My Level Zero System-Chapter 301: The Terrible Disparity
"Alright then, let him go this time." Mera pouted, but Kain shook his head and smiled gently.
"Even if he successfully runs away from us, he won't get out of the inner city."
Mera looked at Kain in surprise, then seemed to understand something.
"You mean... a high-class Magus will intervene?"
"Yes. I am now the representative of the Egretta Family, and I was assassinated right on their territory. If they don't even know how to restore the family's honor, there's no reason why the Egretta Family could exist until today," Kain explained.
A high-class Magus is the backbone of a noble family, and a threat to all those who intend to harm the family. If a high-class Magus appears to slay an assassin, protecting Kain, the representative, it is nothing less than a declaration that all assassins who approach will face a similar fate of suppression.
And just as Kain predicted, in the distance, even as they were talking, the assassin was still fleeing in panic.
Seeing no signs of pursuit, his constantly pounding heart eased somewhat. But suddenly, he felt a chilling aura engulf him.
The assassin grit his teeth; his movements couldn't help but slow down for a moment. Since he ascended to mid-class Magus, few things could make him feel like a deer being stared down by a carnivorous beast.
Even though Kain and Mera could completely defeat him, they were still on the same level. Defeat was not despair; didn't he manage to escape?
But now, the assassin felt despair. That despair was like poison, seeping into every corner of his heart, making his blood feel thick and his breathing heavy, even though no danger had physically arrived yet.
However, this lingering feeling did not last too long. The assassin felt his control over the surrounding earth and rock suddenly weaken significantly, as if his authority had been seized. Right before he could react, he and all the surrounding earth and rock were lifted into the air.
"Where are you running off to, little mouse?" a slightly aged voice rang out.
Standing in mid-air was a politely dressed man, with the Egretta Family crest on his chest, fully explaining his identity. Beside him was the giant mass of earth and rock where the assassin was imprisoned, and naturally, it was controlled by this man.
The assassin despairingly discovered that a high-class Magus had personally hunted him down, and even more despairingly, it was a high-class Magus of the same [Earth Magic] system.
Starting from mid-class Magus who are walking their own paths, their egos gradually begin to assert themselves in the role of imposing their will on the surrounding world with the magic they cast, albeit consuming a lot of energy and with short duration.
However, a high-class Magus can easily do this as naturally as eating and drinking. Their instincts, their egos, constantly impose and bend the surrounding world to their will. This is even more true when a high-class Magus actively intervenes.
That's why nearly all, if not all, mid-class Magus, even when exerting all their strength, wouldn't be able to touch the hem of a high-class Magus's clothes, even if the high-class Magus did nothing, because the passive imposition and bending of the world's rules is the best magical resistance shield.
And naturally, the application of this does not stop at defense or attack, but also extends to control.
For instance, right now.
As a not-weak mid-class Magus with [Earth Magic], controlling the surrounding earth and rock was as easy as turning his hand. But now, the earth and rock around him had become stubbornly unyielding, rendering his magic useless.
That was because everything had been forcibly suppressed by the similar [Earth Magic] high-class Magus, who had usurped the assassin's authority.
This meant the assassin had fallen from a mid-class Magus to the lowest tier of a low-class Magus, where even lifting a single rock was strenuous.
This was the near-desperate suppression between two distinct tiers.
Of course, this only applied to two Magus of different tiers but the same magic system. If he were facing Kain's [Thunder Magic], this high-class Magus couldn't play the game of imposing and stripping away magical authority.
And that was why the assassin was utterly desperate.
If it were a high-class Magus of a different system, he could at least resist one blow and die a little more gloriously, but being of the same system, he couldn't even move.
The assassin had no other choice but to grit his teeth and activate the poison pouch hidden in his mouth, deciding to die before being tortured into revealing secrets. Because he knew he wouldn't survive anyway.
The assassin's resolute act of suicide caused the high-class Magus to sigh. However, he still had to follow the procedure of presenting this corpse to maintain credibility before Kain. Otherwise, this genius would probably be dissatisfied.
After all, the Egretta Family was indeed at fault first.
After restoring the street to its original state, the high-class Magus carried the earth sphere containing the assassin's corpse and flew toward Kain and Mera.
Although [Earth Magic] does not have the [Fly] magic skill like [Air Magic], for a high-class Magus, manipulating the dust particles in the air and turning them into footrests to stand on air, keeping oneself suspended, propelling oneself through the air... was not much different from [Fly].
This was the transcendent elemental control capability of this tier of Magus.
...
After waiting only for a moment, Kain and Mera saw a figure flying towards them with a large mass of earth. Without any explanation, both understood that the assassin was inside.
"Allow me to escort you both back to the manor."
The high-class Magus said, then waved his hand, and both Mera and Kain were lifted into the air. Kain felt the distribution of support points beneath his feet, and a thought flashed through his mind.
"Using dust particles as a platform to fly? The magical application capability of a high-class Magus is indeed astonishing."
Mera could fly thanks to the magic skill [Fly], and Kain could also "fly" by generating explosive force from [Fire Burst] to propel himself upward. However, no method of air movement was as gentle as this high-class Magus's approach. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Standing before a high-class Magus felt like standing before an insurmountable great mountain.
