My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 758: Double Happiness Comes to the Door_1
The banquet was about to start when Third Young Master Jun arrived fashionably late with Ye Lu.
Congratulations echoed around them, although tinged with discomfort. After all, Third Young Master Jun’s last failed wedding and the imprisonment of his fiancee were not far in the past. And here he was, arm in arm with the woman who had disrupted those very nuptials, the unwed mother of his child. Those in attendance who had been at the wedding viewed Ye Lu with disdain, considering her a homewrecker who had secured her status through pregnancy.
Furthermore, although she bore his child, Ye Lu had no formal connection to Third Young Master Jun. Thus, they felt awkward to congratulate her, uncertain how to address her correctly.
What infuriated them even more was Ye Lu’s haughtiness. She disregarded their attempts at flattery, which annoyed them greatly.
"What’s she so arrogant about? Just because she’s carrying his child? She hasn’t even married into the family yet! There are so many stories of wealthy men who want the child, not the mother."
Ye Lu couldn’t care less about these people’s opinions.
If not out of respect for Old Madam Jun’s kindness, she wouldn’t have bothered to come.
Seemingly unbothered by all the whispering around them, Third Young Master Jun, with Ye Lu’s hand in his, strode across the room—pride incarnate—to Old Madam Jun.
"Grandmother, we’re here. Thank you for hosting this banquet," Third Young Master Jun finally said, with a pleasant smile on his face.
The moment Old Madam Jun saw Ye Lu, her face blossomed into a smile. She immediately pulled Ye Lu over to sit beside her and started inspecting her:
"Let me have a good look at you, haha. Look at that round belly of yours! Surely a sign of a clever and beautiful baby. You’ve worked hard, Ye Lu, carrying not one, but two treasures for our Jun family. Here, this bracelet is for you."
From a small case, Old Madam Jun pulled out a pair of top-tier, perfectly translucent emerald bracelets. The jewels glowed like rippling water, lifelike, with a dazzling green color; anyone could tell they were priceless treasures.
Gasps and exclamations filled the room.
"Wow, that’s the heirloom that was unearthed from an ancient empress’s tomb centuries ago, isn’t it?"
"Oh my God, it must be worth billions at auction."
Ye Lu was stunned. She certainly didn’t expect Old Madam Jun to be so generous. But she realized she couldn’t accept such a gift. Acceptance would equate to selling herself.
"Thank you, Old Madam. But this is too precious. I can’t accept it."
Old Madam Jun chuckled. "Why are you still calling me ’Old Madam’? Call me ’grandmother’. This is merely a token of my affection for you and the baby."
Ye Lu grew even more reluctant to accept the gift. She couldn’t guarantee that her babies would remain part of the Jun family.
Seeing her determined refusal, Third Young Master Jun frowned. He picked up the bracelet and slipped it onto her slender, white wrist.
"If grandmother wants you to have it, you accept it. We don’t want to embarrass her."
Ye could hardly refuse Old Madam Jun in front of everyone.
Once Old Madam started giving gifts, the others couldn’t fall behind. Regardless of their disdain for Ye Lu, they couldn’t offend the woman carrying the only great-grandchild of the Jun family, so they all followed suit.
Ye Lu’s expression turned awkward. The more gifts she received, the more she felt cornered.
"If everyone is giving gifts, I, as the father, cannot be left behind." Jun Shi unexpectedly appeared, a benevolent smile on his face.
Third Young Master Jun looked taken aback, his eyes narrowing. He wasn’t convinced that his father was there to genuinely celebrate.
"This is the key to a new villa." Jun Shi handed Ye Lu a keyring, an odd smile playing on his lips. "My son here has always led a carefree life, his relationships with women often vague. You’ll have to bear with him. But if you ever can’t, perhaps this can offer you a place of refuge."
Third Young Master Jun’s expression darkened to an extreme degree.
"By the way, we have more than one reason to celebrate today, Mother! We’re doubly blessed! Look who I’ve brought with me!" Jun Shi said to Old Madam Jun, smiling, as a handsome young man stepped out from behind him.
"Hello, Grandmother, I am your grandson, Gu Yan." Gu Yan said to Old Madam Jun, his voice brimming with excitement and happiness.
Ye Lu was shocked. Gu Yan was Jun Shi’s son?
That’s all for today. I wish you all a very happy new year, full of laughter. Despite being busy during the festivities, I will try my best to keep updates coming regularly. Please bear with me if the updates are shorter than usual. Much love to you all!
