My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 128: Ambush The Culprit
The next morning, as Dennis headed to school with Daisy, he explained everything to her. They had left Destiny at home with Diana, Dahlia, Donna, Deborah, and Daphne, under the watchful eye of Dulcia, whom Dennis had asked to look after the baby. Once Daisy understood his explanation, she spoke up.
"So... you’re sure it was Bella who left Destiny at our door?" Daisy asked.
"Yeah, that’s why we’re talking to Rika today. She’s Bella’s friend, so maybe she has her number. We have to talk to Bella one way or another," Dennis answered.
Daisy looked down, her face appearing a bit sad. Seeing this, Dennis immediately reached out to put his arm around her, but Daisy pulled away, leaving Dennis confused.
"You... don’t want Destiny to stay with us, do you?" Daisy asked.
"Wait, it’s not that. Before deciding anything, I just want to know where Destiny came from," Dennis replied.
"What if she actually turns out to be Bella’s kid?" Daisy asked.
"That’s impossible. But even if it’s true that Destiny is Bella’s child, we have to ask her why she left her at our door. This has nothing to do with whether we want to adopt her or not. You understand what I mean, right?" Dennis answered.
Daisy fell silent for a moment, and Dennis could only walk beside her. But before long, Daisy reached out and took Dennis’s arm, which made him feel a bit relieved since it seemed she finally understood.
"You really just want to know the truth, right? You aren’t trying to get rid of Destiny or get Bella involved with you again?" Daisy asked.
"No... I just want to know. And to be honest, I’m actually angry. Why would she have the heart to leave a newborn at someone else’s door... it truly makes no sense and could be a criminal act if it’s reported," Dennis answered.
"Good, I understand. We’ll talk to Rika later," Daisy replied.
"Thank you, honey," Dennis said.
They walked through the gates and entered the school building. Before going to their own class, they headed to the classroom next door and peeked inside. It turned out Rika had already arrived and was sitting at her desk, seemingly busy chatting with someone on her smartphone. Dennis and Daisy walked straight in and sat down on either side of her, causing Rika to jump in surprise, nearly dropping her phone.
"Good grief! You guys scared the life out of me. What’s up?" Rika asked.
"Rika, are you still in touch with Bella? Daisy and I need to talk to her," Dennis asked bluntly while staring Rika down.
Rika went silent for a moment. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again. Her reaction made Dennis realize that she knew something was going on and had likely been asked by Bella to keep her mouth shut. However, just as Dennis was about to speak, Daisy placed a hand on his and looked at Rika.
"Rika, we just want to know the truth. Yesterday, someone left a newborn baby in front of our apartment door, and the description matches Bella. Do you know anything?" Daisy asked softly, offering a gentle smile.
Rika studied Daisy’s face, then shifted her gaze to Dennis, who looked indifferent but was clearly fuming. She looked back at Daisy again and finally let out a sigh. Her expression turned sour—not at Dennis and Daisy, but likely at Bella for causing yet another scene. Rika looked exhausted from constantly dealing with that particular friend of hers.
"First off, sorry, but I don’t know anything about a baby. However, Bella did call me during break yesterday. She mentioned she wanted to drop something off at your place. She knew you two were moving because she asked me about it before, so she wanted to know if you’d already moved out, and she also asked what time you both get home," Rika explained.
"So that’s how it is. Well... the thing she left at my door was a newborn baby, probably only a day or two old. Her eyes are still closed, and I’m positive it can’t be Bella’s kid, because when she showed up at the reception, she didn’t look like someone who had just given birth," Dennis said.
"Besides, her face doesn’t really look like Bella’s... but then again, who knows, she’s just a baby. All we know for sure is that she’s a girl," Daisy added.
"I see," Rika murmured, lost in thought.
The three of them fell silent again, and the atmosphere grew quiet. The only sound was a few other classmates who had already arrived talking amongst themselves. Then Rika turned to look at Dennis and Daisy once more.
"I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but Bella’s current boyfriend is bad news. She often tells me about how several girls around our age, or even younger, have come to her house claiming they’re pregnant by her guy. But since there’s no proof, Bella ignores them, even though she keeps a close eye on Chris’s every move," Rika said.
"Are you serious?" Dennis asked.
"Yeah, she told me herself," Rika answered.
"Then if that’s the case, why does she stay with that guy?" Dennis asked, confused.
"He’s loaded. He’s a mess, but he’s rich... and you know what Bella is like," Rika replied with a shrug. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Sigh... she really hasn’t changed at all. Even though she’s screwed up time and again. Then when she finally gets a good guy, she cheats. Your friend is really something else," Dennis said, shaking his head.
"She’s your childhood friend too, isn’t she?" Rika noted.
"I don’t know... I feel like my childhood friend, as reckless as she was, wouldn’t do what she’s doing now. I don’t even recognize her anymore... maybe I never really knew her back then, we were just together," Dennis replied firmly.
"Then there’s one more piece of gossip about Chris that Bella told me. She said Chris likes to go out from night until morning, and then suddenly the next day a girl’s body is found by the side of the road with wounds made to look like a monster attack. In the south, that kind of thing is common, but according to Bella, the timing always lines up with Chris going out at night and the news breaking the next day," Rika added.
Dennis and Daisy glanced at each other before turning back to Rika. The three of them fell silent again, trying to process the information hanging in the air. Suddenly, "ding," a message notification popped up on Rika’s smartphone. Rika grabbed it immediately and opened it. Her eyes widened at the message on her screen, and she quickly showed the display to Daisy and Dennis.
It was a message from Bella saying she was leaving the southern region and asking for Rika’s help to stay just one night at her house. She asked Rika to get permission from her husband, Akira, to let her stay.
"Huh... she wants to stay at your place?" Daisy asked.
"It looks that way," Rika answered.
"So, are you going to let her?" Daisy asked.
"I don’t know, let me ask my husband first," Rika answered.
Rika immediately typed a reply to Bella’s message, then opened her chat with her husband to message him as well. A short while later, a response from Akira—who was currently living in the south for guild training with the others—popped up on Rika’s smartphone. Akira said he gave his permission, but if Bella brought any trouble, she should be kicked out immediately. Naturally, Rika replied to her husband, who wasn’t living with her at the moment, but just as she was about to message Bella back, Dennis caught her hand. Rika looked at him, and Daisy turned to watch as well.
"Rika, before you reply to Bella, I need a favor. If I ask Bella to meet up directly, she might not agree since she hasn’t answered my calls or messages. She hasn’t changed her number based on what I see on your phone, so it’s obvious she’s avoiding me and Daisy. So, I have a plan: Daisy and I will drop by your place. Now, tell Akira first that Daisy and I want to visit your house," Dennis said.
"Oh, so you mean we’ll confront Bella there, honey? Sorry, Rika, we’re basically using your place to corner Bella," Daisy said to Rika.
"I get it, it’s fine. I want to know what’s really going on, too," Rika answered.
Then Rika informed Akira about Dennis and Daisy wanting to come over. Of course, Akira gave his permission; in fact, he entrusted Rika to the two of them since he knew exactly what kind of person Bella was. He himself was stuck and couldn’t leave for a year while undergoing training in the south, only able to return home once every three months despite the distance being relatively short.
After that, Rika replied to Bella’s message and said she could stay at her house. Naturally, within just a few seconds, Bella replied to Rika’s message, sending multiple thank-yous along with folded-hand emojis. She seemed to be in a rush and was likely involved in some kind of trouble.
"Alright, after school, Daisy and I are heading to your place," Dennis said.
"Yeah, see you after school," Rika replied.
