect.
COMBO 2: REAPER’S DANCE
Raven summoning 50 skeletons (not 100—conserving energy).
Alex activating [Reaper’s Aura].
Skeletons receiving buffs.
Perfect coordination.
Then—direct combat training.
Alex vs Raven. No lethal weapons. Just practice.
They started slow.
Blocks. Parries. Calculated movements.
Then Raven accelerated.
A quick strike toward Alex’s shoulder.
Alex blocked—but momentum pushed him back.
Raven pressed the advantage.
A sequence of strikes—fast, precise.
Alex defending.
Then he counterattacked—a leg sweep.
Raven jumped—but Alex anticipated.
He grabbed her ankle mid-air.
Pulled.
Raven fell—
But used momentum, spun, took Alex with her.
Both fell.
Rolled.
They ended with Alex on top of Raven, pinning her down.
Gasping. Sweating. Very close.
Eyes meeting.
"Nice... move," Raven gasped.
"You... too," Alex replied.
Neither moved.
Hearts racing.
Not just from exertion.
Alex’s hands on Raven’s wrists, holding them above her head.
Bodies pressed together.
"Alex..." Raven murmured, her voice lower.
"Yeah?"
"You should... let me go."
"Should."
He didn’t.
"Or..." Raven continued, a small smile playing on her lips, "...you could stay like this."
Alex swallowed.
Faces inches apart.
He could feel Raven’s breath.
See the slight blush on her cheeks.
"Raven, I—"
"WATER!"
Emily appeared with bottles—
She saw the position.
Froze.
Alex and Raven immediately separated.
Like children caught.
Again.
Emily set the bottles on the ground. "Sorry. Again. I clearly have terrible timing."
Her voice was controlled. Too controlled.
"We weren’t—" Alex began.
"Just training," Raven finished, standing up.
"Right. Training." Emily smiled—but it didn’t reach her eyes. "Very... intense."
Tension in the air—thick, uncomfortable.
Alex stood up. "Emily, it’s not what—"
"You don’t need to explain." She interrupted. "I’ll just... take a break. You two continue. Training."
She walked away.
Raven sighed. "This is a disaster."
"Yeah."
"We need to resolve this."
"Yeah."
"After the trip."
"Definitely after the trip."
But they both knew—ignoring it wouldn’t make it disappear.
---
[APARTMENT – 6 PM]
Emily had cooked—an elaborate meal, clearly significant effort.
But the atmosphere was... tense.
They ate in uncomfortable silence.
Finally, Grim—blessed Grim—broke the silence.
"Sexual. Tension. Unbearable. Someone. Say. Something."
Alex nearly spat out his food. "GRIM!"
"What? Is. Truth. Everyone. Feels. It."
Raven laughed despite herself. "He has a point."
Emily also laughed—small but genuine.
The tension broke slightly.
"Alright," said Emily, setting her fork aside. "Let’s talk. Like adults."
"About?" Alex asked cautiously.
"About this. Us. The... situation."
A pause.
"Alex. I feel something for you. It’s obvious. Raven feels something for you. Also obvious. And you..." She looked directly at him. "...what do you feel?"
A direct question.
Honest.
Terrifying.
Alex took a deep breath.
"I feel... something. For both of you. And I know that sounds terrible but—"
"It doesn’t sound terrible," Raven interrupted. "It sounds honest."
"But it also complicates everything," Emily added.
"Yeah."
Silence.
Then Raven spoke—her voice serious.
"Proposal. We survive the trip first. We’ll be three weeks in the wilderness. Monsters level 90+. Let’s focus on that."
"And then..." Emily continued, "...when we come back. Alive. Then we have this conversation. Properly. Without monsters trying to kill us."
"That sounds... reasonable," Alex admitted.
"But," Raven added, looking at Emily, "during the trip—a truce. No competing. No sabotaging each other’s moments. We work as a team."
Emily considered. Then she extended her hand.
"Truce."
Raven shook it. "Truce."
Both looked at Alex.
"And you?" asked Emily. "Can you handle three weeks with two women who admittedly have feelings for you?"
Alex laughed weakly. "Honestly, it sounds like I’m not as dense as I seem. But yeah. I can handle it."
"Doubt. That," Grim murmured.
"Grim, I swear—"
"Just. Being. Honest."
Everyone laughed—the tension finally breaking completely.
---
[NIGHT – 11 PM – ROOFTOP]
Alex couldn’t sleep.
Too many thoughts.
He went up to the rooftop—the place where he had meditated with Raven before.
He found someone already there.
Emily.
Sitting on the edge, looking at the stars.
"Can’t sleep either?" Alex asked, sitting beside her.
"Too nervous. Tomorrow changes everything."
"Yeah."
Comfortable silence.
Then Emily spoke—her voice soft.
"Can I be honest?"
"Always."
"I’m scared. Not of the monsters. Of... losing you. You, Raven. This family we built."
"You won’t lose us."
"You can’t promise that."
"No. But I can promise I’ll fight with everything to make sure we all come back."
Emily leaned against Alex’s shoulder.
"Thank you. For letting me be part of this."
"Thank you for choosing to stay."
They stayed like that—beneath the stars, before the coming storm.
Then—
The rooftop door opened.
Raven.
She saw their position—Alex and Emily together.
"Ah. Sorry. I didn’t mean to—"
"You’re not interrupting," said Emily, but she didn’t move from Alex’s shoulder. "Come. There’s room."
Raven hesitated, then sat on Alex’s other side.
All three together.
Looking at the stars.
"Last night," Raven murmured.
"Last night of peace," Emily agreed.
"Then let’s enjoy it," said Alex.
And they did.
The three together.
A simple moment. Honest. Calm.
Before everything changed.
---
[DAWN]
Alex woke up with the sun just touching the horizon.
Today was the day.
He dressed—new armor, weapons checked, pack packed.
Raven was already ready—practical traveling attire but her Fragment scythe materialized.
Emily organized the last of the medical supplies.
Grim in Awakened form—ready to protect.
Final check:
GEAR:
· New armor (all)
· Secondary weapons (complete)
· Potions × 58 total (complete)
· Rations × 30 days (complete)
· Tents × 2 (complete)
· Cold-resistant blankets × 4 (complete)
· Emergency Communication Crystal (Sera)
· Enchanted Map (Sera)
· Letter of Recommendation (Sera)
· Mummified cookies × 10 (Mrs. Thorne)
FINANCES: 1,665 crowns remaining
Everything ready.
They went down to the street.
A last look at the apartment.
At Coral Port.
At the life they had built here.
"Ready?" asked Alex.
"No," Emily admitted. "But we’re going anyway."
"That’s the right attitude," Raven smiled.
"Adventure. Begins," Grim declared.
Alex looked north—where the Crystal Mountains waited.
Three weeks.
Monsters level 90-130.
Extreme weather.
Constant danger.
And at the end—if they survived—
The Sanctuary of Dawn.
Purification.
Hope.
"Then let’s go," said Alex.
He took the first step.
Northward.
Toward an uncertain destination.
But with family beside him.
And that was enough.
