My Fiancé's Scandals Never End, So I Married His Uncle Instead-Chapter 29: Fireworks and Moonlight
Celia Sterling didn’t dare look at the "Princess Circle" group chat for a whole week.
But in the end, she was cornered at her company’s main entrance by Quinn Sinclair, the representative sent by the Princess Circle.
"The security here is so strict. I’ve tried to get in several times, but they never let me." Quinn Sinclair grabbed her arm. "I finally managed to catch you. I don’t care, you have to give me at least two hours. Let’s get coffee."
"It’s the core R&D department for the group’s products. It has to be strict. Too many rivals want to mess with the Sterlings." Celia Sterling sighed helplessly as she walked with her toward a nearby coffee shop. "Next time you want to find me, just go to the Sterling estate. It’s not like you don’t know the way."
"After I was the one who egged you on to go to the club..." Quinn Sinclair’s voice turned timid. "I’m afraid I’ll run into your brother and he’ll hold me accountable."
Celia Sterling, still shaken from the scolding Kian Sterling had given her, said, "My brother is a little scary when he’s angry, I’ll admit."
"Growing up, I’ve never seen any brother as protective as he is with you," Quinn Sinclair couldn’t help but say. "He was like that when we were kids, and he’s even more so now. You’re twenty-two, but he’s still so strict and keeps you on such a tight leash."
Celia Sterling’s eyes dimmed a little. "We’ve only had each other, so naturally, our bond is closer than that of other siblings."
She hadn’t seen her father in over a decade, only occasionally hearing from Kian Sterling and his assistant Evan Rhodes’ private chats that the man had married several times abroad and had a flock of children. And while her mother was still in Metropia, she only saw her once or twice a year. Their meetings were always lukewarm. Her mother would exchange fewer than ten sentences with her before her thoughts would turn to the younger daughter from her remarriage, and she’d politely say goodbye.
There was only Kian Sterling.
The strictness of a father, the tenderness of a mother, and the indulgence of an older brother—he had given her all of it. Outsiders only saw Kian Sterling’s tyranny and dominance, but only she knew that he truly saw her as his own life. The sense of salvation and dependence, forged in a broken home, was ingrained in their very bones.
The coffee shop was nearly empty. The two went to a quiet private booth and ordered coffee and dessert.
Quinn Sinclair sighed, her thoughts still on Kian Sterling. "Back then, my second brother, like all the other rich kids in our circle, really wanted to marry you. But I heard your brother dealt with him so brutally that he never brought up proposing to you again."
Celia Sterling had no idea about this piece of gossip. "How brutal was it? Tell me everything."
Quinn Sinclair cleared her throat a few times. "I don’t know how Kian Sterling did it, but he managed to dig up his dozen or so ex-girlfriends and the five current girlfriends he was secretly dating. The five current ones didn’t know about each other, and three of them were from prominent wealthy families. The whole thing blew up, and my grandfather made my brother kneel in the ancestral hall for three whole days."
"Your second brother seems like such a decent guy. I can’t believe he’s such a player behind the scenes..."
"If it weren’t for that whole ’player’ scandal getting exposed, I would’ve never known he was such a scumbag. He usually acts so innocent." Quinn Sinclair stirred her coffee, shaking her head resentfully.
Celia Sterling knew that Kian Sterling was always extremely cautious when it came to matters concerning her. He was especially nitpicky to an almost absurd degree when it came to choosing a brother-in-law. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have specifically asked Declan Norwood back then if he was still a virgin.
She glanced at the time. "Did you track me down today just to gossip about your brother?"
"That just came up." Quinn Sinclair sat up straight, her eyes fixed on her. "My main goal is to find out what happened next with you and Silas Norwood."
Celia Sterling: "...Did those crazy women send you to ask?"
"I’m curious myself." Quinn Sinclair let out a soft hiss. "You have no idea. That moment when you bit the button off Silas Norwood’s shirt... it left everyone completely stunned..."
Celia Sterling cut her off. "What button-biting? Don’t be ridiculous. I was drunk, I don’t remember a thing."
"How could you forget something like that?" Quinn Sinclair was incredulous. "He’s the white moonlight of the entire Capital Circle! If he even gave me a proper look with those incredibly bewitching eyes of his, I’d remember it for the rest of my life, let alone biting off his button."
"I really don’t remember." Celia Sterling didn’t want such a private matter to become the talk of their circle, so she resolutely played dumb. "I don’t even remember how I got home. All I know is that I woke up in my brother’s car."
"He did say at the time that your brother had asked him to be there." Quinn Sinclair lowered her voice. "Why don’t you try to remember? People often recall things later, even after blacking out. Let me put it this way: after you succeeded, a few of the bolder girls who usually play wild are planning to change their pursuit tactics. As soon as he’s out of his bodyguards’ sight, they’re going to copy you and just go for it—get a taste first and ask questions later. But the only thing they’re not sure about now is how he reacted after you bit his button..."
"I really forgot," Celia Sterling said evasively. "But he was probably pretty angry. In the past week, my brother and he have had financial dealings involving over a billion, supposedly as some kind of compensation."
’It might be even more than that.’
Last night, Kian Sterling had brought home a large case of jewelry and antiques, saying they were trinkets from Silas Norwood. The cabinets were too full, so they ended up clearing out an entire display case in a study to put them away.
"The things Declan Norwood sent have been returned. These are from Silas Norwood to make it up to you. Their total value is at least three times what Declan sent," Kian Sterling had said leisurely. "I also bought you a bunch of stuff on the side. You can organize it yourself when you have time."
Celia Sterling looked at the inventory list for those "trinkets" Kian Sterling had so casually mentioned. Several of them were even more valuable than the "Star of the Blue Sea" that Declan Norwood had sent, which was worth 180 million Hong Kong Dollars.
Quinn Sinclair, however, had the nature of this compensation completely backward.
"A single bite, and it didn’t even touch his skin, just his clothes, costs that much in damages?" Quinn Sinclair winced just hearing about it. "Those other girls could never afford that. Your brother is seriously the best, willing to spend that much to clean up your mess."
Celia Sterling lowered her head and gave a soft hum of agreement.
"So, have you seen Silas Norwood again since then?" Quinn Sinclair was purely curious. "Don’t you also have that ’ethereal one’? They’re both from the Norwood family. In front of a ’white moonlight’ like Silas Norwood, is that ’mortal spark’ of yours instantly eclipsed?"
’See Silas Norwood? I have a date with him tonight.’
"I’ve been on a lot of dates with that ’mortal spark’ recently," Celia Sterling said, leaving her sentence hanging.
Quinn Sinclair filled in the blanks herself. "That makes sense. A ’flower on a high peak’ isn’t easy to reach. A ’mortal spark’ is nice too."
Celia Sterling hugged her coffee cup and didn’t continue the topic.
"About Declan Norwood..." Quinn Sinclair’s gossip network was extensive. "I heard he went to Solisia. But before he left, he pulled some stunt with your future sister-in-law, right? Forced her to move her studio to Oakhaven. Your brother is so protective of his own, how come he hasn’t done anything?"
Celia Sterling already had a clear understanding of Kian Sterling’s attitude regarding Summer Sutton. "Oakhaven is nice, too. The night view is even better than Metropia’s, and it’s close by."
Quinn Sinclair took a slurp of her coffee, disagreeing. "Oh, come on. With your brother’s personality, his indifference can only mean one thing: he doesn’t love her. Do you remember what he did when you went to Oakhaven to have some fun that one time?"
