My SSS-Rank Grim Reaper System-Chapter 65: Fragment Fusion
[GUILD TRAINING GROUNDS - NEXT DAY - 8 AM]
Captain Sera had lent them the private training grounds.
A massive space—a hundred square meters, surrounded by magical barriers designed to contain explosions up to level 60.
"You’ll need this," Sera had said seriously. "If two Fragments interact badly... well, I’d prefer not to have to repair half of Coral Port."
Now, Alex and Raven stood in the center of the field.
Separated by ten meters.
Emily waited outside the barrier, hands ready to cast emergency [Purification] .
Grim (Awakened form) hovered between Alex and Raven, watching.
"Ready?" Alex asked, touching the Fragment mark on his chest.
"As ready as I’ll ever be," Raven replied, flexing her right hand where Fragment 3’s mark glowed faintly.
"Then... on the count of three."
"Wait," Emily interrupted from the barrier. "What exactly are we expecting to happen?"
"I have no idea," Alex admitted.
"Great. Very scientific."
"The system suggested ’possible synergy’," Alex explained. "That’s all I know."
Raven took off her jacket—leaving only the fitted top and skirt from her Fragment attire.
"If we’re doing this, better to go all in."
"Agreed."
Alex removed his shirt too—Fragment 1’s mark on his chest fully visible.
He didn’t like looking at it, but it was a black scar with ancient patterns, pulsing faintly with his heartbeat.
"Alright," Alex said. "On three. Partial activation—30% for both. Not full. We don’t want to explode. At least, I don’t."
"Yet," Raven murmured.
"Yet."
Deep breath.
"One..."
Energy began to accumulate—Alex felt the Fragment stirring inside him.
"Two..."
The mark on Alex’s chest BURNED—a searing but controlled heat.
The mark on Raven’s hand glowed emerald green.
"THREE!"
---
[PARTIAL AWAKENING]
Alex’s eyes glowed—not completely black this time, just crimson rings around normal pupils.
Dark energy emanated from his body—controlled, contained.
[ACTIVE BOOST:]
Strength: 104 → 125 (+20%)
Agility: 110 → 132 (+20%)
[PARTIAL AWAKENING - FRAGMENT 3]
Raven’s eyes glowed emerald green.
Fragment’s scythe materialized—ornate, beautiful.
Her attire fully shifted to the Fragment outfit—corset, cape, garters.
Fifty skeletons emerged from the ground.
For five seconds, nothing happened.
Both activated. Both controlled. Both stable.
"That’s it?" Emily asked, confused. "I thought—"
Then they felt it.
PULL.
Like invisible gravity pulling them.
Not physically.
Energetically.
The Fragments recognized each other.
---
The mark on Alex’s chest began to throb—synchronized with his heartbeat.
The mark on Raven’s hand did the same.
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
Alex’s dark energy and Raven’s green energy began to—
Merge.
Like two rivers converging.
Their auras extended, touching at a midpoint between them.
And when they touched—
[SYSTEM - CRITICAL ALERT]
[FRAGMENT RESONANCE DETECTED!]
[FRAGMENT 1 (CORE) + FRAGMENT 3 (RIGHT HAND)]
[INITIATING ANALYSIS...]
[COMPATIBILITY: 87%]
[SYNERGY: POSSIBLE]
[WARNING: INCREASED ENERGY CONSUMPTION]
[NEW SKILL UNLOCKING...]
A massive amount of energy exploded outward—a shockwave that shook the barriers.
Emily screamed, reinforcing her barrier with mana.
Grim flew backward, barely maintaining stability.
Alex and Raven—
Fell to their knees simultaneously.
Pain shooting through their bodies—but not a bad pain. Was that even possible?
"Alex?" Raven gasped. "What’s—?"
"Why are you asking me? I don’t know... but keep going... don’t fight it..."
They followed instinct.
They let their energies blend.
And then—
CLICK.
Like a lock opening.
[NEW SKILL UNLOCKED]
[FRAGMENT SYNERGY - A-RANK]
DESCRIPTION:
When Fragment 1 (Core) and Fragment 3 (Hand) are simultaneously active within 50 meters, they enter a state of resonance. This creates synergistic effects that amplify both Fragments.
EFFECTS:
· Stat boost: +55% (instead of +20%)
· Shared skills: Both users can partially access each other’s abilities
· Combined army: Skeletons summoned by Fragment 3 receive Fragment 1’s buff (+50% stats)
· Shared energy consumption: Divided between both users
· Mental link: Limited telepathic communication
LIMITATIONS:
· Both users must agree to activation
· Corruption increase: +3% (both)
· Maximum duration: 10 minutes
· Cooldown: 48 hours
WARNING:
Excessive use may create dependency between Fragments. If the bond becomes too strong, separation could be painful or impossible.
---
Alex stood up—feeling... different.
Stronger. Faster.
But also—
He could feel Raven.
Not physically. Mentally.
Her thoughts. Her emotions. Her presence.
Alex? Raven’s voice—directly in his mind.
Raven? Can you hear me?
