My Sniper System in a Zombie Apocalypse World-Chapter 149: The Special Agents Arrived
Cindy raised the binoculars to her eyes, scanning the horizon. "I wonder when those special agents will arrive," she murmured.
Isabel shook her head, worry shadowing her features. "I’m more concerned that Sumiko might be looking for us."
Na-rin placed a reassuring hand on Isabel’s shoulder. "It’s okay. Elaine and others won’t leave her be."
Natasha’s gaze turned to Jaxon. "Take a rest first, Jaxon, you didn’t get any sleep last night."
Jaxon nodded, letting himself sink back against the car. He closed his eyes, allowing the faint breeze to brush over him.
Half a day later, Jaxon’s eyes suddenly snapped open. His ears had picked up a faint, almost distant whirring sound.
Natasha noticed him rising. "What is it?" she asked, her hand resting on her pistol instinctively.
Jaxon’s gaze sharpened toward the east. "The chopper... it’s here."
The group moved quickly, checking their gear and readying themselves. Once it landed, they’d have to move toward the city as planned.
Natasha squinted at the horizon. "I don’t see anything," she said, frowning.
"Neither do I," Jaxon replied, "but I’m sure of it. That sound... it’s unmistakably a chopper."
Natasha nodded. "If you say so."
"I thought they’d land right in the city," Isabel said, frowning. "This... this is unexpected."
"Should we go meet them?" Na-rin asked cautiously.
"No," Jaxon shook his head. "We observe first from a safe distance. See how they move. But before that, we need to pinpoint their exact location."
.....
A few kilometers from the city, far enough that the chopper’s rotors barely carried, a single aircraft descended slowly, slicing through the quiet air.
When the skids touched down, five figures stepped out with silent efficiency, three men and two women, each moving like seasoned operatives. Tactical packs hugged their backs, bulging with high-tech gear. Three of the packs were noticeably heavier, packed with compact explosives designed specifically for eliminating infected threats.
At the front, a tall man with a broad back and commanding presence led them. A launcher-like device was strapped to his back, while his reinforced tactical armor, chest and arms armored, held grenades and other utility gear, all meticulously secured.
A faint crackle came through his earpiece, a calm yet commanding voice cutting through the whir of the rotors. "Cade, remember your mission. I expect results from you and your team."
Cade’s reply was calm and almost detached. "Understood. We’ll handle it, same as always."
A brief silence followed, then the voice returned, sharper and colder. "I don’t tolerate failure. Make sure you accomplish your mission." And just like that, the coms went dead.
Cade remained unmoved, he had long grown accustomed to the pressure, the words meant more as reinforcement than warning.
"Why the serious face again, Captain?" a playful voice came from his side.
Lyra walked beside him, a faint grin on her lips. "I was hoping this mission would be fun for once. I’m getting sick of guarding walls all day."
Cade glanced at her briefly. "Lyra, don’t play around this time. You’ve read the report. The infected here have a lot of mutations."
Lyra only gave a lazy salute. "Hai, hai... I got it, Captain."
Her tone was light, but her gear told a different story. Goggles with adaptive lenses rested over her eyes, and small canisters lined her belt and arms. At the same time, a faint chemical scent followed her wherever she moved.
Behind them, the rest of the team walked in silence.
One was tall and lean, a hood and mask hiding most of his face. The name Kael was marked along his arm. His gray eyes swept the surroundings without pause, a silenced carbine held close to his chest, ready at any moment.
Beside him walked Cassian, calm and focused, scanning the distance through a modular sniper rifle.
At the rear was Raya. Her name tag rested against her arm, her build athletic and steady. She wore a fitted tactical top for mobility, with straps across her body holding compact, high-tech explosives. A sleek submachine gun rested against her shoulder as if it weighed nothing.
Cade slowed for a moment, eyes moving across his team, then forward toward the distant city. "Stay sharp," he said with controlled voice. "No mistakes."
Together, they moved as one, advancing toward Ironpoint City.

Minutes later, while Jaxon and the others were still searching for the chopper, his eyes suddenly locked onto something in the distance.
"There," he said, narrowing his gaze. "Mom, head northeast. The chopper came from that direction."
Isabel nodded at once and turned the wheel, guiding the Hilux along the path he pointed out.
They drove for nearly half an hour before Na-rin, who had been quietly observing through the binoculars, suddenly spoke. "I see them."
She peered through the binoculars, but as she focused, her brows slowly drew together.
"What’s wrong?" Natasha asked, noticing the frown forming on Na-rin’s face.
Na-rin didn’t answer as she handed the binoculars over. "Take a look."
Natasha raised them and focused on the direction. A group of people moved steadily along the open road. She blinked, then frowned. "...There are only five of them?"
"What?" Cindy leaned forward. "Let me see."
One by one, they took turns looking through the binoculars and scopes. And each of them saw the same thing, five people, no backup, no vehicles.
"What do we do now?" Cindy said, lowering the binoculars. "I thought they’d send at least a battalion. This doesn’t make any sense... are they trying to get themselves killed?"
The others shared the same thought. Five people against a city full of infected... it didn’t add up.
Isabel shook her head slowly. "If they only sent five, maybe whatever they want here isn’t as important as we thought."
Silence fell over the group.
Jaxon kept his eyes on the distant figures, watching how they moved, how they spread out, how steady their pace was.
After a moment, he spoke. "We follow them first."
The Hilux moved quietly along the road, keeping its distance. They stayed far enough that only Jaxon, with his sharper vision, could keep track of the five agents ahead without being noticed.
