Chapter 69: Nine Veil Fox Martial Legacy

[Invocation:: Devil Fox Skill Unlocked]

"Just twenty points?" Damian stared at the ability suspiciously.

The system was not known for being generous. He usually spent no less than fifty points to obtain a new skill, yet here it was offering one for only twenty.

"Nah... the talent is either crap, or it’s the kind of skill that causes more trouble than it’s worth," Damian concluded, and unsurprisingly, he was right.

[Name: Invocation: Devil Fox]

[Type: Transformation]

[Description: Replacing your mortal heart with your devil heart, replacing your blood with demonic force, you can reach deeper into the true source of your demonic heritage to strengthen your abilities threefold, but at the cost of your sanity. Use wisely.]

Heh!

A small chuckle escaped Damian’s lips as he stared at the description with an amused look. Imagine the system warning him about how to use an ability. It was obvious the backlash was far more serious than the "small insanity" the system was trying to suggest.

"But then again, it’s alright for a final stand skill. That way I won’t have to rely on the Abyss if I find myself in a sticky situation. I can just triple my power and run mad, hoping my wives give me the mental care I’ll need." He rolled his eyes, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

He was not sure how to feel about the ability.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Damian continued investing more points into his Living Arts. It did not take long before he invested the fiftieth point, leaving him with forty-five talent points remaining and still no new ability.

"I got you to thirteen percent. The least you can do is give me something after handing me that suicidal skill!" he complained.

Damian needed nearly fifty levels to accumulate this many talent points. Every wasted use hurt as much as a gunshot through bone.

"I’ll give it twenty more. Let’s get it to fifteen percent."

The decision was risky, but Damian chose to take the chance. If he dedicated the remainder of his points, he would not be able to bring the other stats to fifteen percent. It was far more reasonable to invest further in Living Arts since it was the closest to that threshold.

Holding his breath, Damian invested twenty more points, and only when the percentage reached fifteen did he unlock something new.

[Nine Veil Fox Martial Legacy Unlocked]

[Name: Nine Veil Fox Style]

[Type: Martial Legacy]

[Description: A deceptive martial art created by fox demons. It focuses on illusion, misdirection, flexible movement, and precise killing strikes.]

[Available Martial Techniques]

[Name: Silk Body]

[Type: Passive]

[Description: The body remains loose and flowing. Joints stay soft so the practitioner can twist, slip, and coil like a fox’s body. This allows sudden changes in direction and makes the fighter extremely difficult to grab.]

[Name: Phantom Feints]

[Type: Active]

[Description: Every attack begins as something else. A punch becomes a claw. A retreat becomes a trap. A stumble becomes a killing strike. The goal is to force the opponent to react incorrectly.]

[Name: Moon Step]

[Type: Active]

[Description: Footwork based on curved movement rather than straight lines. The practitioner constantly circles the opponent like a fox stalking its prey. They appear slow and playful, yet every step quietly places them in a superior killing position.]

Damian felt a wave of images burn into his mind. It was like hundreds of thousands of texts filled with detailed illustrations, each strangely alive as the images moved across the pages, repeating certain movements over and over again. In the background, faint and nearly transparent figures moved through the techniques, performing strange yet familiar strikes that seemed both unreal and beautiful at the same time.

’Wow...’

Damian was stunned. The sheer vastness of the information flooding his mind was staggering, yet the system layered everything piece by piece in such a way that even a ten-year-old could understand it.

After an unknown amount of time, Damian’s eyes slowly fluttered open with unusual calmness. Even his gaze carried a strange sharpness, and his seated posture had straightened into quiet perfection.

His presence, demeanor, and aura had undergone a complete transformation, though he himself remained unaware of it.

’Three techniques off the bat? That’s generous.’

He could not help but admit it.

Just by staring at the names alone, he did not even need to read the descriptions to understand them. The knowledge already existed in his mind as if he had practiced these techniques for years.

This time, Damian was genuinely pleased. Whenever people mentioned superpowers and martial arts in the same sentence, most dismissed the idea as ridiculous. Yet from everything he now understood, he could clearly see how these techniques could merge seamlessly with his fighting style.

If he had possessed this knowledge when he fought Bathin, he most likely would not have needed the power of the Abyss.

"Does that mean if I upgrade the Living Arts, I will unlock more techniques?" he asked.

[Yes.] the system responded.

Biting his lip, Damian stared at his remaining twenty-five talent points with a strange look in his eyes. The martial techniques had changed everything, and he felt an undeniable urge to learn more.

"You already gave up an extra twenty points. Calm down and stick to the plan," Damian scolded himself. Acting recklessly went directly against the teachings of the Nine Veil Fox Style.

With that thought, he abandoned the idea of adding another twenty points to his Living Arts and decided to save them until he accumulated enough to push his Primal Soul to fifteen percent.

Damian rose to his feet, preparing to leave the realm, when he noticed something strange. At the foot of the tree, several black and purple fox cubs were playing and chasing one another.

They ran in circles around the massive circular patch of land where the tree was rooted. Flowers had also begun sprouting here and there. But most importantly, the color of the tree itself had improved.

It felt as though life had returned to it.

"I think I said this before, but I can’t wait to see what the tree looks like when I reach ninety-nine percent," he said, shifting his attention to the stats of his Lust Talent Tree.