Yes. This is... weird.
But useful.
Alex looked at his hands—his dark energy swirling, but with traces of emerald green mixed in.
Raven looked at her scythe—the green edge now had black veins.
The fifty skeletons she had summoned—
They changed.
Their eyes turned crimson instead of empty.
Their size increased slightly.
Their movements became more fluid, more lethal.
[Enhanced Skeletons - Level 40 → Level 70]
"Incredible," Raven murmured aloud.
Try using one of my skills, Alex suggested mentally.
How?
Just... think about it. Like it’s yours.
Raven concentrated.
[SHADOW STEP]
She disappeared.
Reappeared ten meters to the left.
"It worked!" she exclaimed. "I used your skill."
Alex smiled. My turn.
He extended his hand.
[NECROMANTIC CONTROL - FRAGMENT 3]
Twenty more skeletons emerged—but these were Alex’s.
He could already do that, but only with skeleton remains. Creating them from nothing was surprising—though they weren’t as refined as Raven’s, they worked.
"Shared control," Alex said, amazed. "We can both summon. Both control."
"Incredible," Grim commented from the distance. "Fragments. Work. Together. Instead. Of. Competing."
Emily lowered the barrier partially.
"How do you feel? Any pain? Loss of control?"
"No," Alex replied. "I feel... good. Better than good. Complete."
"Me too," Raven agreed. "It’s like... a missing piece clicking into place."
They walked toward each other—distance closing.
When they were a meter apart, the energy intensified.
Their auras practically merging.
Your corruption, Raven thought, worried. It increased.
Alex checked his system.
[Corruption: 68% → 71%]
Critical zone reached.
But... it didn’t feel different. He didn’t feel loss of control.
Worth it, he responded mentally. This power... with this, we can win.
Raven nodded.
Then—experimentally—she extended her hand.
Alex took it.
And when their hands touched—
BOOM.
Energy exploded outward—a massive wave that shook the entire field.
Barriers blazed, barely containing it.
But it wasn’t destructive.
It was... harmonious. Or so they believed.
Like two musical notes creating a perfect chord.
---
After maintaining resonance for five minutes, they both released it.
Energy dissipated.
Eyes returned to normal.
Skeletons disappeared.
Alex and Raven collapsed—not injured, just exhausted.
[Alex MP: 490 → 180/490]
[Raven MP: 850 → 320/850]
Emily ran toward them.
"Are you okay?"
"Exhausted," Alex gasped. "But fine."
"That was..." Raven searched for words. "...intense."
"And?" Emily asked. "Does it work? Can you use it in battle?"
Alex and Raven exchanged glances.
Then slow, dangerous smiles.
"Oh yes," Alex said. "Definitely."
"The hunters won’t know what hit them," Raven added.
---
[GUILD MEETING ROOM - AFTERNOON]
Sera had provided a private room to discuss findings.
Alex wrote on a whiteboard:
FRAGMENT SYNERGY - ADVANTAGES:
· Stat boost: +55% (vs +20% alone)
· Shared skills
· Enhanced army (level 70 skeletons)
· Mental communication
· Shared energy consumption
DISADVANTAGES:
· Corruption increase (+3% both)
· Limited duration (10 minutes)
· Long cooldown (48 hours)
· Possible dependency
"So," Emily summarized, "it’s a nuclear weapon. Powerful but costly."
"Exactly," Alex agreed. "We can’t use it casually. Only when we really need it."
"Like against five level 50+ hunters," Raven pointed out.
"Like against five level 50+ hunters," Alex repeated.
Sera, who had been watching silently, spoke.
"Two Reaper Fragments working together. In a thousand years of recorded history, this has never happened."
"Why?" Emily asked.
"Because," Sera explained, "the Fragments were designed to be used by one person. The Reaper. When he was sealed and divided into seven parts, it was assumed each Fragment would seek a different host."
"But Alex has the Core, and Raven has the Hand," Emily said. "Different parts of the same original being."
"Exactly. And apparently..." Sera looked at both of them. "...they recognize that. They want to reunify."
Heavy silence.
"Is it dangerous?" Raven asked. "Long term?"
"I don’t know," Sera admitted. "There’s no precedent. But..." She hesitated. "...I’d recommend caution. If the Fragments start longing to be together constantly..."
She didn’t finish the sentence.
She didn’t need to.
Everyone understood the implication.
Dependency. Inability to function separately.
"Noted," Alex said. "Limited use. Only emergencies."
---
[THAT NIGHT - ROOFTOP - 11 PM]
Alex was trying to sleep.
But his body still hummed with residual resonance energy.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw green veins mixed with black.
He felt Raven’s presence—faintly, like an echo.
Can’t sleep either?
Raven’s voice—directly in his mind.
The mental link apparently hadn’t completely ended.
No. Too much residual energy.
Same here. It’s... annoying.
Pause.
Want to... try meditating together? Sometimes it helps.
Where?
Rooftop. Five minutes.
Alex silently got up, dressed, climbed the stairs to the building’s rooftop.
