Sabrina was already on her last breath, and doing this, only brought her closer to the edge. "Let...her go." Her bones had weakened, she couldn’t really hold onto him anymore, but she did anyway, refusing to give up on Viviana.

The only woman who befriended an orphan like her. The only girl in school who would sit with her at lunch regardless of the difference in their status. The only person who loved her so dearly, ready to go to the ends of the world for her. Kids bullied her for having no parents, for having nothing and being a lowlife, who survived on the last remaining wealth her parents left behind for her.

But there was only one person who came to her aid every single time. The only person who protected her, stood up for her, even fought for her, knowing her strict father would punish her for doing what a daughter of a man of his status shouldn’t.

Viviana didn’t smile much, but she smiled at her. She was cold even in high school, but she showed her affection she wouldn’t show others. It was strange. Why ever would a girl like her want to befriend someone as low as her? If she wanted friends, they were so easy to get, and in such a place like high school where power play was everything.

So many students wanted to befriend her, but she never paid any heed to them. Yet, she, the orphan and ostracized a student who no one wanted—who sat alone at lunch everyday; She’d walked up to her and took a seat, saying, "I want you to be my friend."

Sabrina would laugh at the recollection if she could, but she was mentally aware that this was her life flashing too quickly before her eyes. She was dying.

And sure enough, she could no longer open her eyes. She couldn’t see anymore. The only thing she could feel was where she held the man, trying to keep him from leaving.

The man, in an act of frustrated rage, kicked her so hard that after that, Sabrina couldn’t move anymore. She could only lie there, her body feeling paralyzed, hearing nothing but his footsteps as he took Viviana away.

Someone was sprinting along the roof of buildings. His almost whitish eyes were blown wide, his heart pounding too loudly, he felt like he couldn’t hear anything anymore.

"What the hell is going on?"

He could feel her. He could feel that flickering like a torchlight which had ignited the second they zinged going off. It was like a candle light and there was barely a few minutes before it burned out.

"Damn it! Where the heck are you..." His words trailed off.

He stopped at a particular roof and glancing down, he found her, the human he’d just met a few days ago, on the concrete floor in her own pool of blood.

Tasso Grimaldi’s eyes darkened, red pooling over them and covering his beautiful iris. He jumped off the roof without a second thought, landing on his feet. He was over at Sabrina in the blink of a touchlight, bending to touch her nose. She was still alive, despite having lost so much blood, and—

Tasso quickly took a step back.

He felt dizzy, staring at so much blood. He found it hard to look away from it and his gum began itching, Adam’s apple bouncing as he swallowed over and over again. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

’Get yourself together’ He mentally snapped at himself.

He moved closer to Sabrina again, and this time around, he carefully lifted her up into his arms, gaze fixed on her pale face. "Couldn’t even stay safe two days after I’ve met you, huh?"

His gaze shifted to the direction the man who’d shot her went. A murderous intent surrounded him instantly and a dark light shone in his eyes. "I’ll find you, and I will kill you. Run for now."

A gust of wind blew from up his feet as he shot up into the air, landing on a rooftop. He began to sprint at the peak of his speed, and as he did, he lowered his gaze to Sabrina who was breathing heavily. He’d made a quick move to cover her with his coat, clicking his tongue in frustration. "Come on now, sugar, you’ve got to keep breathing. Don’t think of dying on me now. I came here for you, keep breathing."

Nikolas paced his penthouse. He looked a mess, hair uncombed and eyes dimmed from restlessness.

Viviana hadn’t called him. He’d been trying to reach Sabrina as well, but she wasn’t answering.

It was almost seven in the evening now and nothing had come through. He had no clue what was going on.

Unlike Tasso, he hadn’t zinged with Viviana as she wasn’t his mate. Therefore, he had no light flickering inside of him for her. Had there been a light, he could tell when she was in danger and when she wasn’t. Especially if she was hurt, because the light would begin burning out at a rapid pace.

Unbable to take it anymore, Nikolas snatched his coat from the bed, slipping into it. If he can’t tell, then he would just have to find out for himself. He knew where she would mostly be and he could begin from—

His phone rang out loudly.

He paused and lowered his eyes to the screen of his phone on the bed.

—UNKNOWN CALLER—

Nikolas stared at it.

That bad feeling inside of him was intensifying. Nikolas wasn’t someone who’d ever felt fear before. But right at this moment, his chest was pounding in fear, beads of sweat were rolling down his forehead.

He picked up the phone and answered the call.

There was silence on the other side for a moment before someone chuckled.

[Nikolas...Right?]

He couldn’t recognize the voice because whoever it was had used a voice changer to call him.

[By now, I’m sure you must be wondering where your wife is. You’re restless, aren’t you?]

"Who are you?"

[You want her? I’ll give her back to you. But you’ll sadly have to come get her yourself. I’ll send you an address now and I want you here in under twenty four hours, Nikolas. Otherwise, I’ll have her bloody and dead, and I’ll make sure to take a picture and send it to you]

"If you hurt her..."

Nikolas’s eyes darkened with a bloody red.

"I will kill you. I will find you. And nothing on this earth will stop me."
