Chapter 50: Chapter 50 Elevator

"I’ve ordered breakfast for you, and I have to rush to work," I said.

That’s how the adult world was—what seemed wild at night faded by morning, and we were all bound by various rules once again.

"Okay, take care on the way," Lucy said.

Leaving the room, I messaged Edward and George, then hailed a cab straight to the office.

Upon entering the office, I felt many eyes on me, from old colleagues in the marketing department to many unfamiliar female colleagues.

While in the elevator, I coincidentally ran into Grace and Melody!

Morning elevators were always crowded, and everyone squeezed in. But seeing Grace and Melody in the midst of the crowd, I pushed through and pulled them over.

Turning my back, I placed my hands on the elevator wall, protecting them in the middle to avoid any unwanted advances.

Grace’s eyes lit up, and she said, "William, what a surprise to see you here!"

Melody furrowed her brows, asking, "William, what are you trying to do?"

"The elevator is too crowded, I couldn’t bear to see you both squeezed in," I replied.

"Put your hands down." Melody turned her head and said, "I don’t like this."

I didn’t listen to her. This woman was inconsistent. I admit our current posture with the two of them was ambiguous, but the protective effect was top-notch.

The men in the elevator cast jealous glances at me.

"Just endure it for a few minutes."

I smiled, and at that moment, Grace exclaimed, "William, are you wearing Versace? And your bag, is that also Versace? Your watch, Longines? When did you become so rich?"

Grace’s exclamation drew everyone’s attention in the elevator.

I chuckled and said, "Men, you know, need to be kind to themselves once in a while!"

"This isn’t just treating yourself well. It’s spoiling yourself!"

Grace checked on her phone, saying, "This whole outfit must cost at least thirty to forty grand!"

At that moment, a disdainful voice came from the corner of the elevator. "Looks like a knockoff. Versace, Chanel, Hermès are easy to fake. Longines? Please, I’m wearing a Vacheron Constantin."

A man raised his left hand, and a few female colleagues couldn’t help but smirk.

His name was Brandon. He was a close friend of Philip, and like Philip, this guy had a hobby of playing around with female colleagues and clients.

He was quite good-looking.

Grace furrowed her brows, saying, "Brandon, what are you saying?"

"Grace, does what I say concern you?"

He sneered. "Isn’t he just a loser who could never afford the real deal?"

"William isn’t a loser. He just closed the biggest deal for our company!"

"What deal did he land? That was snatched from Philip!"

Brandon sneered, "Everyone sees it clearly. Who doesn’t know? He intercepted it midway. How shameless of him!"

I understood finally—this guy was sticking up for Philip.

"If you have any dignity, just give the deal back to Philip, then maybe I’ll respect you a bit more!"

I laughed. "What are you? Why would I need your respect?"

"What did you say?"

Brandon widened his eyes, saying angrily, "Do you have the guts to repeat what you just said?"

I pretended to clean my ears, saying, "I’ve seen people being pathetic, but I’ve never seen someone as pathetic as you. Since you want to hear it, I’ll say it again."

"I said, Brandon, what are you? I don’t need your respect!"

"You..."

"What about me? Do you want to start something?"

I stood at 6’7", muscular, while he was barely 5’7", skinny.

I wouldn’t even need a second punch to take him down!

Knowing he couldn’t take me on, he resorted to taunting. "William, you’re shameless for boldly swiping a deal from a teammate!"

As he spoke, many people’s gazes turned towards me, filled with disdain.

He continued, "You’re just scum. Melody is also here today. May I ask if you are really allowing your team members to snatch deals from each other?"

All eyes turned to Melody, and Brandon pushed further, "Although this is an internal matter for your team, actions have consequences. I hope Melody can explain this crooked behavior to us and put a stop to it!"

Melody frowned. "Explain what? How did William get this order? Everyone saw what happened. Don’t tell me you weren’t in the company that day!"

Brandon said, "Melody, I did see it, but the fact remains he intercepted it."

"Do I need to explain to you how I work? Mind your own business, and also, watch your status."

Deep down, Melody was a very proud person. Now, being questioned in front of so many people—it could be said that Brandon must have lost his mind.

"Brandon, what’s your problem with me? This has nothing to do with Melody."

I turned around and firmly shielded her behind me. How could I miss such a good opportunity?

Brandon’s face twisted in frustration. "Anyway, I just can’t accept it. Even though I’m just an ordinary employee, what’s the point if everyone is poaching orders from each other? We could just sit back and wait for colleagues to place orders every day."

His words struck a chord with some colleagues in the marketing department. One of them chimed in, "Exactly, the clients we worked so hard to find, are they just going to be taken away?"

"This is really unethical," another one added.

With the growing support, Brandon became more emboldened. "You’re just a waste. Everyone in the company knows that, right? Poaching orders and feeling superior, huh? You’re just trash, a person with a corrupt character!"

He continued, "Everyone, be careful, stay away from people like him. He might sneakily take away your clients without you even realizing."

As the words fell, I noticed one of the colleagues from the marketing department quickly close his phone, looking at me warily, saying, "Why are you eavesdropping on my conversations with clients? Are you trying to steal my clients?"

Before I could speak, Brandon interjected again, "Look, this scum is so audacious in poaching orders, daring to do such despicable things in front of everyone!"

I laughed in anger. Provocations and insults repeatedly, even with a good temper, I couldn’t bear it anymore.

"You said I’m poaching orders. What would you say if I were to secure a big deal?"

Brandon smirked coldly. "Just you? Secure a big deal, how big of a deal?"

"A multimillion-dollar deal!" I replied.

Brandon burst into laughter, joined by others around him.

"Oh, this is hilarious. A poaching scum thinks he’s the sales champion."

"He probably believes his own hype."
