Chapter 140: – You Are Weak! –

Lucian looked at Nikolas. "You’re in pain and I know that even regardless, you will try to save her. But, Nikolas, you’re very weak under the sun, meaning you’re like an average human right now. Do you know what will happen if you attempt to save her?"

He took the pistol from one of the vampires, aiming it at Viviana’s forehead. "I’ll blow her brains out. So, don’t even think about it. You’ll only just be making things worse for yourself."

"And as for you?" He squatted down and grabbed Viviana harshly by the chin. "You’ll do whatever I want."

Viviana rapidly nodded her head. "I will. I-I will. Please just let him go."

"Hm." Fernando stroked his jaw thoughtfully. "What if I say I want you to belong to me completely? You’d have to severe whatever you have with him. Are you willing?"

Viviana froze up.

Nikolas shouted at her. "Don’t you dare! Don’t you dare do such a thing, Viviana. You belong to me! You are mine and mine alone, and it’s going to be ugly if you try it."

She slowly blinked, turning her gaze toward him. "I’m sorry."

"Viviana—"

"I can’t let you die. I-I can’t let you die just because of me. No. I can’t. I wouldn’t be able to endure it. So, I’m sorry. Y-you’ll have to—"

"Fuck that bullshit!"

He snapped at her so loudly, she jolted. She’d never heard him like this. No, she’d never seen him like this toward her.

"Leave me? Belong to another man? Not as long as I’m alive. It won’t happen! Do you understand me? What the hell do you think you know? So what if I choose to die for you? It’s my fucking choice, do you hear me? You better stay tight right over there and don’t even try that nonsense."

Her lashes flickered at him.

Fernando chuckled at this turn of events. "You’re in so much pain, dying, but your biggest problem is that the woman you love is about to possibly belong to another man?" He looked taken aback. "This is... I don’t get it. What about her makes you so obsessed?"

He laughed. "I understand she’s probably one of the most beautiful women you’d ever meet. But other than that there is nothing else to it. What could you possibly find so gripping about a woman like this? Cold, unfeeling, not in any way warm or even worth approaching?"

Nikolas shot his gaze over to him.

"Shut the fuck up." He spat, "Shut the fuck up. What could a dirty man like you know? You don’t know what it’s like to love a woman? You have no clue what it’s like to look at something and see past their flaws, what you think makes them attractive. Cold, unfeeling? She’s any of that. And maybe you should wonder why you’re undeserving of her warmth. Idiot."

Fernando’s face fell at his words.

"Are you insulting me?" He had grown pissed. "You bastard. Good, good, keep acting tough. It’s only just going to make things worse for you."

"Nikolas..." Viviana stared at her with a begging expression. "This-this is not more important than your life, please. I’m begging you. Let me save you."

"I don’t need you to save me."

Nikolas blatantly refused, eyes filled with stoic adamance.

"I would rather die, I would rather burn to death than watch you give yourself over to another man."

"Then what?" She screamed at him, sobbing harder than she’d never done before, She felt helpless. The more time stalled, the more the smoke was getting worse. "If you die, what would be the point? Will I be happy? Don’t do this to me!"

But Nikolas wasn’t changing his mind.

Fernando sighed dramatically. "How beautiful. I must say I never thought I’d ever see Viviana love someone like this. I mean, this is Viviana we’re talking about. It almost feels like a fever dream. She’s quite a passionate lover contrary to the expectation."

Viviana couldn’t care about his mocking words. She couldn’t stop crying. She hated feeling this helpless. Nikolas was a stubborn man and she knew that once he was this way, there was no changing his mind.

Viviana’s hands balled on the floor as she suddenly had a thought. Fernando was doing all this because of her. So,

’If I... If I kill myself, will all this stop? Will he stop? He’d have no reason to continue this anymore, right?’

The thought flickered in her eyes, and she slowly looked at Nikolas. Fernando held a gun to her head, just like the other vampire behind her did. If she could just grab it quickly and—

A heavy grunt that sounded painful, snapped her out of her drifting thoughts and she quickly looked back at Nikolas.

"Nikolas!" His brother, Lucian shouted.

Nikolas had dropped to his knees on the floor, and spurted out a mouthful of blood, unable to keep himself up any longer. The more he stayed under the sun, the weaker he got.

The sun was the worst toture that a vampire could be put under. Weak vampire died quickly under its administration. But strong ones like him, his brother and his mother. Even Tasso. The sun took its time with them. Killing them slowly, burning them from the inside before the outside.

And if it continued this way, his system was going to fail.

No one except Lucian knew the level of pain Nikolas was in. Any other person would have been screaming and acting as if they’d gone mad. But Nikolas, the man stood, refusing to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing him in absolute misery.

He was enduring the pain like no one ever had.

"Nikolas," Lucian was unable to endure it anymore. Maybe he couldn’t feel the physical pain he was in, but he was in pain nonetheless. "Let me help you, let me—"

Nikolas spurted out another mouthful of blood, this time coughing so hard, his hand clutched his chest. His system was failing and if this continued... If this continued, he was going to—

Lucian was ready to run out there, uncaring that he was going to be in the very same predicament and as if Nikolas saw it coming, he yelled at him, "Don’t you even think about it!"

"Nikolas—"

"Stay back, Lucian!" Nikolas glared at him. His face had gone deathly pale, and his eyes were losing its bright green light, turning darker and darker with every passing moment.