Raven was already there—sitting cross-legged, looking at the stars.
Wearing only simple pajamas—a t-shirt and shorts.
Her hair loose, flowing in the night breeze.
Alex sat across from her.
"So... meditation?"
"Close your eyes. Breathe. Let the energy settle."
Both closed their eyes.
Breathed in sync.
And—probably because of the residual bond—
Their energies began to resonate again.
Softly this time. Not explosive.
Just... harmonious.
Like two flames dancing together.
Raven opened her eyes. "You feel it?"
"Yeah."
"It’s... pleasant."
"Yeah."
Comfortable silence.
Then Raven—impulsively—moved.
She sat beside Alex instead of in front.
Shoulder to shoulder.
"This helps," she explained. "Physical proximity stabilizes the energy."
"It doesn’t make sense, but I like it," Alex managed to say, very aware of her body heat.
They meditated like that—together, touching, energies softly intertwining.
After thirty minutes, the residual energy finally settled.
But neither moved.
"Alex," Raven eventually said. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"When you used Full Awakening against Kael... what did it feel like? Losing control like that?"
Alex considered.
"Terrifying. Like being in the backseat of your own body. Watching everything but unable to stop it."
"And when you regained control?"
"It felt like... waking up from a nightmare. Except the nightmare was real, and deep down, I wanted to stay there."
Raven nodded slowly.
"I’m scared," she admitted. "That if I use Fragment 3’s Full Awakening... I won’t come back."
"You won’t," Alex said firmly. "You’re thirty-two, your level of discipline and control is high. I’ve only had months. If I could come back, you definitely can."
"How are you so sure?"
"Because I know you. You’re the most disciplined person I’ve ever met."
Raven smiled weakly.
"Thanks."
Silence.
Then—unexpectedly—
Raven rested her head on Alex’s shoulder.
"Just for a moment," she murmured. "Residual energy, remember? Proximity helps."
"R-right. Proximity."
They stayed like that—under the stars, energies entwined, simply existing together.
And for the first time since the battle with Kael—
Alex felt completely at peace.

[NEXT DAY - INTENSIVE TRAINING]
Two days remaining until the hunters’ arrival.
Alex, Raven, Emily, and Grim trained until collapse.
Formations. Coordination. Combos.
COMBO 1: "REAPER’S DANCE"
· Raven summons 100 skeletons
· Alex activates [Reaper’s Aura]
· Skeletons receive massive buff
· Result: Level 50+ army perfectly controlled
COMBO 2: "SHADOW BARRAGE"
· Alex uses [Shadow Step] repeatedly
· Emily provides [Holy Shield] at each appearance
· Raven controls skeletons to create openings
· Result: Alex practically untouchable
COMBO 3: "PURIFICATION STRIKE"
· Alex charges [Necrotic Burst]
· Emily channels [Purification] at the same point
· Opposing energies create massive explosion
· Result: Devastating AOE
They practiced until movements became second nature.
Until they didn’t need to speak.
Just glances. Gestures. Instinct.

[EVENING - APARTMENT]
Emily cooked a special meal—everyone’s favorite dishes.
They ate together, laughing, sharing stories.
As if tomorrow wasn’t a mini-war for them.
After dinner, Mrs. Thorne visited.
She brought cookies (which Grim immediately mummified and collected).
"I heard a battle’s coming for you," she said seriously. "Need any help?"
"Thanks," Alex said. "But no. We don’t want to risk civilians."
Mrs. Thorne studied Alex for a long moment.
Then—surprisingly—she hugged him.
Like a grandmother hugging a grandson.
"Survive, young man. And when this is over..." She looked between Alex, Raven, and Emily. "...decide what you want. Life’s too short to waste on indecision."
Clear message.
Then she left, leaving them in awkward silence.
"She’s... direct," Emily commented.
"Yeah," Alex agreed, blushing.
Raven just smiled into her tea.

[MIDNIGHT]
[HUNTERS DETECTED]
[DISTANCE: 50 KM]
[WILL ARRIVE AT DAWN]
[CONFIRMED COMPOSITION:]
· Kael Darkwind (Level 54)
· Marcus Venn (Level 51)
· Lyra Kane (Level 49)
· Thorne Blackwood (Level 52)
· Aria Solis (Level 50)
[TOTAL: 5 HUNTERS + 5 COMPANIONS]
[ESTIMATED ATTACK TIME: 6 AM]
[FINAL PREPARATIONS RECOMMENDED]
Alex read the alert.
Six hours.
In six hours, war would begin.
He looked at his team—Raven sleeping in her bed, Emily in an extra sleeping bag, Grim silently patrolling.
His family.
Worth fighting for.
Worth dying for if necessary.
But he wouldn’t die.
He would win.
Because he had something the hunters didn’t.
A reason to fight that wasn’t money.
"Tomorrow," he murmured into the darkness, "we show them what happens when you hunt Reaper Fragments."
"We show them why we were sealed by seven Gods."
"We show them terror."
And he slept.
Last night of peace.
Before the storm.
