Chapter 639

Anton did not waste any time and posted a note on his door stating that he would be meditating and should not be disturbed unless it was a matter of life and death. He did not want his portal to be discovered. He did not even know if the powerful semi-divine or divine wizards would be able to detect the portal that he planned to set up in his bathroom, but even if it was, so be it.

He knew that he would not be able to prevent the discovery of his town portal forever, but he would like to keep it secret for as long as he could.

Once he was sure that he would not be disturbed, Anton used his town portal scroll inside his bathroom, then went home to the Rose Manor. The moment he arrived, he cast the Blizzard spell, turned into Mana Rain towards the garden and the orchard to announce that he was back, and as expected, after a few minutes, Raymond knocked on his door bringing him dinner.

“Welcome back, Anton,” Raymond said while putting the food that he brought in the table that was placed near the balcony overlooking the garden.

“Thank you. Please expect that from now on, if I do return to the manor, it will always be at night. It seemed that my team’s fight against the undead army would be conducted during the day, unlike when I was in Mendoza.”

“How was the situation?” Raymond asked.

“The undead horde is now traveling from Mendoza to New Drennor, and the three armies from Ormunda, New Drennor, and Mendoza gathered in a village converted into a fortified camp along the road to New Drennor. Currently, I’m part of a team that attacks the undead while they are on the road. The undead horde is huge. Almost half of the combined army of the three kingdoms, and based on the intelligence that was shared with me, it wasn’t even the bulk of what the Undead Coalition could gather. It’s the same with our side. The bulk of the army from the three kingdoms is now gathering in New Drennor, and if needed, would travel to the fortified camp to meet the undead horde.”

“So you’re part of the teams that harass the undead while they are on the road. Isn’t that dangerous?”

“You don’t need to worry about me. I have powerful escape spells, so if I’m in any form of danger, I can escape immediately. Besides, according to my captain, the only enemy spellcasters that are on the undead horde right now are just up to the Invincible Rank casters. If a semi-divine or divine rank wizard's enemy appeared, the ones on our side will appear as well.”

“Why don’t those powerful beings settle the enemy immediately?” Raymond asked, and Anton just shrugged, since he didn't see why the leaders of the enemy kingdoms didn’t fight it out among themselves.

More than likely, it was not that simple, and there were some circumstances that an outsider like Anton was not aware of. The only thing he could do was continue fighting against the undead and increase his power at the same time, so that the moment that it was time for powerful wizards to be needed, he would be among them.

After dinner, since he would just be leveling up his ladder Necromancer and resting after that, he decided to return to the village that was now converted into a fortified camp. Once he entered his portal, Anton dismissed it, went to his bed, and entered his Diablo II system.

The ladder Necromancer was the second character on the last set of seven for the current ladder. Once he reached the maximum level for the remaining characters, he would focus on gathering charms before the new season ladder.

After five hours of leveling up, his ladder Necromancer reached 50. At first, he was tempted to return to leveling up his character using the virtual mode since it was important for him to make sure that his body would remain familiar in casting his spells against the enemy, but he decided that for the last set, he would just continue doing the onscreen option since he was in a precarious situation and could be called on anytime. It would be easier for him if his attention were not wholly inside the world of Diablo II.

During the next day, Anton joined his team and, without further ado, they all went to where the undead horde was. Just like the day before, Anton and the rest of the people who were assigned to harass the undead army started casting their spells and skills towards the enemy, but after a couple of hours, two semi-divine liches appeared, causing several wizards to be destroyed.

Thankfully, Anton noticed the powerful fluctuations of the spells that were being cast by the powerful semi-divine liches and hurriedly teleported back out of the way. He kept teleporting until he was far away from the undead horde.

Anton then saw three streaks of light coming from their camp and knew that the semi-divine wizards from their sides appeared. That meant for the next few minutes, the battle would be between the powerful beings from both sides.

When Anton felt that he was far enough away not to be affected by the battle but could still see it, he stopped and tried to observe. Unfortunately, without the assistance of the long-range array, he could not see the details, and he was wary of going near since he knew that he would be affected by the spells of the powerful semi-divine beings.

Soon, he was joined by the rest of the people who formed the teams that were supposed to harass the undead horde. He was dismayed to see that there were a lot of missing people.

“I don’t know the number exactly, but on a quick count, we lost 25 to 30 people in just our team alone,” Captain Nando whispered to Anton. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

After several minutes, Captain Nando told the team that he received a message that they could now return to the camp and leave the semi-divine beings to their battle, so without any further delay, they all flew back to the camp.

It was still early when they arrived at the camp. They all gathered in some kind of plaza to hear the announcement from the higher-ups. After a few minutes, an Invincible Wizard flew and cast some sort of spell that allowed his voice to be heard by everyone.

“When the semi-divine liches appeared, we lost 30 percent of the offense teams. We have decided not to attack the undead horde on the road anymore and will await them here at the camp. We will continue fortifying this camp, and when the undead arrive, we will do our best to destroy them and take the initiative to go to Mendoza to take it back from the Undead Coalition,” The wizard said.

When the wizard was done with his announcement, there were no cheers or anything, and the wizard simply flew down. The people in the plaza dispersed. Captain Nando called the rest of his team to meet in one of the conference rooms in the building where their team was assigned.

Anton was still a little impressed by how fast the building structures were formed by the wizards from the three kingdoms, but he was dismayed when he learned that in their team alone, 32 people died. Because of that, Anton could state that the harassment tactics were a failure. Not only did they not cause any great damage to the undead horde, but a lot of powerful wizards that would have been able to help in the defense of the camp and ultimately the defense of New Drennor perished.
