My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 110: Lucas’ Nightmare
Lucas’ expression changed. He knew exactly what was on Caden’s mind.
"If you break Alira’s heart, you’re dead!"
Caden didn’t answer, making Lucas mad.
"Explain yourself, Caden!" Skyler exclaimed before Lucas could react.
Caden sighed. "I need to use her for Alira’s sake. I can be the bad guy if it’s an assurance of her safety."
"You’re crazy! You should talk to Alira first."
"And tell her what? That Benjamin was murdered and I am the prime suspect?"
"You’re just a person of interest."
"It doesn’t matter. For me, it’s the same. Alira is not well. I can’t tell her about Benjamin yet." Caden muffled.
Lucas clicked his tongue. "We can’t hide it from her forever. She will immediately know about it when she wakes up. It’s all over the news and the internet."
Caden turned to Skyler. "Can you do something about it?"
"You know the answer to that, but the question is if I’m willing to do it." Skyler answered, surprising everyone.
Caden frowned. "What do you want?"
Skyler chuckled. "Your cousin. Elisa."
Elijah’s eyes widened. "Hey! I’m her brother!"
"I know. But he’s the future king."
"What about Elisa? You like her?" Caden asked, observing Skyler’s reaction.
Skyler nodded. "Yes."
"So, what exactly do you want?" Caden asked again.
"I want you to arrange our engagement."
"You want to marry her?" Elijah exclaimed.
"Yes, Elijah! I really like your sister enough to marry her."
Elijah’s lips crooked. "I’m just surprised. My sister is not the marrying type. I don’t picture her being with a man and in love. I think it’s not normal and gross."
Skyler glared at Elijah. "Gross? And being in love with a ghost is normal to you?" He glances at Caden. "No offense."
"Asshole." Elijah murmured.
"That’s enough." Caden sighed. "I’m not against with your request. I think the King will approve it, but how about Elisa? Did you tell her about your feelings?"
Skyler nodded. "Yes."
"I see. Then I’ll talk to Uncle Kyle about it, but it’s best if you approach him first. I’ll make an appointment for you."
"Thank you, Caden. And in exchange, I will delete everything about the murder of Benjamin Miller and anything related to him or the Trekker Clan. But it’s only temporary. You have to make Investigator Keisha agree with everything in ten days."
"You can’t delete it permanently?" Elijah asked.
Skyler shook his head. "It can be done if it was posted within twenty-four hours. But it has been in the news for days so it’s impossible to delete it."
"Are you not confident with your charm?" Stephen teased.
Caden glared at him. "Ten days is more than enough."
The twins and Elijah left to sleep in their rooms while Lucas stayed to have a proper talk with Caden.
"You know that I love your sister since we were kids. And I will never betray her. Can you keep this a secret for now? We can’t tell her what happened and you know that."
Lucas took a deep sigh. "I just wish there was another way. And you haven’t completely told me of your plan?"
Caden took a sip of wine. "I need information about the Trekker Clan. Benjamin is dead, but his clan still lives. I need to erase them all."
Lucas suddenly felt darkness around Caden. "You will kill everyone? What if there are kids?"
"I have to. Their kids will take revenge on our kids. It’s an endless cycle. I have to end it."
"B-But then you will be a murderer in the eyes of many."
"I don’t care. As long as you and Alira will not look at me differently."
Lucas sighed deeply. "You are my best friend and I know you are doing this for everyone. But you are an idiot."
Caden chuckled. "Well, the things you do for love." He laughed. "Can you promise me something?"
Lucas frowned. "It depends."
"The war will begin soon. It will not happen here."
"In Flousia? What made you so sure about it?"
Caden sighed and stared at Lucas. "Uncle Kyle asked me to take the throne. Skyler gave me ten days. But I only have five days to get the information from Investigator Lee. I have to go back to Flousia next week."
Lucas was surprised. "Why? What happened to Uncle Kyle? And do you think you’re ready? How about Alira?"
"I need to take her with me. The royal council is pressuring the King to choose another crown princess. They never met Alira so they had no idea about her background. As for my ascension, Uncle Kyle and Aunt Emily wanted to retire."
Lucas laughed. "And you believe them?"
Caden shook his head. "Of course not. Our parents are watching. I know you noticed it. They want to see the length of our capabilities."
"Yeah, I know."
"Will you come to Flousia? I’m planning on asking everyone."
"But it’s dangerous. I think it would be best if the others will stay here."
"As I said, the war will happen in Flousia. Do you think they will spare the others and leave them here? If I will not take them, they will." Caden explained.
"Benjamin’s war started with your grandparents and it will—"
"It will end with mine. With us. I’m sure he planned his death. He wanted to see of what I would become after knowing the truth. He wanted me to become him. He wanted to repeat everything that happened twelve years ago. That would be his revenge."
"Are you afraid that you will become him?" Lucas asked.
Caden smiled. "I have become him. I’m afraid of becoming worse than him."
"Do you want me to take Alira when it happens?"
Caden nodded. "Promise me to take her far away from me. I don’t want her to see the darkest side of me. Torturing and killing people is part of being in the Mafia Clan. It’s already part of me."
Lucas let out a deep breath. "I will not promise anything. It depends on Alira. Let her decide, Caden. It’s her life, her future and not mine."
"Then at least promise me to take her somewhere safe when everything went downhill. If they take you, they will torture you."
Lucas gritted his teeth.
"How does it feel to be tortured?"
"Why did you ask?"
"I want to know to prepare myself."
"It will never happen to you. I promise to protect everyone. To keep you safe."
"Caden, you know it could happen. You can’t keep us from getting hurt."
"You want to know? It hurts so much that you want it to end, that you want to die. But dying is never an option. They will keep you alive and make sure that you will feel the pain up to the smallest part of your body."
"Are you still scared of being caught?"
Caden grinned. "I already experience hell. I am more afraid of losing the people I care about than getting tortured."
Lucas went back to his room after talking to Caden. He felt his head ached from the things Caden told him.
When he walked inside his bedroom, he saw Brie sleeping quietly on the bed. He sat beside her, brushing away the scattered strands of her hair to see her face.
She quickly woke up when she felt Lucas’ warm hands. She immediately noticed that something was off.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
He slightly smiled and then shook his head. Brie sat with a worried face, not looking away from Lucas.
"What is it? What’s bothering you?"
"I never told anyone about what happened to me twelve years ago. It’s because no one asked. No one cared."
"But I want to know. I always wanted to ask you. I want to know what you felt that day, but I was scared to ask because of my mother."
Lucas smiled. "Then will you listen to my story?"
Brie nodded. "Yes!"
"It was so magical seeing a newly crowned King and Queen. I was a kid so it was such an amazing experience. But that magical moment quicky turned into a nightmare."
Brie noticed Lucas’ hands were shaking. She held his cold hands and kissed them. He was just staring at her smiling but caring face.
"Don’t be afraid. It’s all in the past. I’m here now and I’m here to listen." She said.
Lucas nodded and then took a deep breath to continue.
"Alejandro Rossi approached the King. He didn’t actually asked him to give up the throne. He asked Aunt Peggy’s hand in marriage. I was young so I couldn’t understand what was happening. The next thing I knew both sides were fighting. I saw a man got stabbed. His blood flowed and I could smell it. I turned around to look for my parents and Alira. My mother looked at me with her unconcerned eyes so I tried to check my sister, but she was gone."
He paused. That day, he was scared, but what feared him the most was the look in his mother’s eyes.
