Chapter 317: The Demon King’s New approach

Back where Adam had just been a few moments ago, Samael found himself standing alone in empty sky with nothing but ocean spread out below him

"Damn you!" Samael said in a voice that sounded furious.

This had been happening for several minutes now, over and over again.

Every single time Samael tracked down Adam’s location, the All-Father would simply vanish again.

Samael clenched both fists in annoyance, but quickly forced himself to take a steadying breath and think rationally instead of letting anger overtake his judgment.

Then, realization began to dawn on him.

All this time, ever since the demons had been unleashed upon the world, the dragons hadn’t shown themselves once.

Not a single one.

That was more than unusual, It was deliberate.

Samael’s eyes narrowed as he processed this information further.

And then there was another uncomfortable truth he’d been avoiding until now; most of his demon lords were already dead.

Even now, he could sense Morrigan’s own life force fading, likely meeting her end at the hands of another Archon.

The fallen angel sighed.

Adam had been running this entire time, never once attempting to actually fight back or engage him directly.

The answer was obvious now that Samael took a moment to consider it properly.

Adam wasn’t trying to fight him at all.

He was stalling.

Buying time for something else. Something the dragons were planning while he remained distracted chasing after the All-Father like some fool.

Samael clicked his tongue in annoyance as a good scope of their plan became clear to him.

They’d used Adam as bait, knowing full well that Samael would prioritize hunting down the god with the largest concentration of transcendence fragments.

And while he’d been wasting time chasing shadows across the planet, the dragons had been doing what exactly?

Samael didn’t know yet, and that uncertainty gnawed at him more as well. But one thing was certain now. Continuing to chase Adam would only play further into their hands.

He needed a different approach.

Samael exhaled slowly and allowed himself as smile as a new plan formed in his mind.

"Adam isn’t the only one with a high amount of transcendence fragments," he muttered to himself.

The Archons also carried significant amounts within them. Perhaps not quite as much as Adam himself possessed individually, but still more than enough to be worth taking.

And unlike their father who could simply write himself away whenever danger approached, they couldn’t escape so easily.

Samael stretched his hand forward and a portal circled open before him with golden light tracing its edges.

Then he flew through.

———

Umgadi stood amidst a field of devastation, staring down with no expression on her face at what remained of her opponents.

Both Jynx, the demon lord of madness and Kaerys of Envy were fading away into black dust particles.

It had been a one-sided battle from start to finish.

But then, Umgadi felt it.

A presence so overwhelming it made every instinct in her body scream danger all at once.

Her eyes widened in shock as portal formed out of thin air with the Fallen angel floating through onto the battlefield, smiling deviously.

The Longinus floated beside him, and Umgadi’s heart sank immediately upon seeing him.

Samael raised both arms theatrically to both sides. With his grin widening further, he said in a mocking tone;

"Your father is making things difficult, but the rest of you? I’ll make quick work of."

Umgadi knew immediately there was no point in running. If Samael had already appeared before her like this, then fleeing would only delay the inevitable by seconds at most.

Her only chance was to fight.

She brought both hands up quickly as fingers beginning to form into a specific hand seal that would activate her most powerful technique.

Her own power of law

But she never got the chance to finish it.

The Longinus shot forward like a bolt of lightning as Samael hurled it towards the goddess.

The spear moved without the concept of distance to begin with, hitting with certainty at its target almost as instantly as it was thrown towards its target.

Her eyes went wide with shock as she looked down at herself.

At the gaping hole now punched clean through her chest where the Longinus had pierced straight through.

Blood gushed from the wound. She tried to speak, but only a choked gasp escaped her lips instead.

And then Samael was there.

He blitz toward her in an instant, and moved his hand forward to grip her neck tightly.

White aura began flowing out of Umgadi’s body, pouring from every part of her and flowing directly into Samael.

This was transcendence fragments that made up Umgadi’s divine essence, the very power that defined what she was as an Archon, all of it was being forcibly extracted by Samael’s grip.

Umgadi’s vision began to dim as strength left her body entirely. The constellation patterns on her body disappeared as her breathing stopped before light faded from her eyes.

Samael held onto her for just a moment longer, watching with satisfaction as the last traces of this white aura flowed into him, before finally releasing his grip and letting go.

Umgadi’s lifeless fell down to the ground. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"One down"

——

Adam floated in the sky above a dense forest, with his tome still open before him and his golden pen hovering just above the page.

Then his eyes widened suddenly. And a sharp pain pierced through his chest.

Umgadi, his daughter had just passed.

Adam’s hand trembled slightly, gripping his pen tighter as grief hit him.

But before he could even process that loss, another wave of pain struck him. Astia.

Another one of his children, gone.

Adam immediately realized this was Samael’s doing.

The fallen angel had grown tired of chasing him across the world and had changed tactics.

If he couldn’t catch Adam himself, then he would simply hunt down the next best targets instead.

The Archons.

And just right then, the All-father felt another loss. Celion.

Three of his children, gone in mere moments.

His hand moved immediately, across the tome’s page.

"The gods will always find themselves miles apart from Samael."

The words glowed faintly as they took effect, forcing reality to bend and accommodate what had been written.

Every god still alive across the world would now be automatically relocated far away from Samael’s position the moment he drew near.

It wouldn’t stop him, Adam knew that much. The fallen angel could still hunt them down one by one if given enough time.

But it would slow him down.

Adam stared down at the tome with hollow eyes.

"Come on, Black Dragon," he whispered in a desperate tone. "Any moment now."
