My Mysterious Hidden Husband-Chapter 470: Grandpa Is Sick
Sheila Yardley’s hesitation and silence dimmed the starlight in Peach’s eyes, and she asked with a choked voice, "Elaine, do you not like me?"
Sheila Yardley quickly shook her head, reaching out to wipe away the tears at the corners of Peach’s eyes, "I really like Peach, really, really like you."
"So, do you not like my dad?"
"Peach, things between adults are sometimes not as simple as you think. Your dad and I won’t be together, but as long as you want to see me, you can call me anytime, and I will still take you out to play, alright?"
However, Peach pouted, tears streaming down her face, and said with grievance, "But like that, I still don’t have a mom."
Sheila Yardley looked up at the sky, unable to stop the tears from falling. She quickly wiped them away with her sleeve, trying her best to soothe the child with a smile, "Your dad will surely find you a wonderful mom in the future."
"But I just want you to be my mom."
Sheila Yardley took a deep breath and asked Peach, "So if you could only choose one between your dad and me, who would it be?"
With tears still hanging on her lashes, Peach looked at Sheila Yardley with big, watery eyes and said, "I want both."
Looking at the child’s aggrieved expression, Sheila Yardley’s heart broke, and she hugged the child tightly in her arms.
Even though she tried hard to control her emotions, the moment she closed her eyes, tears still trickled down her face.
Across the street, the man silently drooped his eyes and turned away with a forlorn expression.
He didn’t know if there was anything he could do to salvage it all. He was even afraid that the next time he sees her, she’d be giving him a wedding invitation.
...
The Spring Festival was drawing near, and the vibrant festive atmosphere had already filled the streets and alleys.
Landon Sutton pushed the shopping cart alongside Shannon Quinn as they stocked up on New Year supplies at the supermarket.
From small decorative items to gifts and snacks, item after item, they slowly filled the shopping cart without noticing it.
"Honey, what New Year’s gift do you want?"
Landon Sutton gave her a glance and said, "Who directly asks someone what gift they want?"
Shannon Quinn responded, "I’ve given you everything you’re supposed to get; I feel like you lack nothing. Do you have any interests I don’t know about?"
Landon Sutton replied, "I do, indeed."
Curious, Shannon Quinn asked, "What is it?"
Landon Sutton mischievously glanced at her belly, smiled, and said, "You can’t do it now, though."
It took Shannon Quinn a moment to realize, and she rolled her eyes at him, saying, "You’re so improper; you’re not getting any gifts."
With a gentle smile, Landon Sutton wrapped his arm around her waist, saying, "Anything you give, how could I not like it?"
Shannon Quinn huffed and turned her head away. Just as Landon Sutton was about to coax her, his phone rang in his pocket.
Shannon Quinn paused along with him, and when he took out his phone, she caught a glance: it was a call from the family butler.
Once he answered, he heard the urgency in the voice on the other end. Shannon Quinn couldn’t hear clearly, but she saw Landon Sutton’s expression darken as he said, "Alright, I’ll be there right away."
After hanging up, Landon Sutton told Shannon Quinn, "We don’t have time to shop today; let’s go check out first."
Noticing his anxious demeanor, Shannon Quinn quickly asked, "What happened?"
As he pushed the shopping cart with one hand and guided Shannon Quinn toward the checkout, he said, "Grandpa had an accident and is in the hospital undergoing emergency treatment."
Shannon Quinn was momentarily stunned, hurriedly pushing the shopping cart aside, saying, "Forget checking out, we’ll have to queue. Let’s just go directly, is it serious?"
"I don’t know the exact situation yet, I’ll call my brother to find out where he is."
Simon Rhodes, who was at the hospital with Susan Wilde for a prenatal check-up, hurried over as soon as he got the call to understand the situation.
When Landon Sutton arrived, he saw a doctor speaking with Simon Rhodes, who then returned to the emergency room.
"How’s Grandpa? What did the doctor say?"
From Simon Rhodes’s expression, it seemed the situation wasn’t very optimistic. He said, "The doctor mentioned a myocardial infarction. Although he’s out of immediate danger, things remain critical, and he needs surgery soon, but given his age, it’s uncertain if he’ll pull through."
Landon Sutton took a deep breath, pretending to be relaxed, and said, "He’ll be alright; the old man is tough."
Shannon Quinn tightly held his hand, knowing that internally, he was just as uneasy.
Saying such words was more about comforting himself.
Their parents passed away when they were young; it was their grandfather who raised the two brothers. Although sometimes stubborn and overbearing, it was always for their benefit.
After spending so much time with the old man, they’d long discovered how endearing he actually was, and no one wanted anything bad to happen to him.
Restlessly waiting outside the emergency room, they watched as doctors and nurses went in and out.
"Vincent, you should take Shannon back first. I’ll stay here and call you if anything happens."
Landon Sutton didn’t nod, instead looking at Shannon Quinn beside him, asking her, "Are you tired? If you are, I’ll call the driver to take you home."
Shannon Quinn shook her head, extending her hand to grasp his, saying, "Before, whenever something happened, you were always there for me; now it’s my turn to be with you."
"Why are you speaking like we’re separate when we’re not? You staying here is doing nothing, you’ll make me feel better resting back home."
Shannon Quinn knew he was just being stubborn to avoid worrying her, so she said, "He’s not just your grandpa, you know."
Simon Rhodes chuckled, saying, "Alright, stop arguing. Regardless, lunch is still a necessity. Vincent, why don’t you take Shannon out to eat nearby? We can endure hunger for hours, but a pregnant person can’t."
"By the way, Mr. Rhodes, where’s Skylar?"
"Skylar is probably still downstairs for the check-up, she hasn’t called, mustn’t be finished yet."
Shannon Quinn got up, saying, "I’ll go downstairs to check, once the check-up is done, we can get something to eat outside and bring some back for both of you."
Landon Sutton cautioned, "Don’t wander too far; there are plenty of restaurants just across the hospital."
"Got it, remember to call me if there’s any news about Grandpa. We’ll be quick."
When Shannon Quinn found Susan Wilde downstairs, she had just received the check-up results.
"Shannon, did you come for a check-up too?"
"No, I came to find you."
"Do you know about Grandpa? I was just about to go check on him."
"I just came down from upstairs. Grandpa is still in surgery; the brothers are waiting upstairs. I came to find you to go eat downstairs, then we can bring some food back for them. How was your check-up, by the way?"
Susan Wilde joyfully smiled, saying, "The doctor said it’s twins. They just discovered it this time. Everything is still normal, but I need to pay more attention to my diet and rest because my liver is slightly not keeping up, though I’ve gained ten pounds recently."
"Twins?! Then gaining ten pounds is normal; Simon will surely pamper you even more with good food."
