My Level Zero System-Chapter 300: Annihilation

The remaining assassin's magic system was fundamentally not an elemental one like [Earth Magic] or [Thunder Magic], but a more metaphysical one.

Such as [Spirit Magic] or [Life Magic]. While [Enhancement Magic] is also metaphysical, it requires other tangible elements to manifest its effects.

And regardless of whether it was [Life Magic] or [Spirit Magic], both possessed the ability to attack within a small range, namely [Life Deprive] and [Mind Disturbed]. That was why they had to get very close to Kain to make the remaining assassin's magic skill effective.

As for whether the remaining assassin's magic was [Life Magic] or [Spirit Magic], Kain had made an educated guess: [Spirit Magic].

After all, [Mind Disturbed] had a clear advantage in a quick, decisive battle. Just by getting close enough and activating it, the assassin could completely shut down Kain's mind temporarily, disabling his magic and turning him into a vulnerable target.

Meanwhile, while [Life Deprive] was deadly, the time required to completely drain the life from Kain was not short, as a Magus inherently possesses natural magical resistance. During that time, Kain could completely counter-assassinate since the assassin had approached too closely.

Naturally, the above two scenarios only hold true if he only possessed [Thunder Magic]. In reality, both Kain's [Spirit Magic] and [Life Magic] had already reached the mid-class. The additional resistance was stretched, so to speak, and he had specifically upgraded [Mind Protection] in his [Spirit Magic] to guard against a situation like this.

The protection of the earth tunnel allowed the remaining assassin to quickly get close to Kain's position.

This was a very risky move as it could be countered at any moment, which is why they had hesitated to execute it earlier. But now, they had no other choice.

"It'll be fine. I used [Seek] to pinpoint the position of that [Thunder Magic] guy. As long as my magic successfully activates, I can definitely turn the tide!" the assassin thought. From the Spiritual Phase perspective, he could feel a bright spot, symbolizing Kain's existence, approaching rapidly.

And then, the assassin leaped out of the ground.

[Mind Disturbed].

By changing his own spiritual wavelength, executing a focused wavelength rebound cycle to enhance the power of the spiritual wavelength aimed at the opponent. Upon receiving this attack, the opponent's spiritual wavelength would fluctuate violently, directly affecting their consciousness. It was a very deadly move in a quick attack or ambush.

The corner of the assassin's mouth curled into a confident smile, having successfully used this move countless times. He was just waiting for the moment Kain lost consciousness, then the dagger in his hand and his magic would quickly kill Kain.

But immediately after, he froze.

His [Mind Disturbed] did successfully activate on Kain's spiritual wavelength, but the result was beyond his expectation.

Faced with the spiritual attack that rushed forward like a torrenting river, Kain's spiritual wavelength was as steadfast as a rock in a rushing current. Even if the water splashed everywhere, it couldn't destroy the rock.

[Mind Protection].

Applying the same principle of spiritual wavelength feedback as [Mind Disturbed], but [Mind Protection] involves self-feedback of the caster's spiritual wavelength to strengthen it, thereby resisting external changes.

"So that's what it feels like when the spiritual wavelength is attacked?"

Kain felt his five senses, especially his vision, shaking and about to go wild. Although he had activated [Mind Protection], his [Mind Protection] had only just been upgraded to stage 1. It was only with the addition of his inherently strong spiritual wavelength that he could resist the assassin's [Mind Disturbed].

Even so, Kain was slightly affected. It was only strange that even though his spiritual wavelength was oscillating, his stream of thought remained perfectly clear.

As for the assassin, his confident face turned pale, filled with panic mixed with fear. How could he not realize that the person facing him was also a Magus possessing [Spirit Magic], and furthermore, the level of his [Spirit Magic] was suddenly also mid-class?

Mid-class [Thunder Magic] and mid-class [Spirit Magic].

Glancing at Kain's young face, the assassin felt utterly devastated. What kind of monster was this?

Then, he felt a sudden chill on his neck, and his breath suddenly became dry.

His hand trembled as he raised it, trying to grasp his neck, but it was already too late.

He saw that, without him knowing when, a blood-stained dagger had popped out from Kain's arm. It was this very dagger that had slashed across the assassin's throat. This was a dagger forged from a Nightcrawler's claw, and its sharpness was undeniable, to the point that after the cut, no blood seemed to flow from the wound.

The assassin died without even managing a cry.

Having dealt with his opponent, Kain looked towards the other side.

There, Mera was still fiercely fighting the assassin with [Earth Magic]. But the advantage was clearly leaning towards Mera.

This one had been distracted earlier, creating the tunnel to push the [Spirit Magic] assassin to ambush Kain, which allowed Mera to attack even more fiercely. Now, seeing his companion dead, the assassin knew that continuing to fight would be pointless, so he decided to turn and flee.

Immediately, the assassin flung up the entire road, turning it into a chaotic mess, forming layers of earth for defense against the relentless attacks from both Kain and Mera. Meanwhile, he quickly dug into the earth and fled downward, opening a tunnel to escape.

"No need to waste any more energy, Mera. It will be difficult for us to stop him."

Kain approached and placed a hand on Mera's shoulder. She also stopped, withdrawing her magic.

Mera was naturally not too pleased about failing to completely eliminate her opponent.

But she also had to admit that mid-class [Earth Magic] was genuinely difficult to deal with. Although her [Air Magic] attack power was completely superior, the defensive capability and flexibility of [Earth Magic] made it impossible for Mera to take down her opponent.

And speaking of defense, although it looked like the assassin was only utilizing material from the road, all of it had been reinforced in density by magic, allowing it to resist the attacks from Kain and Mera. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Coupled with flexible movement and escape thanks to his tunneling and burrowing technique like a mole, it could be said that among mid-class magic, [Earth Magic] had even greater survival potential than [Water Magic].

This was not a magic tournament where the arena was fixed and both sides were forced to decide a winner. If he couldn't win, he could absolutely run away.
