Chapter 74: The Strongest Shaman Of The Borderlands

"Great Chieftain, this is my Great Uncle, Lord Gundar of the Grimhowl Tribe," Ulric said with a smile. "The Grimhowl Tribe is the second strongest among the high-ranking tribes. My Uncle here is their chieftain’s right-hand man!"

"I see!" Leone nodded. "Greetings, Lord Gundar. The moment I saw you, I felt like a great personage has come to bless our humble settlement.

"Even the very air seemed to grow heavier when you arrived, as if the world itself was making way for your presence. I bet that if you’re at least twenty... no ten years younger, you’d be more handsome than me.

"Since Ulric is already calling you, Great Uncle. It would be my honor calling you Great Uncle as well! I hope we get along well, Great Uncle!"

Leone extended his hand for a handshake, acting like a very respectful young man. It was so subservient that Daedalus wanted to hide in shame.

He advised its Master to not offend the old man. But it didn’t expect Leone would start calling him Great Uncle instead!

Ulric’s smile stiffened after hearing his Great Chieftain’s words. A part of him wanted to ask Leone if he was pranking his Great Uncle or if he was really being serious. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Suddenly, Gundar started laughing out loud. It was a hearty laugh that made the giant hawk look at its Master in disbelief.

It had been many years since it last saw its Master laugh so heartily. It even wondered if it was about to kill the young man, who was wearing a lion mask to cover his face.

"Young man, well met," Gundar said after he finished laughing. He also reached out to hold Leone’s hand and shook it well. "Not anyone can call me Great Uncle. But if you impress me enough during my stay here, I might allow you that honor."

Seeing that the old man seemed sincere in his words, Leone was finally able to relax. He thought that Gundar would try to intimidate him. Like squeezing his hand in order to assert dominance.

But although the old man’s hands were rough, it had gentleness that put the young man’s heart at ease.

"Lord Gundar, welcome to Aslan Soleil," Leone said proudly. "Please, come with me to our main camp on top of that cliff. We can discuss the reason for your visit there."

"Might as well." Gundar nodded before shifting his gaze to his giant hawk. "Soren, you can hunt now. Thank you for taking me here. I’ll call you if I need your assistance, so stay close to the mountain."

The giant hawk screeched to acknowledge its Master’s order. It then flapped its mighty wings and took off to the sky, ready to hunt for something to eat for lunch.

"Fury, come here," Ulric ordered. "Take Great Uncle up the mountain."

The Dire Bear was currently playing with the kids, with a few of them riding on its back. But after hearing Ulric’s command, it gently lowered its body, allowing the kids to get off its back safely.

Once all the kids were safe on the ground, the Dire Bear walked up to Gundar and lowered its body to help the old man ride its back.

Gundar smiled faintly after seeing this scene and deftly sat himself on the bear’s saddle.

Ulric then called his Blood-Crest Raptor so he could ride it together with Leone.

The three then hiked up the mountain, leaving everyone behind.

When they could no longer be seen, Kael breathed a sigh of relief. The moment his gaze landed on Gundar, he almost forgot how to breathe.

"That old man is still as formidable as ever," Kael muttered as he wiped the beads of sweat that formed on his forehead. "I hope he’s not here to cause us trouble."

Back then, the Chieftain of the Riverfang Tribe didn’t know how strong Gundar was. He had only seen him a handful of times during important tribal meetings.

This was the first time he managed to truly gauge the strength of the person rumored to be the strongest shaman in the Borderlands.

Only after becoming Leone’s vassal and acquiring great strength did his senses become sharp enough to notice the disparity between them.

Kael’s hands were still shaking from the pressure he felt. The old man’s aura was unreal.

He was like an insignificant human standing before a towering mountain that could easily crush him according to will.

’What is an important person like him doing here?’ Kael couldn’t help but worry as he looked at the cliff in the mountain. ’Did he come to personally take our tribute? I thought only the middle-ranking tribes need them?’

The chieftain of the Riverfang Tribe had so many questions, but no answers came. All he knew was that Gundar was someone that they couldn’t hope to offend.

Not because the old man was strong, but because he was the right-hand man of the chieftain of the Grimhowl Tribe.

It was the second strongest tribe in the entirety of the Borderlands. Not even the first in the tribe rankings, the War Claw Tribe, dared to antagonize them.

Little did he know that the high-ranking tribes didn’t dare to make a move on the Grimhowl Tribe for one reason. Because Gundar was there.

He was so strong that all these years, he had served as the protective amulet of the Grimhowl Tribe, allowing them to grow unhindered by their neighbors.

This was why his chieftain, Hagen, took Gundar’s matters seriously.

He knew that if the old man really kicked the bucket, their neighbors would finally be at ease. And they would be doomed. Without the greatest threat stopping them from messing with the Grimhowl Tribe, they could finally move.

The high-ranking tribes were always eyeing each other, looking for opportunities to get the upper hand.

This was especially true for the War Claw Tribe, which prided itself as the strongest tribe.

But as long as Gundar existed, they couldn’t start their plan to unite all the tribes under their banner.
