My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 51: Unhealed Wounds
"Why did she ask you to paint her?" She asked.
Caden clicked his tongue. "Do you believe this nonsense?"
Alira stared at Caden. "I don’t think Elijah is lying. And besides, look at the portraits, Caden. You saw Mireya in your dreams. That’s the reason you were able to describe her when you asked someone to paint her. I know she looked exactly like Elijah’s paintings."
Caden took a deep breath. "So, what did my sister ask you to do?"
Elijah tilted his head up and stared into Caden’s eyes.
"She asked me to paint her when she’s sad, when she’s smiling, and every reaction her face makes. She wanted you to at least see her even in just a portrait." Elijah explained.
She saw Caden slightly bite his lip. Then turned his back away from Elijah. He looked around the room, staring at his sister’s portrait.
"Mireya is worried about you. She will always tell me that she’s here to protect you." Elijah continued.
Caden raised his hand and touched one of the paintings. "Is she here right now?"
Elijah nodded. "Yes."
Her heart pounded. Everyone looked shocked and was turning their gaze around the room, searching for the dead girl.
"She wouldn’t harm anyone. And I’m the only one who could see her." Elijah commented.
"Where is she?" Elisa asked.
Elijah pointed his finger at his bed. "She’s sitting on my bed."
’Hey! I told you not to tell anyone about me.’ Mireya pouted.
"And do you expect me to hide you forever?" Elijah yelled which startled everyone in the room.
Caden walked slowly toward the bed and sat on it. He brushed his palm on the bed as if she could feel her sister. Then he stood up and stepped out of Elijah’s bedroom.
A deafening silence filled the room. The pain which was supposed to be forgotten had resurfaced and once again unhealed wounds started to bleed.
She stood by the door of Caden’s bedroom for almost half an hour. She would pace back and forth, hesitating to come inside and check on him.
"You should go. He needs you." It was Caroline. "I heard what happened."
"Maybe you should talk to him." She suggested.
Caroline shook her head. "And what would I tell him? That I’m here and Mireya’s dead? I don’t even know what happened that day. I don’t know how deep their scars are when they lost her, so I don’t think I’m not the right person to comfort him."
She slightly smiled. Every word of Caroline felt like daggers. She knew Caden’s other sister was also in pain. Without hesitation, she pulled Caroline into a tight embrace.
"Your brother loves you. He just doesn’t know how to express it properly. But he would die protecting you, Caroline." She said softly.
She didn’t let Caroline speak and just quickly went inside Caden’s room, leaving Caroline with a surprised face.
As she stepped inside, darkness and coldness consumed the entire bedroom. Not a single moonlight could enter because of the closed windows covered with blackout curtains.
She saw Caden sitting on the couch with a glass of wine in his right hand. His aura was like the darkness in the room.
"Caden." She whispered and quickly walked toward him.
She didn’t think twice to give him an embrace. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his head toward her.
"You can cry, my love. It would be our secret." She said.
Then she felt his shoulders shaking and she knew he was crying. She wanted to cry with him but she didn’t let herself to get swayed by her emotions. Caden needed her so she had to be strong for him.
She let him cry in her arms. It took almost an hour before he stopped crying.
"I’m sorry." It was the first thing he said after calming down.
"Hey, you don’t need to apologize." She said.
Caden tapped his lap, asking her to sit. So she did. He put the wine glass on the side table so he could wrap his arms around her waist.
"After twelve years, I still couldn’t forget what happened. I dreamed of her even after months of the attack. She was always crying and begging me to save her. I hated myself for being so powerless."
She leaned her head on his chest as she listened to him.
"We were six years old, Caden. You were able to save me, remember? Do you also regret that?" She mumbled.
"Of course not!"
"Then why don’t you focus on the people who are with you right now? Me. And Caroline. Seeing you so messed up because of Mireya, Caroline looks so lonely. It pained her because she couldn’t comfort you."
Caden didn’t answer. She tilted her head up and stared at him. She saw a tear from his eyes and wiped it with her finger.
"Don’t be ashamed to cry when you want to. Showing your tears because of your sister is not a weakness. You’re strong Caden. Ever since we were kids and that was one of the reasons I fell for you." She smiled.
He nodded and planted a small kiss on her forehead.
"I’m glad we’re finally together. My heart is at peace when I’m with you." He whispered.
She felt a sudden urge to touch him. She knew it wasn’t the right time, but she couldn’t help it. Her hands moved on their own. She slipped her right hand inside Caden’s shirt and ran it to his stomach. Her left hand was busy playing with his hair.
"You’re playing with fire, princess." Caden said in a hoarse voice.
She gave him a seductive smile and bit her lower lip.
"You need to let out some steam and I’m willing to take it all."
Caden smirked. "Would you like it slow or rough?"
"Hmm." She moaned.
His hand had started to get busy, brushing it slowly to her legs. She voluntarily opened her legs when he rubbed his thumb against her clit.
