Chapter 91: The Fell

An hour and a half had passed since Hal began following the expedition device’s signal, carefully making his way forward.

Soon, one of the blue dots finally began to slowly move closer, making Hal smile slightly.

It wouldn’t be long before they reunited.

A few minutes later, he arrived at an area of dense shrubbery, his smile widening as the device led him to one of the thickets where Liora and Loki were hiding.

But before he could approach, the thicket rustled, and a dog-sized wolf cub came rushing out with an urgent look on its face, placing a pebble down in front of him.

Loki then began pulling him in a certain direction.

Hal was initially confused, but then things clicked in his mind, and his heart sank.

"Liora!"

The next moment, the pup began sprinting in a direction, with Hal quickly following behind.

Their speed inevitably slowed as Loki began sniffing the ground, following Liora’s scent to track her.

They also had to avoid combat as much as possible, so there were times they had to stop and hide.

At the very least, the journey was smooth, but Hal wasn’t happy.

In fact, he was frowning more with each step toward this specific direction.

Wouldn’t they run into the orc camp like this?

It was then that the realization of a grim possibility made his heart sink even further.

’D-Damn it... was she captured by the orcs?’ he cursed inwardly, immediately beginning to think of a solution.

They arrived at the camp before he could do so, forcing him to momentarily set aside his thoughts to look for Liora.

Since Loki had stopped sniffing at this spot, his eyes fixed on the camp, Hal was now certain.

’Should I use [Shadow Walk] and infiltrate the area?’ he pondered, not realizing he was biting his thumb in worry and frustration.

Based on the pup’s reactions, she was still alive, but Hal feared he wouldn’t be able to handle what he might see, even if he found her.

Orcs were notorious for using humans for entertainment and the procreation of forbidden half-breeds, after all...

Furthermore, who could say he wouldn’t be detected even while invisible?

The memory of that damned Orc Shaman’s creepy smile still sent chills down his spine to this day.

Hal decided to use the sparrow and survey the area with a bird’s eye view first before acting when suddenly, a purple-skinned humanoid with horns—a female, exited one of the tents, disappearing behind another.

His heart immediately began racing.

He had seen that skin color and those horns before, back when he destroyed the portal activated by the Mischievous Housesprites.

The mere aura of that creature made him tremble and rooted his feet to the ground.

Had that thing not decided to turn back at the last moment, Hal was sure he would’ve perished.

He was, of course, far stronger now than he was back then, but he still wasn’t confident in defeating these unknown, purple-skinned humanoids.

’But why is she in the orc camp?’ he thought inwardly.

In the end, Hal decided to go through with his plan to scout the area through the sparrow’s eyes, convincing himself with the same old reasoning: better the sparrow than himself.

He slowly willed the tiny summon to rise higher and higher into the sky, moving cautiously so it wouldn’t be killed by the flying beasts.

Soon, Hal saw the massive camp in its entirety, his frown deepening with each passing second.

There were too many orcs, at least a hundred and fifty!

However, he couldn’t make Liora invisible.

Speaking of his comrade, he soon spotted her, his heart skipping a beat before calming as he saw her sitting inside a crude metal cage, hugging her knees with a bleak expression.

She didn’t fancy her chances of escaping, for sure...

Heck, even Hal didn’t know how he would save her, so in the meantime, he observed the orcs.

His brows rose as he realized they, too, were seemingly preparing for war.

He also saw the purple-skinned humanoid ordering the orcs around.

It seemed she was the one with ambition.

’Why are these camps trying to wipe each other out?’

Hal didn’t know, but perhaps this would give him the chance he needed.

Liora seemed okay for now, as the orcs were gearing up for war and temporarily ignoring her, and he would be sticking around to check on her from time to time while waiting for a chance anyway, so there was no need to rush.

Of course, he would save Liora at the first sign of trouble.

Hal already knew what to do should the situation happen faster than he hoped.

Watching for a few more seconds, he dismissed the sparrow.

It was unfortunate that he wouldn’t be able to scavenge for cores during the Hobgoblin-Unknown Brute war with Liora.

But what could he do?

He couldn’t allow his comrade to die without even trying to save her.

’First, I have to let her know I’m here...’

And Hal was willing to use a charge of the [Uncommon]-tier [Shadow Walk] for that.

After telling Loki to behave and wait for his return, Hal faded into the shadows and began making his way to Liora’s cage.

His movement speed was drastically reduced while invisible, but it was still better than [Dark Ward], since he could at least move.

Hoping to give her a morale boost, Hal slowly inched his way toward his despairing comrade, carefully avoiding the orcs, as he could still collide with them and possibly expose his location.

Fortunately, there didn’t seem to be an Orc Shaman in this tribe, or perhaps the one he had seen belonged to this group but had perished in the battle against the Stormshade.

Hal was glad either way.

He got closer and closer to Liora as the minutes passed and was just about close enough to whisper into her ear when, suddenly, the tent covers flapped open and another horned, purple-skinned humanoid emerged.

Hal froze as Khan turned with a slight grin on his face.

"Hoh?"
